Well I know with the Supra I can get it spinning all the way through to 6th gear at 220km/h+ (137mph) before she spins out in the tunnel.

In my room:
~ Auto = Kick
~ Skid Recovery = Kick
~ X1 = Kick

lol whats wrong with auto? i have 3 cars i can run auto

someone gave me crap for running auto, i put it in manual and still beat him. same difference

In general, automatic transmissions are known as being more useful for lazy commuters than for hardcore racers. But it may be surprising for some to know that many pro drag-racing cars have heavy-duty auto gearboxes. That's because the brake-torque launch is an automatic specialty. This launch involves keeping the car stationary by flooring the brakes with the left foot, while using the right foot to rev up the engine against the torque converter. In technical terms, this preloads the entire drivetrain with the stress of a launch, allowing the engine to rev closer to its power and torque peaks at the starting line.

Yes, nothing wrong with auto, some cars on indy 1/4 i run auto. I got to confess, if the gears are to close, its hard to shift that fast...

It's more of an ethical thing. It's like using TCS. If your a real man you don't use it 👍

Also where they use auto gearboxes are on Top Fuel and other dragsters that do 0-200 in 3 seconds.

Yes, and they have only 2 or 3 gears in the gearbox. Many people are using 5 or more gears on indy 1/4 mile. If you divide the 1/4 mile time, with the times you changing gears, it can be tight. Some times you have to change gears a half second efter you launch etc..

Through 5th gear. I was trying to drift the beast, and could set the wheels spinning even at the low RPMs

very good drag car tho. i know mafia-boys hit around the 240mph mark out the tunnel, maybe more lol, im working on a tune for 1 to use all 6 gears, stupid i know but thats what im good at.👍

In reality guys, you need to have a gearbox setup more like a pro-stock car, rather than a nitro burner (Top Fuel/Funny Car). The nitro burners only use a single gear but have multiple clutches which slip to simulate the different gears.

You aren't the only one trying it bro. I just find that 5 gears is working better though. :)

So, I've never tried drag tuning or racing before. I enjoyed it in GT4, but since there are no drag strip in GT5 I thought it would be a waste of time to even try some kind of drag racing online. But I've stalked you "drag-people" for a while and seems like you have something good going on. But my real question is quite noobish: Where do you have your drag races? And what kind of cars do really have any chance of winning against something like a veyron? Do you use PP limit? Usual room settings? Could my SL 65 AMG be any good? An Enzo? A Challenger RM? So if someone could give me the basics of GT5 drag racing, I could start figure out the tuning by myself... Thanks a lot!

I'll break it down Temetias in pieces so I can answer everything here. :)

But my real question is quite noobish: Where do you have your drag races?
We have them at any place that has a decent length straight. For specific types of racing you have Indianapolis Road Course where there is a two lane strip beside the track for "1/4 mile" racers, even though it's only 367m. Over at the Top Gear Test Track, you have people racing over a standing kilometer, 1030m to be precise. For full max speed drags, the only real place is SSR7, which has a tunnel that's 3040m long. You can go to Le Sarthe 2009 (No Chicane) but the course is too bumpy to do proper drag racing, although it's a great track to test your top speed!! 👍

And what kind of cars do really have any chance of winning against something like a veyron?
Against a stock Veyron, a few road cars will take it to school including the Enzo, ACR & '03 Vipers, Ford GT No Stripe and the Speed 12 and most LMP's & the Formula cars will defeat it. Against a fully tuned Veyron however, there is no competition, it absolutely annihilates them.
Do you use PP limit?
It depends. A fair few people like drag racing LMP's though so a PP limit is hard to use. What we do use more often than not is a hp/weight limit to eliminate the X1's & FGT's. Usually you'll see the room with either a 1035-1065hp limit with a minimum weight of 760kg.

Usual room settings?
I'm not too sure what you mean with this one with "usual" settings, but depending on the host, you'll find either 0 aids or everything available including SRF!! :yuck: If you want to find the good racers though, find rooms that have 0 aids.

