Result Special Stage - Laguna Seca Raceway

And again, we had some issues to get this race started! JT had some hardware problems caused by little creatures (:D) and I ran into some severe connection issues. This Special Stage had to start without us :grumpy: Luckily it looks like we both solved the problems now!

Anyway, Pipi shared his replay and I saw two very interesting races! Although IMMORTALPILOT has proven once again he can drive a car very fast there were some close battles for the other positions during the whole race. It makes you wonder if we should change the format to 2/3 short race instead of 1 long race( 💡).

Round 1
The interesting part about the SS is that it's not all about who's going to win the race but more of who's going to be just fast enough to advance to the next round. And, just like last season, it was close! I think the top 4 positions (except 1st of course) changed during the whole race in round 1 and it looked until the very end that pilot, brick, dany and goruk would reach the next round.
But then the tyre wear took its toll! Everybody was struggling with it... but Dany the most. If this round was only 1 lap shorter... He crossed the finish line with 1 lap to go in 3rd position but lost it all in the last lap. First he got passed by Goruk and then, in the very last corner, Pipi also managed to overtake him, leaving him in 5th position. What a race! 👍

Pipi and Dany_CL battling for 4th place in the last corner before the finish. Goruk, in the distance, securing his 3rd place.

Dany_CL, without any rubber on his tyres by now, could not close the inside.

Now it's just a matter of putting your right feet down and hope for the best

The rest is history...

Round 2
I'm afraid that before the start-sign was given everybody already knew who was going to win this one. I guess this season will be more about who's going to be the best of the rest :sly: The only thing IMMORTALPILOT had to do was passing the 3 in front of him. It didn't take long though and congrats again to him for winning the Special Stage of DTM V!

Yes the tires make the difference, too many mistakes by me and Goruk too, then i decide go a little slow and save the tires when i see Dany and Goruk battle for 3th place and pray for one of them have a tires prob like it happen with Dany, in second race was very different!!!

Hmmm. A spot available in my favourite BMW. Guys, I'm back.... and this time it's personal (try to find the picture I am referencing. It is in the GT5 GTP section)

But yeah, fron Fuji, I will be able to race. Lets see if I still have what it takes.

Is the special stage format something we should think about adopting for the whole series (as symp suggested)? It has been a great success since its addition last season. Have a think about it and we can maybe make some changes for DTM VI.

It's sure worth give it a thought. 👍

But I don't think the knockout aspect should be adopted for the races so everyone can be part of all rounds. The neutralizing effect by having the race divided in 2 or 3 parts can make the race more interesting though.
Maybe a sprint race and a feature race? Or just 3 rounds of about 20 minutes? Still think the whole event must not take more than 2 hours to complete (including the qualifying session). And what to do with the tyre compounds?

Lots of questions! :)

But since we're starting to talk about DTM VI (it always happens when we've had the SS ;) ) I also want to introduce an option to think about...

Due to lack of time and just that I'm not interested enough I never manage to get that perfect tuned car on the track before the race starts. It always gives me the unsatisfying feeling that I could have been faster. Maybe it's just an excuse for my slow driving (:D) but I'm really starting to hate that element of the DTM series.

But now since we have an option to force un-tuned/modifed cars it maybe an idea to have a championship with 'stock' DTM cars?
I know that for some of us it's just the challenge to setup the car for the track to make the difference. And it sounds a bit weird to have a racing series with tunable cars but without the ability to tune them. But let's discus it and I wonder what you all think about this.
However, I don't know if it's still possible to get the cars to an equal performance again but I believe the engine power limiter is still available when this option is checked.

So share your thoughts guys!

I like the idea of a sprint race, then the full length on a reverse grid. Kinda like what the BTCC have... but im not sure how to score it!

I'm not entirely sure wether the banning tuning stops you using a setup. I thought it just banned modifications to the car. But id I am wrong then it is something I am definately interested in. And multiple restrictions can be placed so it is fine.

It means car has to be completely stock the only things you can ajust are Brake bias and Power limiter. Downforce will also be stock so CLK may have more stock DF than the other cars not sure but, worth testing but. 👍

^ I'm currently looking at it and the only thing allowed to change is the engine limiter and brake balance. All other settings must be set to default. I will post as table soon to see where each car stands...

Edit:
I need an unmodified TT-R .... Goruk? ;)
Edit2:
Never mind, found one in the online dealer ship 👍

Ok, I wrote down some numbers and come to the following. The BMW M3 in unmodified status is definitely the slowest car. So to get all cars (theoretically) equal I adjusted all other cars to match the same performance points.

PP_Table_DTM6.jpg

Don't know how this will turn out on the track. The BHP/weight difference between the cars is pretty big. But I think that's already the case with the freedom of tuning (downforce and BHP) we have right now in DTM V. Now we need a good consistent driver to test each car with these settings...

So I took your settings symp, did a quick test round grand valley.
I got 570pp though, for a unknown reason to me but maybe the oil changing or that the engines that I have are less worn.

DTMTEST2.jpg

Track: Grand Valley
Laps: best of 5

Oil changed
Transmission max 193mph
Stock: DF, no turbo stage, suspension
Tyres: Soft, Soft

Astra
M3 + 0.129
TT + 0.161
A4 + 1.052
CLK + 1.058

Why was the clk so slow? Think the high df settings lowered the top speed a lot. However, cornering speeds where much higher.

Interesting stuff cause I would never have put the Astra to be the quickest. I know the quickest car that I drive is the TT, but there we go.

^ great work brick! 👍 Could be the oil change that I only got 568PP out of the M3.

And interesting indeed! The M3 surprises me also! So can we call 1 second difference about equal? Let's see if someone else can do a lap under 1.47.202 with the CLK/A4!

I think the average lap time will be about 1:30 (probably less)

So I would say:40 (+1) laps
Pit Window 1: 9-16
Pit Window 2: 25-32

Should be there, doing a bit of practice now. Best time of 1.27.294
pole will be in the 26's no doubt!!

PP adjustments for Race 4:

ImmortalPilot....597pp
Goruk77..........597pp
PipiR6.............598pp
LKWTrailer.......599pp
Everyone Else..600pp

Good race again guys and a flawless connection provided by Pipi yet again.
Congats to ImmortalPilot for yet another victory. That is 3 wins in a row, the 1st time that has happened in the history of the GTPDTM Series, so well done for that too. We shall see how you get on at Monza with 594pp...
I struggled again to find any speed and with massive understeer i couldnt cope with the twisty bits. Nevermind, at least i am finishing some races.

Ive got an idea for the next series bit it will need some working out and may need a longer testing period between series (like a winter break). More details will follow in the DTM VI thread which i'll have up in the next couple of weeks. Might not be everyones cup of tea but we will revert back to normal if it doesnt have approval.
Here is a taster...

Damn it....:ouch: in the final laps of the 2nd stint I was thinking "I've change tires too soon" now, that explain it...lol. Don't know why, for some reason I was thinking lap 6, funny thing is I had the laptop by my side...:dunce:

I nearly did the same goruk. In the 1st stint i was thinking 8-16 and trying to work out what the next window was in my head (dispite saying it loads of times in the chat...) Then i saw u pit and i nearly followed you in. Only at the last minute did i remember it was 9-16.

Ahhh I see, that would have changed things up!! oh well, easily done.

Was a great race btw, the most exciting race I've ever had I think! Mainly because of my setup of high speed on the straight proved quite effective!

Mite help me for monza lol
