I pulled off a 1:56.3 with the Charger. I'll post the video tomorrow. A quick tip...try adding a spoiler.

hey chuyler, did you use the stock trasmission? i really dont know how to tune the suspension, i have tried totally different settings but the driving doesnt seems to change at all. with the camaro my best lap is 1:55:354

If you got a 1:55, that's better than me.

It is definitely more about throttle modulation than horsepower. You can let the rear tires spit gravel, but for some reason if you get too much wheel spin, even in a straight line, it is slower than partial wheelspin. I'm beginning to wonder how accurate GT5's physics are when it comes to FR cars in the dirt. I really don't see how full throttle with locked differential could cause a car to go ass over teakettle driving in a straight line.

yes i understand how to drive this beast, if you accelerate everytime you are going to get bad lap times, i can say that on this challenge the tuning skills its useless, you can tweak every single screw and still suck. i have tried the cuyler settings then the opposite and the result was similar. ok here s my best run
1) 1:55:244
1) 1:55:971
1) 1:55:974
car: camaro 69 premium
controller: ds3
trasmission: manual
tip: drive more carefully on the last lap, its gonna be dark:nervous:

I dont believe you can fully lock a diff in GT5 (ie. welded diff or lockers like in off-road vehicles). You can get close but there will always be a bit of slip. I do notice that with higher values you have to 'steer' with the throttle more so there's some level of realism. I actually ran a better time with a more open diff.. tried the 60-60 at first. That may be due to the fact that it's more difficult to modulate the throttle with a ds3 and r2 buttons.

Your point about wheelspin it true too.. using manual and shifting early can actually help things with less torque being transfered to the dirt. (though that depends too, some of these cars make gobs of torque down low lol)

Cool idea, never thought about taking muscle cars on the dirt! Too bad they get equipped with those rally wheels however =/

If your getting excessive wheelspin increase the braking force at the rear and lightly hold the brake on the exit of slow turns. Basically your doing manual traction control.

I've been wondering this for a long time, and this seems like as good a place to ask as any.

I, generally, like to keep at least one "copy" of a car completely stock. The only exceptions to this are the muscle cars. I cannot stand their transmission and how much of the power goes to waste.

Do you guys use the stock transmission on these cars, or switch them out immediately?

Nice work! I've got a new video to post with the Charger, didn't beat your time though. It's possible, but its tough to find time on the track once you start running clean laps.

Absolutely, You can't win a single race without the custom transmission. They top out at like 110mph otherwise.

Uploading a video now. I'd like to see some other times/videos!

Too bad the Charger isn't a premium. This has to be one of the worst rendered cars in the game. The Premium Camaro looks so much better in photos...

chuyler this challange its the best way to wait the psn, congrats mate:tup:i m having so much fun triyng to get some fast laps whit this monsters that i have tried all the muscle cars in my garage, here s my best laps:

chevelle ss454 70
2:00:376

tempest gto
2:00:166

just two laps each whit this cars, then i have found the charger in the dealership, so i have spent about two hours triyng to get the best from the general, and came up whit this run:

1) 1:56:863
2) 1:56:574
3) 1:56:333

for the first time the last lap was the faster:confused:i have also made a little video with my phone but i lost the cable:ouch::banghead: i ll try to upload it tomorrow

I have a Charger, and I painted it orange just like The General. Huge Duke's fan here, I grew up on that and Knight Rider!

👍

Remember that Go-Man-Go was the original colour - you can actually buy that chip from Dodge.

OP, make that spoiler go away! :D

Nice work! The General's long wheelbase makes it tough. I had to work hard for my laps (spent well over an hour). You can take a photo of the replay showing the 3 laps in the top right. Email it to chris(at)huyler.net if that is easier.

I painted mine "Hemi Orange". I figure it must be the right color. It looks close in broad daylight but actually might be a little too dark.

I know the spoiler is ridiculous, but you try driving it without one. The spoiler is good for about 4 seconds a lap. I may try again without it now that I've put some clean laps in but its real hard to keep the power down on the sweeping right turn without it. Granted you sacrifice horsepower for the downforce, but the extra power really does you no good. Without the spoiler there is virtually no place on the track you can run open throttle.

Missed this before and was about to ask what was the best match, thanks! Some of those Dodge paint chips are awesome, I think I have about 7 or 8 Chargers now all in nice retro paint jobs :)

EDIT: Anyone know how the General was tuned? I think it was lowered some and had a roll cage, wasn't it a special model also though, Dodge Charger Daytona springs to mind (checks Google and Wiki)

I'm guessing the duke boys had it fully tricked out, race exhaust and all. Definitely had a roll cage and the doors welded shut. Add the chassis stiffening to simulate that :)

I will do my best to put some laps in w/o the wing. Maybe I can maintain two lists, aero vs no aero. My camaro had aero too but since it is a premium it wasn't stuck with that hideous default ricer wing.

This looks like a fun challenge(r) Christopher. I hope I get a chance to run a few laps for this.

With PSN still down you should have plenty of time!

Lots of talk about cars and wings but I don't see any times...even if you are slow post your 3 lap times!

Well, I just tried for an hour using the Charger with no wing. Best I could do was 1:56.390. I messed with the LSD quite a bit too. No LSD is actually the most realistic feeling and can be very quick entering and exiting turns. However my ghost with the LSD has the advantage putting power down on the straights. I tried lower settings on the LSD too but that just made throttle oversteer uncontrollable. As an experiment, I tried turning on TCS=5. it is pretty obvious the game will cut throttle if you aren't moving in a perfectly straight path. It doesn't let you drift out of corners, signaling that a typical rally line just doesn't work with the physics engine. You can get the car sideways and that is fine, but trying to apply gas while going sideways is something the game just doesn't allow. In other words, I can coast around a corner and have a faster exit speed than when I drift and slingshot out of the corner.

Negative. It was a Corvette color from '76, Flame Red GM paint code 70.

But I used the Vitamin C paint chip and it seems to be a close match to Big Bad Orange (AMC color, used in the recent movie). Hugger Orange would be another good one to use as well.

Chuyler, I think the spoiler should be banned as well, if you are banning ballast. You wanted people to get the feel for these cars, and I don't believe you can do that with the spoiler.

That being said, you guys are putting up some fast times. I'm using the ds3, no spoiler, and can barely get under 2:02, with my charger.

Hey, this is a wicked challenge, and challenge is certainly the word. I have found this very tricky (probably due to just random setup and lack of rally experience). I cant give you guys a total time yet as I am still to manage 3 laps in a row without invalidating one of them but as you want times ill throw in my best lap so far.

440 r/t 220000miles plus :) only one I had. Forgot to renew engine but renewed chassis. Oil changed. 396bhp 1409kg 500pp best single lap so far 2:02:437. Still a long way off but ill keep trying.
