I to have repositioned my PS3 while a disc was in it, nothing happened. In fact I'll go try on my PS2 i dont use. Be right back.....

Edit: nope nothing loaded just fine. Even did it repeatedly.... Hmm, not going to try with the PS3. But if Sony can build a system that wont destroy discs in 2003(my systems year) why does The Xbox do it, still.....

I've moved my 360 will playing Gears, hell, I've even held it in a slanted orientation with no ill-effect. It's another one of those "some people experience it, others don't" ordeal.

After seeing what you guys said, I tryed it with my PS3 and nothing happened. Just for the hell of it, I also tryed it with my PS2s (The fat model and the Slim) and no effects with them either.

That is a much better case but wouldn't all systems be "physically" build the same. maybe 360's just spin the disc faster and its more likely to happen.

Well, yes, but I think most people tend to tilt the 360 when the game first starts up when it's spinning at 12x speeds...and when that rubs up against the tray you can surely expect disaster.

Now that I think about it, the BenQ drives that are in the 360's now have faster read/write speeds..but the speeds are moderated, unlike the original units.

Haha, I did that once I thought I could get away with it. Nope! Scratched the hell out of that disc.

Foo'! :P

Anyone know who that ridiculously hot chick is on G4?

Oh, wait...this is the wrong thread.

Answer anyway.

It seems like it should be logical to say not to move the console after the disc is in the drive, but 26 years after this entered the market you have to wonder:

And 11 years after this:

Overlooking that the disc may not be secure and at risk due to movement is excusable in the early design, but after a redesign that accompanies a motion control device, and a history of reports, you should have thought to design it with some shock buffering. I'm not saying it should be able to handle a fall or being knocked around roughly, but what that guy does in the video is far less than what a portable CD player could withstand during a jog.

The one from the Nintendo Conference or the one right now in the Sony conference?

The one right now, I'm not talking about Morgan or Kristan...I've seen them too many times to not know their names. :P

Ok, the one we see now is Alison Haislip. She is also on that show, "Future Warrior"

Be careful not to move the 360 when its on.

Some things will never change.

I bought my first XBOX360 (and The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion) from Best Buy on April 5, 2006. I remember the date because I proudly wrote 04-05-06 on both the box, and on the back of the console. Thankfully I also purchased the Product Replacement Plan, because this unit got the RROD in about four days, and it was replaced without a hassle.

Now I had my second XBOX360. This second unit lasted about two months before it also RROD'd, but that was long enough to make me have to exchange several copies of the Oblivion disc because they became unplayable due to scratches caused by no discernible movement of the system. I got my third unit, never opened the box, and sold both it and the most recent Oblivion disc to a former associate.

I have moved my PS3 with a disc in drive (forgot it was there) with no ill effects. The 360 is the only one I know of that has had complaints about it destroying discs.

I meant knocking them over while flailing about with a motion sensor game.

With Kinect, I wonder how the Xbox will cope with perhaps adults and children jumping up and down hours a week in the living room?

Video is quite long and is about typical home vibrations causing scratched discs.

Shock vibrations can cause this but I think it'd be worse with Kinect games.

"KINECT" (like yourself, I suspect many people are going to get very confused over the name)

I catch myself doing it constantly. Fixed the OP.

If that's what they announced it was apparently a mistake (are you sure that's what they said?)

I took it immediately as they got a bunch of exclusives first, ala GTAIV, with fairly significant delays for the PS3 later on down the road. I haven't touched COD:MW2 in months, so I could generally care less now. But, for other people, that's a HUGE deal.

You left out Fable III which is likely going to be a great game!

True, I completely forgot about it. The ship-to-ship combat looks pretty awesome, it seems like the world will have a lot to offer. I never dabbled with the second one, this one could bring me back in.

While they mentioned that the new 360 will finally have a swappable HDD, they didn't mention if it will support 3rd party HDD like the PS3 always has...

I'll take a stab at it and guess that they'll do the same thing that they've done with the thumb drives. They'll offer an XBOX-branded 500MB+ drive for a massive sum of money, assuring that it will work best with their system, but still give users the ability to use "normal" HDDs that aren't always guaranteed to work.

Evil? Kinda. Business savvy? Of course. Its Microsoft.

OK, well that's different than saying point of fact that the titles would be exclusive, so you might want to change that as well:

Right off the bat, Microsoft got down to business announcing that all of the upcoming Activision Call of Duty titles will not only have exclusive DLC content available on the 360 first, but the titles themselves will be exclusively available first on 360 in 2010, 2011 and 2012.

