It probably will be like FM 4 and Forza Horizon. We all will play it for a bit, but we will go back to GT soon. I dont see DriveClub as the big new racing game series, but we will see.

I think all is rather an exaggeration in this sense.

I agree, but seeing what friends and others are playing most of the time, such games are played heavily a month after release and then the people go back to Forza respectively GT. I play those too games the same way since release, with the same passion. But games like Dirt, Burnout and others are boring after a month or so, even when they are good.

I am still wondering why I come back to GT and Forza without getting tired of them...

Polyphony is such an individual company. They do everything themselves. I always wonder if they would ever consider outsourcing a bit on modeling. I'm sure they have their reasons if they don't.

In terms of development and looks, PD has their own way of showing us realistic graphics and Evolution Studios probably has their own, so I don't think they'll share techniques for their sake of identity, not necessarily competition. How weird would it be to play two different games, with the same graphics and looks.

It would be great, I know Evolution would glady colaborate with PDI but Kaz would have a hard time sharing with someone else, he is an excesively proud man and in his mind, nobody does things better than him.

So true 👍

I'm hoping it's Sony's answer to Forza Horizon, I'd like that.

I like this idea, that would be awesome!! 👍

I want to have high hopes in this game, as well as for GT6, but I don't know, I tend to expect too much from games.

New info from Game Informer via gofreak @ neogaf:

- cars will take damage, but it won't affect handling
- AI lies somewhere between an arcade and simulation racer
- in terms of additional cars, it will apparently be one of Sony's 'biggest dlc games'
- tracks are on open landscapes with large draw distances
- you can play offline or as a single player if you wish
- you can create race events of varying types and size, configure time of day, weather etc. have sprawling multi-day events with hundreds of teams

more info:

Play offline in single-player
- Also has a big online focus
- User-created race challenges encouraged
- Everything you do is tracked by a single profile in single-plaer
- With teams, accomplishments are funneled together into the larger success of the group
- Three-on-three team challenges included
- Create events based on different parameters: car type, track, time of day, weather, etc.
- Can make lengthy multi-stage events that take place over a number of days
- Participants can span in the thousands with hundreds of different teams
- Win smaller accolades to add team’s XP
- These include clocking the fastest lap, drifting 1,000 meters, going 0 to 60 the fastest
- Use apps outside of DriveClub to make challenges as well
- Spread accomplishments and media through social media chanels
- Evolution will be making its own season of league racing through weekly online race events
- Visuals and gameplay are equally important
- DualShock 4′s touchpad is used for menu navigation, for the most part
- Touchpad also being considered for cameras
- Not a simulation-based racer
- Damage cars take won’t determine how they handle
- Koenigsegg, Maserati, Pagani, Hennessey are represented
- Start off with slightly less glamorous cars
- Race and increase fame/funds to gain access to better cars

Sounds promising,

Shame about the no track option tho, not a fan of open world racers! Still will pick up DC on day 1 tho :D

I find it discouraging that Sony sounds almost proud when they say the game will have tons of DLC.

...in my opinion, that's not something to be proud of. If a game is good at launch and has things players want, they wouldn't need all of this 'DLC'

I agree, but Forza proved that a lot of people want this, for whatever reason.
We can only hope that this will lead to cheaper core games in the future.

There will always be something that releases after the game, or will have come out during the final stages of the game - what about that? Should they just be left to the wayside because the core game is thought to be good enough?

I get the criticism, don't get me wrong, but it seems the idea of DLC has more a bad reputation than those that abused the idea.

While I agree, if Sony needs to release a lot of DLC after the game even comes out, they should have given it a longer development time to include more content in the core release game.

I'm not trying to say DLC is necessarily a bad thing, but it has gotten to the point where it's getting quite rediculous; the way developers churn out DLC, and then charge almost twice the original games cost in total for all of the DLC.

Look at games like Forza; buy original $59.99 game or $79.99 Collectors edition. Later, buy $49.99 Season Pass. Then, later, buy an extra $30 worth of content not covered by it. I know DLC is totally optional, but some people just don't have the money to buy it all and thus they get bored with the game quicker than those who do buy it, which just proves my point about why developers need to extend game development time if they plan ahead, before a game even releases, that the game will have ton's of DLC.

