I think next year will be Nintendo's big year. Either they will make a traditional console to truly compete on the merits of their games. Or, they will get out of the hardware business and focus on software, like SEGA did.

I may be completely wrong, but it's reasonable. Nintendo's momentum, and probably stock, is not climbing.

Please stop saying things like this.

Why? (Besides being slightly off topic but not enough to transform this E3 discussion into a 2014 E3 discussion.). I'm watching Pach Attack episodes on the GameTrailers app, and Nintendo leaving the hardware market is a shared thought by others besides myself.

Why would they do that though? Sure, the Wii U is off to a rocky start but all of their eggs aren't in one basket. They still dominate the handheld market with ease, and there's plenty of money from the Wii sales.

And comparing them to Sega doesn't make any real sense either as Sega had a whole mess of problems that contributed to them getting out of the hardware side of things.

You're right, I should've said "console" and not generalize "hardware". The rumor of EA dropping development on Wii 2 says EA isn't making [enough] money on that platform. If Nintendo were to lose all 3rd party games, what do they have? Top tier franchises are Mario (and spin offs) and Zelda. There is a handful of lower level franchises. Are these Nintendo exclusives enough to drive sales of the WiiU?

According to Pach, the Wii had $100 in profit per unit, while the WiiU only has about $10. The WiiU is not selling very well. Yes, Nintendo has a massive nest egg of money, they can afford losses. But they would double software sales. If Nintendo signed exclusively to SONY or Microsoft, that would pretty devastating to the other. I think if they did go exclusive, it would be SONY, because while Microsoft does great in the US, SONY does better on a global basis (correct?). However, that issue of how the PlayStation came to be, might be a gaping wound.

As Pach had said, as long as Nintendo's CEO and Yamauchi are in the majority, they will maintain the same business model.

This holiday season is pretty important for WiiU. They are facing a MASSIVE mountain with XBOX ONE and PS4 coming out this year. With Nintendo not having an event at this E3, it says Nintendo doesn't have much to offer. If a company does not sell product, they don't make money and eventually go out of business.

I know my thoughts are kinda scattered, but I firmly believe Nintendo needs to do something to remain relevant. They are not truly participating in the next generation of gaming with the WiiU.

That, or Nintendo won't allow them utilize their practices as effectively as they'd like. And how many games have EA put into it, really?

There was an article Nevermind, that was Activision with the sour grapes attitude. In any case, I won't pretend that them possibly losing EA isn't a big deal because it most certainly will be but at the same time is it Nintendo's fault that EA doesn't want to invest the time and energy into making a unique title?

They were more than enough to drive Wii sales and look how that turned out.

While I can definitely see the advantages you'd think Nintendo doing that would have, they'd no longer have control over the unique experiences that their own hardware can provide. Nintendo, perhaps ignorantly so, don't peddle their consoles with the thought of them being visually-driven, they focus on gameplay and story elements first and foremost.

Which are usually tied to their hardware of choice.

The problem with that is Nintendo already announced the Wii U last year and them deciding not to have the normal means of a conference in no way infers they have nothing to offer, in fact the entire reason they're doing things differently is because they want to present their new titles coming to the 3DS and Wii U more intimately.

I know my thoughts are kinda scattered, but I firmly believe Nintendo needs to do something to remain relevant. They are not truly participating in the next generation of gaming with the WiiU.

How is that? I'm not sure what you're implying, but there's more to a console than raw throughput.

I think, Dave, and I am trying to say this with all the care in the world, Patcher is just a man. A man who knows how to read financial reports. He only reads the financials of a company and makes a 50/50 prediction based on those numbers. Patcher himself has spelled doom and gloom for Nintendo since the Gamecube, but each time, the company has made it through each generation.

Besides, sales might slump now, but as Terronium-12 said, Nintendo has some major projects coming down the line that will help sales of the WiiU. Having a price cut of any sort within Christmas of 2014 would spell disaster.

Sony is putting up the press conference on PSN after!

Every day for the last few days, a few times a day, SONY is testing their UStream feed. All it shows is a 10,9,8,7... countdown. It looks like SONY is trying to cover as many bases as possible! YouTube live, blog(s), UStream, and probably a few others.

Spike TV and Micro$oft can SUCK IT!!! Microsoft's shenanigans is going to bite them in the ass HARD this gen.
