Drifting VS Grip - Video Demo

Because its a replay.^^^

I've allways been under the assumption that a little four wheel drifting will quicken your speeds if you use it to rotate quickly, sliding onto the late apex line and you can get on the throttle earlier. I think this is called the slip line if im not mistaken. In gt3 you could get massively faster times if you did this. The best example i can think of is the demonstration of the super L test at laguna seca in the viper team oreca(in gt3). You kind of came close to basically following that line on a few turns around that track. The other times you just..... drifted lol.
I always wondered why, if that style of cornering i mentioned in gt3 was the fastest, why you didnt see it more often in proffesional race events. I guess it just destroys the tires quickly. Anyone know anything about this?

I think if someone says that a drift line can beat a grip line it all depends on the exact definition of what a drift line has to be.

Just sharing a few observations/thoughts. Cool vid! 👍

Well it's a pretty aggressive technique, the tires is one thing, the risk of a mistake is another. another disadvantage of drifting- stability and the skill required. the video wasn't my first take. my biggest problem is overcountering when drifting, end up flinging into the far wall. you were mentioning 4wd drifting? i know they usually drift in hairpins during mountain rallys.

As the drift king says, you can't beat a grip driver drifting unless you've done it for a while, but I'm a real big fan of touge, two thumbs up....and was that initial d style racing, or pass other car out and win type of racing

i watch alot of Best Motoring(BMI), that was "pass other car out and win" type. like i mentioned earliar, my objective was to push, see how well my technique keeps up. so if u used this touge rule, it's considered a draw. but i can confidently say i had plenty of oppurtunities to pass the AI which i held back in. but who cares, it was fun~

I used to have that problem of flinging it into the opposite wall when correcting. I catch(restabalize) most drifts pretty well now if not perfectly everytime. Im using 900 degree mode so take heart anyone whos pulling their hair out trying to get it down. You will get it eventually, try checking out my post for the hint that really made me grasp countersteering properly.

damnit....the thing thats reallly starting to piss me off is i cant figure out
how to drift on hairpins or really tight corners(either i dont know the right line or i
cant figure out how to control the car at slower speeds)i can pretty much drift trial mountain perfectly but Tsukuba is becoming a real pain in the ass :banghead: can someone show me some pictures or links that illustrate the right drifting line for hairpins? 👍

BTW can you post the settings of that 240 :D

anybody??

i dont get what drift or grip mode is it a setting or what if it is where do you change it ?

It's not a mode or even a setting. It's a style of driving. Nothing more, nothing less.

Did you try Drift settings Depot and look for S14? THere are several different settings in there.

Use the same car, same tires(?), same weight, and same power. Use settings A for drift and settings B for grip. The only differences should be the suspension settings.

sorry, man. missed your post. i'm not good at explaining techniques. there's plenty of good videos on the drifting forum to observe drifting lines. If you're talking about Tsukuba, I know TankSpanker made a video that pulled some pretty impressive drifts on Tsukuba. Vid's called Centrifuge 2. I did a vid on Tsukuba's wet track, but I used a different technique, TS's might be the one you'd want to learn. As for really tight hairpins like the bends on Costa di Amalfi, you just got to give it the right amount of slippage- enough to pull you through and not slide into the wall. Practice your entry first, worry about exit speed later. Throwing your car into a drift on wide roads like Trial Mountain won't work in Costa. Make use of your brakes. And for a track like Costa, you might want to get to know the track first. The twist and turns may be tricky during first attempts, so practice racing on there before you start any drifting. I hope I making any bit of sense... I got setting info from this site, then just practice different techniques myself.. so sorry, i can't reflect off of anyone. Anyway, this is the way I did it.. hope this helps. Good luck.
