Switching from a controller to wheel!

As mentioned above, I had crashes a plenty, and 'weird' ones too.
Catching a slide is something to get used too though, while on controller this was 2nd nature

This and this. Probably the single biggest issue I had getting used to a wheel. With an analogue controller a momentary flick of the thumb stick is often enough to catch a slide before it becomes a spin... on a controller it doesn't even need to be that accurate because the input smoothing makes it less likely that you'll over do it. It's harder to get it right on a wheel, I find.

which with a T-GT you can feel, so makes it easier to get used to

It's not that well implemented. I have a T-GT now and though I mainly play GT, I've noticed other games do a better job of providing the feedback to feel where the grip limit is.

Over the last week i started to use my wheel again, when i got it i thought i had found a good place for it, i was wrong.
The placement of these things are so important, and i did not realize that so i had to quit using it, but after moving my PS4 i had a new chance, and while not perfect this is a vast improvement. So much that i am finding myself having lots of fun.

But the settings confuse me, is it recommended to race so that you really need to apply force to turn the Wheel, and do the 2 settings play into each other?
One thing that confuses me is the feedback, or lack of, i can drive over curbs and not feel them, when i loose grip in the corner, the wheel doesn't "ease up". Is this caused by the Wheel being a G29? are other wheels better with feedback?

Or is it just the game...

It's personal preference on how much torque and sensitivity you want to use but a G29 comes with limits you might find lacking. Anything over 4 torque causes clipping and if you ever over drive the car or find you need to catch a slide, even 4 can be too high as the motor and wheel gearing can have a hard time keeping up with what's happening.

It's the main reason why I say people (who are new to wheels) should drive like a lunatic for a few laps so that they can find its limitations. If you know what and where they are, you can can try and drive in a way where you don't cross them. By habit, I over drove everything up to when I got my wheel then it forced me to change my driving style. A G29 really doesn't like violent weight shifts and it's very easy to overwhelm any under or oversteer cues.

My question is doses PD give an advantage to the DS4 controller over the wheel like better traction, are penalties equal, or most important frame rate. I am thinking the DS4 has it! and The wheel just feels more real . Let’s face it every race in GTS has restrictions Even the need to buy a car . But not one race has wheel and pedals only . Maybe PD should change their advertising and take out “Real Simulator” and put in “Real Game”On it’s logo.

Have a look at this:

I think there's a small amount of input smoothing on a pad and the self centering is nice but a wheel will always be the superior control method as it's easier to be more accurate.

Different penalties and frame rate gave me a chuckle though. That's proper tin foil hat stuff.

Great video and super GT is one of my favorites, the test he did was not a race Where PD Will step in and change the out come . I will wear my tin hat for another day . Let me ask you when you are in a race doing what you think going in a turn and out went good . Then you are half way down the Straight and you look in the rear view You see a dot just coming out of that turn . Now before you hit brake for the next turn he is passing you on the inside with the same car you are driving . I do have a spare tin hat If you need one .

There hasn't been any evidence that suggested that DS4 users get any kind of artificial advantages, apart from the obvious.

He is driving a better car, he got slipstreamed, other tires, or is simply faster. Watch the replay, look at the turn in and out speeds.

PD is the one who makes the rules and restrictions in the daily’s and the penalties. How can we know what fair and equal between DS4 and the wheel . Wheel driver’s spend on the average more than $200 to $500 and some spend in the thousands $$, to compete in the same race as DS4 and no one can prove fairness . PD needs to offer one race in the daily’s for “Wheel Only” that way this conversation can be answered.

If you think there PD is really cheating on such a level then i think you are naive for not thinking it would have been uncovered a long time ago.

If you follow the money with PD and Sony their target consumer to Max’s Profit’s is DS4 controller users. Who could blame them why spend resources on a few old gamers Who are crazy to spend money to buy wheels and pedals When they design GTS to be played on a DS4 controller . Remember it’s always about the money!

This was my issue, on the DS4 I could feel grip loss, with the wheel I had no idea what the car was doing.
I have the opposite experience. Are you using a ffb wheel?

Turning up ffb makes the wheel heavier and often hides the subtleties of suspension movement, undulations in road surface, curbs etc. Ffb sensitivity adjustes how strong the ffb signal has to be before it even registers. So yes they will play into each other.

He got a better exit, is on better tires, has better gearing, shifts at the optimal rpm, caught your slip, has a faster car on straights, out braked you, objects in mirror are closer than you think, or some combination the above.
In this video here, Z28 suspects some additional effect of the BB setting.

(1) Obviously, BB's only effect should be balance under braking.
(2) Less obvious, the setting under which you brake into a corner also determines the actual balance 'state' of the suspension after the brakes are released.
(3) Beyond that it must not have any effect on the balance or cornering of the car. It would be a pretty big flaw in the simulation if there was such an effect.

I have also had the suspicion that cars 'corner differently', a while ago, but I blamed it on my inconsistent entries and on (2).
It could be the case that the balance you 'chose' by breaking into a corner with a certain BB somehow lasts

E- racing is becoming big business and is a great marketing tool. The PC dominates this market. Almost all wheels work on PC as well. So follow the money, you don't think Sony wants a piece of that?

Driving School in Campaign should be your go-to before racing anybody.

DS4 has steering dampening.

Funny how all the fastest, not just fast, but the fastest drivers out there, are behind a wheel. Follow the speed.. it points to someone behind a wheel leaving a DS4 user in the dust.