We can thank COD for that, I don't mind DLC as long as it's something developed after the game was released, in racing games for example, adding cars that are revealed IRL long time after the game is released is perfectly justifiable.

Perfect example - C7 Corvette for GT5, they could've perfectly justify charging for it but they were kind enough to make it free. Forza 4 did this too with the Viper but they also did the "season pass" scheme that we all hate, the Porsche pack though required a new license so they have all the right to charge for it.

I don't like seeing that SONY is planning on Drive Club being a DLC cash cow. That just SCREAMS deliberately withholding content only to be sold later as much hyped "DLC".

Delaying it wouldn't change anything after the fact because there's still going to be DLC for cars that are released in the next year, the year after that, or for a couple of cars that were indefinitely removed because agreements broke down.

There's always going to be something.

You can thank games like Call of Duty for that; when a business model works you better believe it's going to be adopted sooner rather than later. Is it unfortunate? Of course it is, but the best way to prevent it from happening again is to not buy it - vote with your wallet. It works contrary to popular belief.

If you're referring to the Porsche Expansion Pack you can thank EA for that. It was never going to be add-on content from the onset, in fact the end product was less than what was originally intended.

I'm so hyped up for DriveClub even more now after reading that info. Day one purchase. :D

Same here. It feels like Horizon and TDU put together. And I'm glad that I can play offline and online similar to how TDU2 works. On TDU2, you can be online and you can drive around and meet others or go about your own business like you're offline and do races or the story.

Can't wait. :)

That was the one thing I was really concerned about, but after reading the info I've just gotten more hyped up for DriveClub. Another one I had in mind and was worried about, was not able to play single player and be offline, but now that you can, day one purchase. :)👍

The rest is already making DriveClub the best racer to own on PS4. I so can't wait to create my own events, I'll make sure to find some beautiful areas on the map to have as my track event. :D

- cars will take damage, but it won't affect handling
I'm not so happy about this bit, a shame really.

The rest though sounds all hunky-dory and quite appetite whetting. I don't think the DLC issue will be as bad as is being suggested. If the cars come in packs, prices will be lower per vehicle and we really need to see how Evolution handle it first before criticising too much.

I mean, Sony also own PD and they have let them go their own way with regards to how much DLC appears - plus pricing has been very good, that is when they did charge for it.

I can overlook the DLC issues with this one. Its going to be a launch or near launch title, so obviously they didnt have years to sit on their hands like Polyphony Digital.

I'm more interested in the crash physics then damage affecting handling. With all the manufacturer support I suspect the crashes will be dumbed down.

Still a Day 1 buy from everything I've seen so far

Nobody is forced to buy the game or any dlc's, just saying.

That has to be the dummest reply one can use in a discussion about dlc. (Sorry its your post I picked) No your not forced to buy it, unless you want the WHOLE game. You dont need two parents to raise a child, but that doesnt make it a good idea.

When a game comes with the DLC on the dvd when shipped its a cheap money grab plan and simple.

...When a game comes with the DLC on the dvd when shipped its a cheap money grab plan and simple.
But do we know that'll be the case? I've seen a few games suffer due to that unfair assumption.

No offense but I think wait and see is the best policy. If it proves to be so, then don't buy the DLC as suggested. If DLC is an ongoing thing relating to newer vehicles over the following years, then what harm? Even specialised racing packs can come in as additional idea via DLC.

No, it happens to be true. The option to by DLC is just that, its an option. As such its not dumb at all, you may disagree with it but you may want to temper you tone in future.

No your not forced to buy it, unless you want the WHOLE game.
That very much depends on the nature of the game and the DLC.

You dont need two parents to raise a child, but that doesnt make it a good idea.
And sometimes its a better idea, that very much depends on the circumstances.

When a game comes with the DLC on the dvd when shipped its a cheap money grab plan and simple.
Which is not universally true and as such is not a reason to dismiss all DLC.
