So what will be on the day one update, I thought it was weather but someone said that's still a month away.

Where did you hear about an update on launch day? Quite a few games with a long lead-in tend to have a launch patch for a few small things, or stuff they couldn't be sure would be ready by the time the game is gold.

From the various gameplay videos that are out there, you can see some excessive rubberbanding going on. From easily catching up the field after a crash, to opponents blasting by on the straights while being in the same car.

My copy from Amazon just arrived in the US about an hour ago and I've played it for an hour so far. I don't know what was in the day one update but it did download a patch immediately, must have been small though because it didn't take long. I can confirm that the AI will catch you really quickly if you make a mistake, usually the top 1-2 cars though, I don't know if its rubber banding but the AI is really competitive. You have to drive fairly decent to place first most of the time. I have seen an AI car pass me going down a straight even though they were in the same car as me, which I thought was strange but I just chalked it up to drafting and sling-shot around me, hard to say as I'm not far into it yet. Ultimately with no difficulty setting, the AI is going to give you a good race. The car sounds are pretty decent on the higher end cars, but sound pretty bland initially on the early cars. The tire screeching on the pavement sounds pretty bland and generic though and can get old. The game doesn't look bad though which is a plus but its certainly not blowing away FH2 by any means, if at all.

As I have more time to play today, I'll come back and update again. These are just my first impressions.

Oh I thought photomode would be in a day one update, I stand corrected then.

No worries, I just hadn't heard of a patch...but there again, I'm only looking here and nowhere else really.

I found a picture on neogaf. Neither photomode or weather.
@Blkout Thanks. How is the handling?

Mystery solved then.

You are going to get swamped with questions.

Yea, I have not seen any weather yet.

The handling is most certainly on the arcade side of things. Doesn't mean its not fun but if you want good lap times, you better embrace drifting to some degree. Don't go into it expecting any kind of simulation type physics.

Back to it for now so I can answer more questions later...

Wow, drifting around a corner is quicker than driving properly? So much fail. This game looked so promising, how could they make some of these game design decisions?

You don't absolutely have to drift but you will probably be quicker if you drift the tighter turns. Yea, its certainly leans towards arcade racer in my opinion. So far its not bad at all but doesnt hold up to FH2.

Love the game soundtrack though. I rarely race with music playing but I like the soundtrack so much that I turned it on in this game.

I can't help but draw some parallels to NFS Shift though earning stars for racing to move on to higher level races. It sure feels a lot like an updated NFS Shift, but not Shift 2 which wasn't good at all. Even the general car physics feel somewhat similar to NFS Shift.

Evoloution have talked about this several times, emphasising each time that the game is angled more at players having fun, so everyone can jump in rather than be put off by being too inaccessible for less hardcore players. I believe they also said something about the more sim orientated crowd still being able to have fun with the game due to settings, or somesuch (I forget exactly what was said.)

It depends on cars, surface. In many circumstances drifting is much faster. I am not good in drifting and do not like it much but some those are good in it are also much faster in rally games.

A couple of things from the manual.

Max driver level is 50.

The touch pad button returns you to the main menu.

Look out for the Alpacas in Chile

There's really nothing to adjust from a settings standpoint though, not a single assist so basically the only setting you get is the difficulty of the AI. Since they wanted you to drift in this game due to goals and challenges, its clear they designed the game to be drift friendly and it is. I'm not a drifter, hate drifting in most games however they've made drifting pretty accessible. It still takes some practice to be really good at it, but they've made it easier than most games, much more like NFS games in that regard.

And in DC, you won't be required to drift, but I guarantee if you're good at it, you will be faster if you know when to drift and when not to. There are some really tight turns on some courses and drifting is faster than actually slowing down. However on less extreme turns, you may be quicker to properly brake and turn without breaking traction. Also every car has a drift rating in their stats so some cars are going to be better at drifting than others too.

Thanks for the clarification on that.

That's where I enjoy drifting, as it feels so satisfying. I also enjoyed in in Grid, which was set up for drifting.

 I'm used to Wales and Devon with ninja sheep or bloody big Stags around every corner, but duly noted and thanks for the heads-up.

So this game didn't get good reviews, PS plus version to convince me.

I honestly wasn't expecting it to do well with the critics based on what I've played so far and the bar has been set pretty high by FH2. I'm guessing the final Metacritic score is going to be around 68. Its still fun but I stand by my statement that is lacks a lot of content and depth compared to FH2.

Yeah me too, I expected an average of 7, which is an 8 if you're a racing fan, it is a bit like GT where it will always get better from there.

That's probably true. There's still some missing promised features which will enhance the game. Weather will be a nice addition, replays would be really nice to have and I know some people love photo mode all of which are not available yet. Paid DLC coming later will be more locations, courses, cars, etc. which will help as well. However, the game still lacks some depth which may bother some and likely won't be improved due to the core game design.

@bevo the PS+ edition will be available when the store updates. So either later today or tomorrow depending on your location.