By the way it sounds like you are a A+ driver in competition , or just a guy who can race a clock . What I see in my Wheel racing is going into a turn first with a bump from behind and a bump to my side and I am the only guy with a penalty coming out. My question Is , the two other drivers on DS4s Or wheels , The only one who knows is PD.

My question is, don't you think there's already enough conspiracy theories in the air lately ?
My contribution is, the DS4 has a speed-related steering lock without an option to switch it off :irked: !

My advice is, when you search for reasons start with the man in the mirror - and I'm not talking about your rear view mirror ;) ...

According to your logic with all these hidden driving aids behind the DS4, the other drivers must be on wheels :D - but seriously :
You mustn't confuse what the crappy penalty system does with your suspected DS4 code that isn't there.

I'm on a DS4, I've always been  ... and there's been a couple of situations over the past thirteen years that had me complain about certain advantages wheels have. Now that I've finally got over it, it almost feels absurd reading comments that head into the opposite direction, honestly.
Don't forget it's all up to you - you're always free to choose your weapons 👍 !

And btw this thread is way off topic atm.

There are no weapons in racing just skill , equipment and fairness In competition. I would like to see In the daily race one More race Added for “wheels only “. I would pay an extra charge for PS plus or PD or both. Just for fairness in competition. To keep a full field of cars and Drivers make it only one race day Each week . This might help someone make Their choice for DS4 or Wheel.

Sorry I up set you because I would like to see a “wheel only” race added to the daily race of three. My question to you is why not ? What are you afraid of ? Will PD scrap GTS ? Or is it you don’t know.?

It took me honestly about a year to get fully comfortable using a wheel - originally on Forza Motorsport 3 or 4 (can't remember which), before buying an old G27 and diving into Gran Turismo 5. I flitted between controller and wheel out of sheer frustration - got to a point where I was not remotely comfortable with either control scheme

Nowadays I wouldn't dream of going back to controller. I use a Thrustmaster T-150 wheel, T3PA pedals and TH8A shifter for GT, and I swap out for a Logitech G920 when I fancy some Forza. I've managed to top hardcore leaderboards on Forza with a wheel, something that would have been impossible to do with the control pad.

Just stick at it, stick to time trials, go over and over laps until it feels natural. It might sound boring, but go to The Ring - if you can complete a few laps there with a wheel you are making huge strides.

Why do you still want a wheel only race after your DS4 theory is shown to be wrong?

My question to you is why not ?

You've offered no valid reasons why they should.

What are you afraid of ?

Spiders. Creepy buggers.

Will PD scrap GTS ?

Yes. All games get scrapped eventually.

Or is it you don’t know and am I am talking to a Pajama boy ?

I don't know because you won't tell me and to be honest, I'm kinda hoping you won't.

Let me start by saying DS4’s and wheels driver's are competitive In the “GTS The Game” but if you listen to the reasons to switch to wheel they are looking for “GTS The Simulator” and that is were fairness stops.
I am on my third Thrustmaster Wheel. I went with T-GT because it was made to use all GTS has to offer. I was told if you want to feel the race you need a rig to fully enjoy the T-GT built in kicker “ and I did . All of my YouTube research paid off and my budget Of $1500 met. Now it’s all up to Sony and PD to make the best Simulator as advertise By adding One “wheel only “ Race , that will make my day. As far as fairness no one knows.

The thing I am afraid of is America going Socialist.

I apologize for the pajama boy comment .

That 'real driving simulator' tag has been on the cover since the first game but it's a long way from being one. It's a (very enjoyable) simcade at best.

We've been trying to tell you that there's no difference in pace between the pad and wheel and that the deciding factor is the person controlling them. Ever watch top split races on youtube? There's a few exceptionally good pad drivers battling in it (mthomas95, calster and hellzfire spring to mind but there's loads more) but it's mainly the wheel users on the podium. Would you give them a pad only race as well as your wheel only race?

I apologize for the pajama boy comment .

No idea what one is so no need for an apology. I've been called far worse anyway.:P

Let me ask a simple questions is Most of the A rated drivers on wheels or a DS4 and how many D rated drivers have wheels or a DS4. Can any of you song birds tell me ?

You could always do a poll on here asking which controller they use along with what rank they are. It won't be a definitive answer but you should get a decent sample size out of it. I'd lay odds that if you're a DRD, you'll likely be surrounded by pads and in a tiny group with wheels.

Are you DRD? What you've been saying would make a lot more sense if you are.

Yes I am a D-SR I get a teaser from PD to a A-SR for a day or two until my grand kids get on Then back to My D rating funny never got a B or C rating . I have a hand full of wins but that is not what brings me back. I have over 15 years of real racing in Karting and Drag racing And some street racing. I had my share of real wins and lost a few friends to racing. I had the unfortunate ride in a Helicopter to the hospital from a karting accident . I really don’t think I fit your profile of inexperienced.
Sony PS4 came out and I bought one With Drive Club had it one day with the DS4 my next day I was looking for a wheel Spent a lot of time on the game until I reach around 800 on the leader board . Next PS4 Pro came out and GTS which bring me today . By the way I had a 2 years of IRacing subscription for my PC that was a complete waste of money.

Want to see fairness Look at GTS introduction video all drivers are on the Thrustmaster T-GT wheel for fairness.
