One thing is for certain; It certainly isn't something negative, as you seem to be making it. This is a great feature implementation, especially considering the competition's approach.Oh of course, but it means that their new stuff which they sort of make money off is less significant than their old stuff...and I'm pretty sure that for Microsoft that wasn't the point.
Still, if I had actual X360 games I would perhaps buy a XOne now but I didn't catch all the info on it. It only comes 'this holiday' (so Christmas) right? FM4 would still be the FM game for me if that 400+ total that came up in the FM6 trailer is the final number. Not sure if I know any other X360 games of interest, and the only XOne games I'd get at this point are the next-gen sports games, so buying a next gen console most primarily for that would be silly.
EDIT: Also how would its DLC work these days? If I did get it I'd want everything it had to offer.
Can you imagine how awesome RTS' would be on this!
Or you could play a FPS with virtual enemies running around your house! I think Oculus just died...
Hololens: Trippiest..thing..ever
Except its only on Xbox one.
Of course it's not negative; it's a big new thing! But it seems more popular than the new stuff. Which as I said probably wasn't Microsoft's point. And I was just explaining what my situation with an XOne would be now.One thing is for certain; It certainly isn't something negative, as you seem to be making it. Backward compatibility this gen for free is quite huge honestly. Very exciting news.Well. That was a really, really good press conference. I don't think backward compatibility is that big of a deal, but it's a very good feature none the less. They showed a lot of interesting games, a good amount of gameplay, and overall, they had really nice pacing. No fluff either. So yeah, very well done.
It seems a bit obvious to me, that there was a boat load of attention for it, so I would say its popularity is definitely warranted, and that was actually what they have probably foresaw. If not, then they could have just released it as a patch some random time, and not wait for E3. I see this as something great, albeit a bit late for me as I got rid of my collection when I got my Xbox One.Of course it's not negative; it's a big new thing! Also Hololens looked great, and Minecraft looks pretty much ideal for it. But what else could we see it with?

That's just the thing though, and that is why its an extremely convenient and welcome feature. Some people don't have the space, and/or don't feel like juggling around a few consoles.I don't see the problem about BC. For an example, I have a PS3 and 4. I don't mind the PS4 not being backwards compatible, 'cause I have a bloody PS3. I didn't mind the PS3 not being backwards compatible, 'cause I have a bloody PS2. If I want to play my old games, I can do it on the old console. If you already have the old console and games for it, you don't need backwards compatibility. It's a nice feature, but I think people are placing far too much weight on it.
And don't even dare throw the "I don't have space for another console" arguement at me!

Because everybody is exactly like you right? BC is huge for many many people.I don't see the problem about BC. For an example, I have a PS3 and 4. Not only that, but for people like me who got rid of everything all together, I now have access to my digital library atleast.Exactly. Do you think I really feel like stuffing a PS1, PS2, PS3, PS4, original xbox, 360, X1, PC, and all the games, wires, accessories for each system into my entertainment center? Nope.
BC is always good news. Especially when it is free.
Keiji Inafune's studio Comcept (Mega Man/Mighty No. 9) and Metroid Prime's Armature are working on the Xbox One exclusive ReCore.

Yes, that is exactly what I'm saying. You're talking to one of those people, right now. I live in a small Studio-like apartment, and my bed takes up about 60 Percent of the available space. A computer desk, a book shelf, and a stand for my T.V( that is actually a small cabinet I use to hold little goodies and socks and chonies and whatnot) takes up the rest. So you can go throw that little idea out the window, now.Are you telling me that some people who can afford the latest gaming consoles can't fit something the size of your standard blu-ray player into their room? Complete and utter BS.
Exactly the point, no one wants to go fumbling around and disconnecting all the current hardware, moving it out of the way, and connecting old hardware, just to play a game for an hour. Thats why its extremely convenient, and wanted. Lazyness? It's far from that, and more leaning on just plain time wasting and unnecessary. Especially when you dont have much time to begin with. I'd rather not dig through the one and only closet I have, thats full of other things for my apartment, just so I can go play Hexen on my PS1.It might not be convenient, but I don't believe for a second that someone literally don't have space for it. If anything, you can always just not have all your consoles ready for use. 'Cause let's be honest. No one is going to constantly be switching between that many consoles. And taking an old console out and connecting it takes all of 2 minutes. But hey. Laziness has become the norm today, I guess.
And on that basis alone, it is going to become a great enough feature. Necessity? no.Again. Backwards compatibility is very good. But my impression is that for a large part of the community, it seems to be mostly about it being convenient, rather than it being a necessity. I can understand the importance of it during the first year of the consoles life, as games are in short supply during that timeframe. But now? Nah, I don't get it.