Could my SL 65 AMG be any good?
Yes, they are being made to do over 247mph through the tunnel.
Second best road car in the game behind the Veyron.
A Challenger RM?
Yep, a lot of us do muscle car drags inbetween all the Enzo & Viper slaughtering. 👍

So if someone could give me the basics of GT5 drag racing, I could start figure out the tuning by myself... Thanks a lot!
Come tonight to the Grease Monkey Drags room and I'll be more than happy to help. 👍 You'll find some of the other tuners with me such as dr.slump, not to mention heaps of dedicated drag teams.

to temeties..... Drag racing happins on alot of tracks most bein indy and special stage route 7, indy is for 1/4 mile and special stage is a long straite designed for top speed and acceleration, as for the cars run whatever You like but if as we all know if You go into a room and people are running vipers Dont get a 300zx if You want any chance of winning. There are alot tuning garages too and most of them are fast to, some garages are demize tuning, the drugaholics, team wolf pack and my crew grease monkey engineering. My advice is dnt ask people for full tunes dnt jump the line always havd a fast car and play nice lol. Hope i could help :-) :-)

^Thanks a lot Mafs! :) Sounds quite nice, I might join your room. And "tonight" is in your time which means the room will be up in a couple of hours am I right? It's 10am here in Finland. :D

E: Thanks d24689!

Yep. I'm actually on GT5, but haven't opened the room yet since I'm on here. :P

*added bit* d2, it's the drAgaholics, not the drugaholics. You make it look like they're a bunch of saudi stoners. :P

I tried drag racing today and that was awesome! I had some close races with onboy and some not so close races against Mafs. I also tried 1/4 mile at the Indy and found that even more entertaining. I guess I'm gonna keep my veyron for the SSR tunnel racing and tune the rest of the cars for 1/4 mile. My srt10 '06 was useless at the tunnel but I've not lost a single 1/4 mile with it yet. (gotta go against someone from GME sometime) I gotta try the standing mile sometime too.

But slightly on topic for a while: My Bugatti seems to be tuned differently than everybody elses. I can hit 428kmh at the end of tunnel and I have front set high and rear low. I think I could do over 430kmh by raising the front even more but with the front so high it becomes too difficult to handle when the wing drops. I just crash all over the place. Any tips?

I wouldn't raise the front so high, it cause the car to crash when it passes 240mph-ish.

@ Mafia_boy, can we do another SSR7 run again tomorrow? I made some changes and want to see if it's turned my car bad or average. Well, no, I won't see the difference, dr_slump will. So...yea...

But it made the car go faster so I wanna do it! I just need to control it...

No chance. That's the Veyron problem. I works offline, but for some reason not online.......weird, I know. I think you would be the first one who could fix it.

I'm gonna try! :) Hopefully I can come up with something that can hold it in a straight line for that 430kmh+ finish!

Sorry that I can't use quotes. My phone has a will of it's own.

Do it! Imagine what would happen if you could do it.......

You can't quote? Well, that's not a big problem.
But you show us that propper grammar, syntax and spelling is possible even with a phone........ 👍

i already get 434kph with my veyron lol

Yeah, but imagine what we could do with an extreme nose-up setting. 436? 437? Over 440kph (yeah, I'm dreaming)?

your dreaming , it cant be done, me and mafia tried. epic fail. lol:scared:

Not exactly mate, it has been done when we did that testing. The thing we looked at was combining that killer acceleration we had with the top speeds that we were getting (remember, we were getting 435 & 436 but with poor acceleration, or 432 with electric acceleration) and we found that being at 434kmh/270mph is the best balance. The nose, spring rate & dampers were the biggest changes we made after we fixed our gearboxes.

Get on tonight, I want to show you something re: Veyron. 👍

Onboy, I hope you enjoy that new tune, and you're more than willing to take it up against me but remember my friend you're running a gearbox we USED to run so if you did wholesale changes to bring it up to our current level I will be impressed. 👍

Temetias, the front can be raised to the sky, the suspension has to be changed to accomodate it however, not to mention it kills your off the line acceleration. ;)