Also, seeing as the senior VP of Microsoft said the timed exclusive MW DLC would be similar to the most recent MW DLC, which has only been a one month deal, then I wouldn't label that as being huge. Based on published sales, it appears many don't even buy DLC add-ons until long after they are released. In fact, depending on how much MS paid for the one month of exclusive DLC, it may not have been the wisest of investments.

I strongly recommend you check out Fable II, it's not perfect, but it succeeds in just about all the ways you would want a game like that to succeed in. 👍

Definitely try not to judge it by the first few hours of gameplay, the story and scope of the game takes a while to get going, but it is worth the wait.

Fable III is definitely at the top of my list of 360 games to follow. 👍

Although considering how Alan Wake was on the top of my 360 wish list, and that turned out to be a bit of a disappointment, I'm going to try and not get too overly excited until it actually comes out.

Looks like Kinect Only Works When you are standing up.

According IGN, Kinect has problems with ’skeletal framing’ if you are sitting down. Whilst this may not be a huge problem whilst you are playing a game, if you were hoping to laze on the sofa and just wave your hand to fast forward a movie then you may be out of luck.

“All the cool options to grab a slider and advance through frames of a movie you are watching only work when you are on your feet.”

“Kinect, we’ve been told, has problems handling your skeletal frame while sitting. The voice commands still work, but every game we’ve seen and even simple menu navigation has to be done with you out of your seat.”

Another problem occurred when the same demonstrator was showing off the Ubisoft ‘Your Shape’ demos. Felicia Williams was the lady being scanned, once at the Microsoft press conference and then again at the Ubisoft event. Somehow in the space of a few hours she has managed to shrink two inches.

That's disappointing, but I can still move my head while playing Forza Motorsport 4 with the Fanatec and the Kinect, right?

I'd assume that Turn 10 would be fiddling with it to make that happen. Nothing is going to replace the tactile feeling of a controller or a wheel and the accuracy that gives in a racing game.

Who knows!

So far the only head-tracking we have seen for Forza was from the Kinect demo and for that you had to steer with thin-air, had auto throttle and brakes and you had to stand up for it.

At present they have not even called it FM4, simply a new title in the Forza family, for all we know it could be Kinect only!!!!!

Microsoft has issued a statement explaining the lack of "hardcore" games shown for Kinect:
http://edge-online.com/news/kinect-is-for-everyone-microsoft
"At Xbox, we're developing controller-based games for the core and Kinect titles that appeal to everyone,"
So, they are clearly shooting for a broad audience and will leave the Halos to the controller crowd.

And Desctructoid had a very short and humorous take on it.

Now officially priced at $149.99. Yeah. For that much, I'd spend the extra $50 and get a Wii. I mean, honestly. You want me to spend $250 on a the console and then another $150 on the motion control system? Yeah, I'll buy a PS3, thank you. I don't think the Kinect is going to do very well with Sony and Nintendo's Motion controller's priced lower. (Xbox with the Kinect is $400...twice as much as a Wii.)

Price is just one of the nails in the coffin. The other one is the games. I don't see a ton of games for it. Most shown at E3 are family games and, I'm sorry, I just don't see families spending $400 on an Xbox and Kinect when the Wii is half the price and already has a ton of games for it. Heck only 1 major titled even mentioned they were supporting it, and I think the only reason Turn10 is supporting it, is because Microsoft is going to make them.

Now, I should mention that Sony's Move is $50 cheaper, but since the system is $300, it's about the same price. (If you can find a system that ISN'T bundled with anything. However, With both the Wii and Xbox seeing price reductions. (did the Wii drop or increase?) It makes since that Sony will drop the price of their PS3 especially with them making money off the system. (I expect to see a $100 price drop on the system in time for Christmas.) This could mean that the Xbox would be the most expensive system with AND without the Kinect.

So...what are your thoughts? You think Microsoft is going to have a decent sales with the Kinect or do you think it's doomed before it gets going?

Lets don't start a flame war about which particular Hardware is the best.

But for me I don't really care about how kinect is really life like motion controller. But, I have to use Kevin Butlets advice though. 👍

For now I'm currently waiting for my 500GB HDD, to replace my old 80GB HDD PS3 console.

I don't....what?

What does anything you've said have to do with anything?
