i have tried without spoiler and it was very hard to keep this baby on track. impossible to go under 1:57

I did get a 1:56 without the spoiler, but I wasn't able to repeat it. Getting 3 in a row would be quite a feat.

Again, whether you have the spoiler or not this is still a wicked challenge. Give it a try guys!

great, you re pretty quick whit the charger! i have sent my replay data to your e-mail so you can see the video and upload it on gtp if you want. i have also saved a couple of "best lap" whit the camaro, 1:54:6xx i can send you the replay so you can use it as ghost to improve your times, and you can send me your lap with the general. what do you think?

Hence the challenge :)

You can gain or lose 2 seconds on the sweeping right hander. Watch my video. Go slower than you think and make sure you keep the rear tires hooked up at all times. Spinning rear tires isn't fast, especially when you are going sideways.

I actually tried out the DS3 for a few laps instead of my wheel and got down to a low 1:58.xxx lol

I'll be back on the wheel tomorrow, I find the controller too easy.

Ok, just put in another half-hour. I nailed 3 laps with no wing. WOOT! Boy these felt good. Funny part is that I was happy with the first lap and was a little cautious on the 2nd lap and beat my time. 3rd lap is tough in the dark. I turned in early on a few turns and had trouble seeing the last couple turns but still managed a decent time.

No spoiler...
1. 1:56.284
2. 1:56.253
3. 1:57.116

I can't stress how important throttle modulation is. I'll walk you through the turns while my video uploads...

picture(48).php

Turn 1 (slight left just after the start/finish)
You should top out in 5th gear as you pass the start/finish. Stay to the far left on the grass. Aim for the entrance to turn 2 and brake just as you make it back on the gravel.

Turn 2 (first right hander)
Downshift to 3rd and coast around trying to stay in the grass. When you see turn 3, ease into the gas and shift to 4th as soon as you redline. Cross from the right side grass to the left side grass.

Turn 3 (left hander)
Aim for driving under the tree in the grass. Just before you hit the grass full brakes and turn hard. The rear end may slide out a little. If it comes out too much then you need to brake earlier and in a straight line to keep the rear end in check. Ease into the throttle in 3rd gear on exit, then 4th, only 50-75% throttle.

Turn 4 (uphill right hander)
There is a bump in this turn and its the primary reason you shouldn't use full throttle. You should be in 4th when you approach it. Only after you crest the bump and the car stabilizes can you go from 50% throttle to 100%. Power through 4th and into 5th as you crest the hill leading to Turn 5.

Turn 5 (sweeping downhill-uphill right hander)
This is the most difficult turn. As you crest the hill entering this turn your suspension will unload. Drop to 30% throttle to prevent rear wheelspin. When you reach the other side you can give it more throttle. When you reach the end of the downhill section of this turn and start going uphill, 0% throttle and hug the inside of the gravel. Downshift to 3rd and ease into the throttle. No more than 50% until you can see the upcoming straight. Keep to the inside grass on exit. Increase throttle to 100% and shift to 4th, doing your best to keep rear traction. If you mash the pedal the car will just drift sideways and you'll sacrifice acceleration.

Turn 6 (left hander)
There is a bump on the straight before this turn. I brake right after it. A little scandanavian flick to the right then left while still lightly on the brakes will get the nose to turn in to the hay bails. Aim to hit one of them and your car will slide right past giving you a nice straight shot for turn 7.

Turn 7 (right hand kink)
This is a bumpy section so I half-throttle 3rd gear through most of it to keep the car driving straight. You don't want to fishtail drift this section because it is uphill and you need to keep momentum. Take it slow and you'll surprise yourself.

Turn 8 (uphill left)
As you approach this turn, it doesn't seem so bad...but it is crucial to get it right. Tap the brakes just as you enter and keep light throttle in 3rd gear. Wait until the car is facing perfectly straight in the middle of the road before you give it more gas, then you can gun it through 4th and 5th. The car will basically turn itself. Let it go where it wants. Too much steering input and you'll slow yourself down.

Turn 9 (right hand hairpin)
Two methods work with this turn, depending on where the throttle puts you on the track. If you have room, try the scandanavian flick to get the car to about-face. If you are running out of braking room which happens more often than not, Turn the car in under hard braking then tap the gas pedal a few times in 2nd gear and the car will turn around. Don't mash the gas pedal on exit...drifting the turn under full throttle will not be faster. On exit, very light throttle in 2nd gear, quick shift to 3rd and full throttle to 4th.

Turn 10-11 (right - left)
Use the trees to find your braking point. Brake early so you can basically coast through turn 11 under 30% throttle. When you turn the wheel, the car will rotate itself for turn 11 so take your foot off the throttle and wait until you can see the exit then ease into the throttle.

The jumps
Get to the left of the track and cross to the right as you crest jump 1. Aim for the right side tree tops on the other side. For Jump 2, stay to the left again. When you land, downshift to 4th and lightly tap the brakes.

Turn 12 (sweeping right hander)
The goal here for me is to just stay on the dirt. Partial throttle in 4th gear and do not let the rear end slide out into a drift.

