Hennessey Venom GT (Left side)

Ruf CTR3 (Middle)

Pagani Huayra (Right side)

Koenigsegg Agera R (Up close)

Good call.

Not seen the venom before but it does have a front end (well headlights) like the Elise!

Pretty interested in this but I hope there is track racing too as I'm not a huge fan of point to point races.

:)👍

The Vemon does indeed look similar to the Elise. It also reminds me of the Exige as well. :)

I very much agree with you on that. As much as I love point to point racing (many for rally), there should be circuits in DriveClub too. Maybe there is for all we know, haha. ;)

There's new details in the new issue of EDGE, I haven't got the mag so I don't know the details, but this is a new screens:

From another forum.....

There really isn't that much.

Its a double page interview with the game and technical directors from Evolution studios, but it mostly focuses on the Dualshock 4 and how they helped with its design.

Because they obviously know it'll go down well they specifically talk about how they had input on the parts for the gyro control and how they had to compromise with the Killzone team on how much subtlety of control the triggers have. They also have a Motorstorm RC prototype with the DS4 which apparently takes advantage of 'reduced deadzone size and more accurate sticks'.

There's also some talk about how there were mockups for the game that look like dating websites. Oh and how its not a simulation or arcade game but something new.

Or a mix between RPG and what TDU brought up in this recent gen consoles that's known as MOOR. 💡

I think it is called Massive Open Online Racing I believe?

Anyway, I'm liking the game though! 👍

Thats because the Venom basically is an Elise/Exige, just on steroids :)

This game keeps looking better, cant wait till it comes out. Should be good I reckon and different

Means it's an arcade game, but arcade has become such a pejorative term that they're trying not to use it.

Really, a simulation tries to emulate reality as much as possible. Anything that prioritises entertainment over realism is arcade. Obviously it's not black and white and you can have a certain level of both, which is where game designers earn their money.

But I fail to see what you're doing if you're not being realistic or entertaining. Unrealistically unfun? Sounds like just a plain old bad game to me.

I don't think Sony would let it be a launch title if it was going to be bad. Maybe wait until more definitive footage and details surface first.

Excatly. 👍 Can't wait to hear more about DriveClub, so excited for it just as much as GT6. :D

Sim =/= realistic, to a degree. Realistic in that a sim driving/racing game is trying to simulate the feel of driving a real car but what they're doing doesn't have to be real/legal to be a sim, or at least not considered arcade.

Well sony dont have a history of releasing good game at start. I bought the ps2 when it was out in japan and the launch titles sucked. Same things for the japan ps3 (which was the first released). By the time it comes to europe, usually there's new game out but if you look at the game at the time the console was first release, it's not usually great game.

Now we have worldwide release so it might change, we'll see.

Ps2 had Tekken Tag Tournament and Timesplitters wich were great. Ps3 had Formula one championship, Motorstorm and Resistance, wich were also great.

Sure there were some avarage game like Oni ( ps2) and Genji (ps3) but to say all launch game weren't good is a bit to much.

You're forgetting SSX & Midnight Club, both were big hits.

Before I begin I wanted to bring attention to how similar the lighting engine of Gran Turismo is to DriveCLub

The only automotive games with Sony Computer Entertainment as a publisher have been CTR, Gran Turismo and Twisted Metal. (Realize that all of these games except GT involved fictional "cartoonish" vehicles that would never have a place in a racing simulation game) But DriveClub (an arcade, social racing game) is now also under that publishing hat.

I have been trying to denote DriveClub's role as a racing game compared to Gran Turismo in the PS4's lineup and have come to a realization. It is obvious the two games are not meant to compete with one another. One involves roads (like Stelvio Pass) and a more NFS-like gameplay mechanic. The other markets itself as a driving sim.

DriveClub may very well be the "Forza Horizon" to Gran Turismo 6's "Forza. Which may also mean that some of those car models may make it over to Gran Turismo 6, saving Polyphony Digital precious work hours (two development teams building cars for each others games, what isn't there to like?). I cannot see why two Sony teams would withhold work from one another when they are essentially working within the same organization.
Evolution Studios themselves made allusions to PD offering some advisors. And this could mean those Koenigseggs, Henneseys, BMW M5 F10s, CLA45 AMG C117s and BAC Monos could already be sitting in PD servers, already finished.

I like the thought of Sony companies sharing, but I am not sure PDI would do this.

Its all one company to begin with.
It doesn't make any sense for them not to do it, since both games involve high detail car models. All that would be required is both development teams talking to one another to know the minimum of what their car models require.

There is no reason for either of these development teams to withhold information from one another since they are all playing for the same team. Cross development work between separate teams is already common in today's game industry.

Also please notice the cars in DriveClub's trailer have never been in a Gran Turismo game:
DriveClubs confirmed vehicles were:
The Hennessey Venom GT
Pagani Huayra
Koenigsegg Agera R
Aston Martin Vanquish (the second gen)
BMW M3 GTS E92
Maserati GranTurismo Sport (the revised model that replace the S featured in GT5, notice the front bumper)
Ruf CTR3 Clubsport
BMW M5 F10
Mercedes-Benz CLA45 AMG C117

Now while Evolution and PDI have the same parent company in Sony, they are most likely operated individually. I see a similar situation in place that Pepsi Co. has with in owning Frito Lay and Pepsi Bottling Group ( I was employed with PBG and FL for several years).

Sharing between PDI and Evolution is possible but I don't know of any circumstances in where a Gran Turismo title was outsourced to an additional party.

I was not implying they outsourced the entire game, just certain assets of the game like car models. Both seem to have put a significant amount of time into their car models and it makes little sense for them to do twice the work when they could share car models with one another the same way as Forza and Forza Horizon.

This would allow them to focus on other things (other cars, other aspects of the game, tweaking physics, etc).

Highly unlikely they will share anything, to be honest. Everything still comes down to licensing & agreements. Koenigsegg may have agreed to let Evolution use their cars, but that doesn't mean they will give any rights to Polyphony.

And despite being under the same ownership, they're both still racing games, & thus, there is still a small level of competition between them. I can see them helping each other out, but not to the degree of T10 & Playground Games where they basically gave one another car models unless they each want to put a Polyphony/Evolution logo on their covers.

It would be cool to have both companies make cars for GT6, but Drive Club cars show a level of detail in areas that the GT5 cars don't have. I'm not just talking about the number of polygons since we all know that GT5's cars aren't shown at their best.

We don't see engines, trunks, and whatnot in the current premium cars. If these cars showed up in GT6, we could have up to three different levels of quality (standard, premium, and "Drive Club" premium). That would never sit well with the community, so I don't think the cars are shared at all.

So what are the similarities? That doesn't look very much like a Gran Turismo photo. Looks more like Forza to me.

I can't see it honestly, evedn though Forza Horizon is a different game by different creators, drive cub and GT are two different developers, thus meaning contracts from manucture's are void by shareing,

All I see is the ugliest Mercedes ever....
And it doesn't look real at all. Pretty far from GT5 photomode.

I think we should wait and see how DriveClub will turn out. Will it really be a competition to PGR/NFS/GRID or will it be just a generic racing game? The graphics are looking strong at the moment, but I dont think that it will be that good in the end.

It probably will be like FM 4 and Forza Horizon. We all will play it for a bit, but we will go back to GT soon. I dont see DriveClub as the big new racing game series, but we will see.
