why forget about gt3? it might not have anywhere near the car selection of the other 2 but its not a bad game, ive been playing it alot the past few days. its fun to just cruise around that 'complex string'

It's not that GT3 is bad, it's just that GT4 has a lot more going for it. Since GT3 and GT4 use the exact same console, then I see no reason for GT3, since GT4 has almost everything GT3 has* but much more.

* = Except Rome Circuit, Smokey Mountain, Tahiti Dirt No.3, Complex String, and 5 more F1 cars. Your mileage may vary. And it doesn't have engine power inconsistencies. Or the stupid Driving Missions. Or 20 more license tests. Or multiple prize cars.

I think I'm sold. I couldn't resist picking up a GT4 book the other day at Elecronic Bulltique, it had full color pix of all the cars and their stats. Oh man my head almost exploded rite in the store. I'll be looking forward to seeing y'all in the GT4 forums, soon.

Brought a GT3 book, but don't have the game, and if they have it,I'm gonna buy the GT4 book aswell!

and i dont know about u pupik but i love the driving missions in gt4, theyr really hard (most of them) and good practice. sorry to keep arguing with u dude, no hard feelings lol :)

So anyone change their driving styles yet? I'm still using the analog for steering but I can't seem to use analog for the accleration/braking. (I wanted to use it for when I was drifting)

Lol Neon, yeah, all these threads are becoming train wrecks. Anyways, keep at the analog, it takes getting used to, but it's more controllable imo.

it took me about a week to get used to the analog, it took me longer to learn with MT tho. im trying to practice with all the different views and mt/at. its realy hard for me to be good at more than 1 setup

I'll tell you the story of how I accidentally learned to drive a stick! It was October of 2003, and I got this PS1 game called Ford Racing. This is a ripoff of GT, I'm sure you've seen it in the bargain section. Anyways, very early on I was doing their version of the Sim mode in a Ford Ka. I was literally just learning how to drive via Playstation-and on my 3rd or 4th race I accidentally hit MT instead of AT. Oh well, let's just see how it goes.

Turns out I did fine! Course it helped that the Ford Ka is super slow, this helped me concentrate (it only hits a max of about 74 mph in that game).

I didn't start using analog gas/brake till January of 2004, out of pure frustration. I was trying to race a Camaro I think (this is GT1, now.) and couldn't get the damn thing to stop spinning out at Autumn Ring. And i thought: man, wouldn't it be great if they just freekin' allowed you to use the right mushroom stick instead of the X button? And I went in the options and sure enuff there it was! ;O

I drive the same way. I quickly picked up sterring by analog stick but I haven't really tried the accerlate/braking by analog stick.

i didnt know you could use the right analog for the gas/brakes! is it the same deal as the buttons - all or nothing for the gas and brake? or is it adjustable

Totally variable, bro, that's the whole beauty of analog. That's right, no more tap tap tapping to get that perfect amount of fuel! You can hold analog at half throttle...quarter throttle, whatever you want. Same deal with the brakes-you can start into a corner with a partial amount so you don't lock wheels, and then stomp on them as you near the apex. That's why I'm mystified at the # of folks who use buttons. I tell you what: those frickin buttons hurted my hands till I made the switch :)

I'm still laughing at Neon's trainwreck pic! Oh, that's funny!

I drive anolog, MT, chase view. i think is better for me when i drift.

Funny thing. I've always been into Chase 2, but now that I've started GT3, I find the cockpit much easier to drive with. Probly cuz in that game the chase view is so damn big. But when I come back to GT2, I can't use the cockpit view much unless I'm flying down a straight...it just messes with my cornering.

yeah i really like the cockpit view in gt3, its not so close to the groud as in gt2 where its hard to see the track sometimes.. i like chase and cockpit about the same in gt3, depends on what im doing

Funny thing is ever since I've been racing GT3, i'm starting to rely on the cockpit view in GT2 now! I can still get better drifts with chase, tho...and chase also helps when you're stuck in the middle of traffic.

thats very true, i wish there was a way to see whats right next to you in cockpit view, the blind spots are huge. and it is way easier to drift in chase view, mainly so i can see what kind of angle i have and so i dont spin

I think Playstation 3 will have this advance?? GT5 will have a ‘driver’*with a neck that swivels, so you'll be able to look out the side window. Eventually we're all gonna need extra thumbs.

I really wished that GT had a true cockpit view, one with cockpit, like many other games have. I understand that would be hard to make more than 700 different cockpits, but even if it had only one standard cockpit for all cars, would be better than none imo...

Yup, I agree. Of course, if they did make a generic cockpit, it would open the doors to all the complainers “hey, where's my Shelby Cobra interior with a Hurst 4 on the floor??~!! I thought MY Integra would be included in tha game!!” and so on...

gt4 has something kindof like this, if your driving a convertible with the top down and in chase view, your driver turns his head as you drive, doesnt affect the gameplay tho

Im a super-novice in just about all racing game but I love them so much. I use AT, cockpit or chase,L analog,R analog and buttons. ive tried MT but it hasnt worked for me yet cause im not good at shifting for turns. But I have been able to make changes to the setting to allow drifting with gas/steering control

Using analog is like racing a radio control car, makes total sense to me, too. As far as manual goes, it helps to start off with something slower. I learned manual shifting on a Ford Ka, for instance.

In GT2, I always used AT and the chase view. In GT4, I've experimented a little with MT, but it'll take more practice to get good at it. I'm also a devout d-pad user. I personally hate the analog sticks in most games, especially racing.

i finally figured out how to use the right analong for throttle/brakes so now i use that instead of the buttons. its hard to learn but now its definately better for precision

Woo hoo time to party! :embarrassed:

A year ago I convinced my housemate to switch from buttons to full analog. I remember it made him a bit more competitive against me, too. He had a problem with spinning out in corners cuz he'd basically be applying full brakes and then full throttle in and out.

Ha, it's not that bad. The buttons are pressure sensitive, so you can apply less than full throttle or brakes. I agree the analog probably does let you be more precise, but I find it way too uncomfortable. Also, I find the handling of the car is way too touchy with the analog. :indiff:

Actually, GT2's buttons aren't pressure sensitive, I think you got GT3 confused with the 2nd game..unless you got some weird version the rest of us don't have.

I look at it like this. When I get in my real-life car, do put my pedal to the floor every time I need gas? No way! If I need to regulate the throttle, do I tap my accelerator over and over or do I hold it down partially with my foot? See, it's the same with analog...you're giving partial throttle..partial brakes, instead of full on/full off tap tap tap... I dunno, it makes sense to me!

Really? GT2 wasn't pressure sensitive?! My fault. :embarrassed:

nah but i wish it was, the analog works but it takes a while to get used to cause it is very sensitive. the problem i seemed to have when i was learning it was that my thumbs werent coordinated at all  since i wa using two thumbs on two sticks, one going side to side, and one going up and down, whenever i would stop paying attention i would end up using both analogs at kind of diagonal angles. i dont know maybe i thought if i did that id have like MEGA speed and handling, even now i have to check what my thumbs are doing every so often to make sure theyre doing what theyre supposed to
