Now officially priced at $149.99. Yeah. For that much, I'd spend the extra $50 and get a Wii. I mean, honestly. You want me to spend $250 on a the console and then another $150 on the motion control system? Yeah, I'll buy a PS3, thank you. I don't think the Kinect is going to do very well with Sony and Nintendo's Motion controller's priced lower. (Xbox with the Kinect is $400...twice as much as a Wii.)

Price is just one of the nails in the coffin. The other one is the games. I don't see a ton of games for it. Most shown at E3 are family games and, I'm sorry, I just don't see families spending $400 on an Xbox and Kinect when the Wii is half the price and already has a ton of games for it. Heck only 1 major titled even mentioned they were supporting it, and I think the only reason Turn10 is supporting it, is because Microsoft is going to make them.

Now, I should mention that Sony's Move is $50 cheaper, but since the system is $300, it's about the same price. (If you can find a system that ISN'T bundled with anything. However, With both the Wii and Xbox seeing price reductions. (did the Wii drop or increase?) It makes since that Sony will drop the price of their PS3 especially with them making money off the system. (I expect to see a $100 price drop on the system in time for Christmas.) This could mean that the Xbox would be the most expensive system with AND without the Kinect.

So...what are your thoughts? You think Microsoft is going to have a decent sales with the Kinect or do you think it's doomed before it gets going?

Granted I don't see either Kinect or Move being a success, you only have to buy 1 Kinect for multiple people to play, with the Wii and Move you have to buy a controller for every person. This winds up being more expensive to buy for say 3 Move/Wii controllers than the whole Kinect setup.

I also don't see Sony dropping the price of the PS3 $100, maybe $50 but even that is a stretch.

I think the Kinect could be revolutionary, actually. MS has shown off some pretty awesome stuff...but then some "WTF?" stuff like playing Forza using the Kinect. But I think that $150 is a smidge to much for a revolution. I think when all three systems get down to the same price, we'll see who wins. Ironically, I think at that point, Nintendo will have the cheapest Motion controller.

And the existing thread on Kinect was too difficult to find and post in?

Please do not start threads without searching first, I've merged these two this time.

That way you would have seen that they price was confirmed in the original thread a week ago, also feel free to discuss Kinect but also be aware that any flame-baiting will be dealt with via the AUP.

thanks for the move and stuff. I should have looked on the second page, I guess. :P But I'm not trying to flame battle.

And, actually, if you consider that to play 4 player games on any of the Motion control systems, Xbox ends up being the cheapest at $400.

Unless you have you thread count per page set to less than 25 it was on the exact same page.

Not anymore it doesn't.

The tech specs have been released.....

Kinect Technical Specifications

Horizontal field of view: 57 degrees
Vertical field of view: 43 degrees
Physical tilt range: 27 degrees
Depth sensor range: 1.2m - 3.5m

Data Streams
320x240 16-bit depth @ 30 frames/sec
640x480 32-bit colour@ 30 frames/sec

Tracks 20 joints per active player
Ability to map active players to Xbox LIVE Avatars

Audio System
Xbox LIVE party chat and in-game voice chat (requires Xbox LIVE Gold Membership)

Move and Kinect may both have had poor marketing strategies. Move's price and scattered components was a bad move. Kinects abandonment of hard core games is also bad. Move's game usage will be better than Wii's motion plus but its other issues may give it a hard time.

After seeing the game Tumble and Time Crisis Razing Storm I am looking forward to what else they have in store. But with any game that uses a controller you have to buy more for addition players :sly:

My E3 Review:

I didn't get to see Microsoft's presentation, but I heard that they showed off pretty much what people expected and then tossed in "Forza Preview" for kicks. While the Kinect seems pretty awesome, one has to remember that Microsoft hasn't had much luck with releasing bug-free hardware, so there IS the chance that the Kinect camera might also have some issues at first. However, I'm sure those bugs will get fixed an in few months, it'll be great. Except...it's only two players. And it costs $150. That's a little pricy for a new motion control system.

There also seems to be some half-truths and lies slipped in there, as well. The Ferrari 458 footage from "Forza Preview" probably ISN'T how Forza 4 will look. It is a pre-rendered car using a technology that even the twice-as-fast PS3 would have issues running. So, unless Microsoft was hiding a new system behind the curtain, that was a bit of a stretch just to show off the Kinect more than the game. Another thing, like with Nintendo and Sony, most of the stage demos feature pre-rendered animations. These can make some of the motion-control scenes make them seem a bit more 1:1 than they actually are. Miscrosoft's Kinect seemed to be VERY smooth...smoother than Sony's Move and the Wii, which makes me skeptical as to if that is how the actual Kinect will behave or not. Also...$150 for a two player motion-control system? Really? And doesn't the "Kinect" look a lot like the Playstation Eye or is it my imagination.

On to Sony. They, too showed a lot of games we expected. Infamous 2, Killzone 3, Metal Gear Solid Rizing, Gran Turismo 5 and others. It was a good presentation...except the whole Move demonstrations. That seemed to kill the buzz. But all that was washed away with trailers for Gran Turismo 5 and the announcement of the return of Sweet Tooth and the Twisted Metal franchise. Amongst the Sony booths, a couple more Sony titles were shown, including Motorstorm: Apocolypse. (which does anyone know if that's Motorstorm 3 or 4?) However Sony's presentation was lacking the biggest titles that people wanted to see: The Last Guardian, Grand Theft Auto 5, Resistance 3...all missing. But that's all right 'cause there were plenty of other big titles to drool over.

Nintendo ended the press conferances and they brought a lot to the table with a new family game pack thingy, Epic Disney, and the return of a lot of old faces including Mario, Kirby, Donkey Kong and we can't forget Link. ('Cause Zelda's the princess's name. Link's the guy.) But the thing that stole the show was the "New" Nintendo 3DS. It is a brand new system, but packaged in the DS box, sorta-speak. Everyone at the show loved this new little handheld. My favorites, however were still Okamiden and Superscribblenaughts which, by the way, won't be on the 3DS.

Ubisoft unvealed a few cool titles but I think EA overshowed them with thier sports series and Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit from Burnout creators Critereon Games. Everyone seemed impressed with the new Hot Pursuit game. Although, the aspect of unlocking powerups as you progress is new and a little interesting, the fact that you can now do a career as a cop is freakin' epic. Although, I'm sure there will be achievements/Trophies for completing both careers and collecting all the cars. Speaking of which. It would seem that the cars for each side are different variations of each other or similar cars: Like for the racer you might unlock a Koineggseg CCX but in Pursuit mode you'd unlock the CCR or something.

Other games like Driver: San Francisco have recieved mixed reviews. One one side, it's cool to have an open world enviroment with 100+ real world cars, but the whole Shift thing seems odd and I think I'd rather just jack someone's SRT4 rather than shift into it.

I think in the end, Nintendo had the best showing, but there were a lot of good games for all three systems shown. (Like Halo Reach and Crackdown 2 for Xbox 360.) It'll be interesting to see what GamesCom and TGS bring.