Turn 13 (final right)
This is a decreasing radius turn so it looks like you can take it faster on entry but you do not want to overshoot and run wide on exit. Use a little brake on entry then downshift from 4th to 2nd gradually. Keep 1 wheel on the grass at all times and tap the gas pedal if you need to rotate the car. When you see the gran turismo sign, hit the gas and make your way to 5th gear as you pass the start/finish line.

I hope this helps others. You just need to get a feel for how much tire slippage is acceptable. You can break traction at any speed in 5th gear but that doesn't mean you should drive the track in 5th. The rear tires will get you accelerating the quickest when they are driving straight. A little drift to rotate the car is ok when entering a turn. But you should drive perfectly straight exiting the turn.

Spoiler removed. The duke boys should've installed one because it makes the car much easier to drive and at least a second faster around the course.

here's my initial effort... not to be considered an entry:

couldnt manage to run below the 2min mark without crashing or spinning around, either my suspension set up was tight or i just suck at throtle control.... or both! :grumpy:

although i tried reducing the car's hp resulting in a more manageable car but at the expense of a speed and a longer lap time.

First off, the rules state the car has to be at least 1400kg...but it appears the lower weight of your car isn't giving you much of an advantage.

Second, why on earth would you run a suspension set to -25/-25 on dirt? Reset the suspension to default for starters. Then experiment with higher ride heights. You want the wheels to track smoothly over the bumps. If they skip and jump, you lose traction. Once your drive wheels break traction you've killed your run. You can see my charger settings at the end of my video above. I cycled through all the tuning settings.

sorry about that... i forgot to edit my post and the suspension settings photo was taken prior to adjustment done before my run...was trying to convey my initial try but not considered an entry. need to change to a different car as soon as i realize im below the wt. limit.

ill be switching to a Dodge Charger Super Bee Hemi 71 or ill follow the same car and set-up like yours.
will post my entry tomorrow.

My times

IMG_0724.jpg

1)2:02.777
2)2:03.717
3)2:00.597 (lol, best time in the dark, is also my best lap)
Total time = 6:07.091

Times with the DS3, no spoiler. sucked even harder with the wheel because i suck at counter steering with it.

how you bastards get under 2:00 is beyond me. ive tried manual shifting, and i cannot control it.

Ditch the driving line! It cripples you into thinking you should brake/gas at the wrong places. Once you stop driving with it you'll learn your way around the track better.

Manual shifting definitely helps. Downshifting gives you a little more braking and getting into a lower gear entering a turn helps rotate the car. I opted for a low braking LSD value to prevent understeer entering the turns. Oversteer entering, straight line exiting.

Watch my video to compare lines. Post your video and I'll give you some tips.

i really dont have a way to post videos. my camera takes vids in a format my computer does not like. and i know about the driving line, but i was way worse without it. i also noticed the braking is better with manual downshifting as well.

so just to set a baseline on my driving, I did three laps in a stock charger to see what i got

Total:
6:16.280

3: 2:05.031
2: 2:04.313
1: 2:06.936

seems like these are pretty good times considering the fact that its my first time with this car and that it is stock. Ill refine this more and then later ill add some upgrades.

OP: will there be a leader board for the stock car as well? I don't care much about the prize, its just for the fun to compare.

Best times so far. Stock Car. No Wing.

I don't have a leaderboard for stock cars, although I will track whether drivers chose to install a wing or not. I suggest adding everything except the supercharger and making a few runs. It looks like you are on the right track though.

im working on a new ds3 controller setup.

r2 for accel
L2 for brake
right stick for shifting.
left stick for steering.

also, not using driving line. still not beating my best time, but i am more consistent.

Yeah I will do some tuning soon to compete. I just like to see what the stock machine can do then compare it.

ok, here is my new time with my new ds3 settings. still cannot get near where you are. maybe i still spin the tires too much. ive watched your vids.

New total time: 6:06.296

and here is a nice pic just for fun.

Charger 400 R/T: 1.58.081

I'm using the DS3 and my car setup is pretty bad so i think there's plenty of room to improve. ABS 1 everything else off.

same set up as mine for the DS3 but havent got any luck!
the best i managed was 2:04 on a Charger Super Bee Hemi and the rest are just frustrating numbers :irked:
couldnt come up with a Charger 400 R/T from my UCD yet so i can try Chuyler's set up and finally post my times here..... :guilty:

Thats the setup i use for DS3 but the triggers arent that good for modulating trottle, try right stick for that.

I mispelled my car, i used a challenger, with a small spoiler 1500 kg and 400 hp, dont remember the exact numbers

I know some people swear by using the triggers. When I used the controller for GT4 I just used the default button configuration.
Left stick - steering
Right stick - throttle forward, brake backward
Left paddle - downshift
Right paddle - upshift

I use this occasionally when i'm too lazy to pull out the wheel, but I'm not competitive enough to use it online or on any serious event. My DS3 skills have gone rusty since I got the wheel.
