Beware choosing Pajaris livery on the Yaris if you use cockpit view 😅.

Really enjoying this, all the 'new' cars are great and the sounds on the Rally1 cars (even though I thought they were pretty good before!) are now mega. The off throttle sounds in particular seem authentic across all three, and align with what I've experienced in real life.

Latvia & Poland are both good new additions, I think I prefer the feel of Latvia more so far but have barely scratched the surface of either rally at this point.

Couple of other things I've noticed, mostly good;
  • Crowd noise - I feel like, contrary to what someone else said, this actually seems more prominent now, especially in replays. I was doing Sweden this morning and can't remember the air horns / cheering / general ambiance being so loud in the mix. I like this though, makes it feel more authentic.
  • WRC points system - just like real life this system is complicated. Nice to see it replicated in the game, but I think if anything it highlights how it really doesn't make sense. Think I'll shift to playing career mode WRC rounds on full length as the primary leg / final leg isn't really that engaging otherwise (on a medium event the first 2 stages are the primary / second 2 are final / final stage is power stage).
  • Monte - I can't figure out if it's meant to be like this or not, but as the first round of the Career mode I've had this event appear in Spring conditions rather than the typical Winter ones. Perhaps more reflective of the real-event these days? Or part of the weather randomisation...that said this is a season change?
  • Events - it definitely feels like there's new events scattered through career mode now. Not sure if this is all a bit of a placebo effect though  Intrigued to see if the now redundant Mexico & Estonia rallies get used elsewhere across the season...and if Estonia will still appear as part of the Asphalt Championship.
Looking forward to diving into this more, and getting stuck into the clubs again. It's been awhile ha!

Yeah I must say I also noticed more prominent crowd noise, particularly as I use chase came, seems more noticeable.

Expect one of my Showcase videos soon :sly:
Well, not today, because both Twitch editing and Youtube rendering are not functioning well both last night and today  Hoping for tomorrow :(

I reeeeeeeeeaaaaally need an Elgato or something like that :ill:

Didn't get long with the game last night, but jumped straight into the '24 Puma so I could hear the (glorious) ALS sounds! Did a short stage in Poland and Latvia just to get a quick feel for them. Poland was probably my least favourite location in DR2 (because I am always crashing there!), hopefully I fare better in EA WRC.

Looking forward to trying the Rally2 Yaris tonight and then I'd like to do a back-to-back with the '23 and '24 Rally1 Yaris to see how different they feel.

Also - and I'm not actually bothered about the cosmetic stuff - but seems like a few more weeks to unlock more bits in the current rally pass.

Intentional.

Monte barely had any snow/ice this year.

Nice. Perhaps wishful thinking, but it'd be great if it could switch year after year to add some variety to career mode, but I suspect that's more complicated than it sounds.

Weather was the first step, maybe Seasons in the future, though with Career having a calendar year it would be weird to have a Summer Monte in January.

Yeah, just switching between Spring and Winter would work for Monte. Maybe on a season by season basis. Granted, that's quite a specific to a singular event...unless we start having no-snow versions of Sweden from time to time

It'd be pretty amazing to be able to run gravel versions of the two winter rallies and full snow versions of the gravel events 😍 We can dream.

Loving the update/DLC so far, exciting times with more to come!

You laugh but that's one of the reasons why they moved it to Umea from Varmland, lack of snow.

That would be amazing, perhaps the next evolution of the seasons concept will push it a bit further like this. Might not be terribly high on the features priority though.

I’ve thought about this before - I’d LOVE to be able to play Scandia in the summer months.

And an icy Croatia might make it a bit more interesting, and Japan for that matter would be pretty insane with ice and snow.

You can do snow/ice on several non-winter events can’t you - I’ve definitely done it in Chile because that’s the closest we have to Wales! I haven’t checked to see if it can be done on all of them - but I suppose it’d be far harder to program doing it the other way round, ie taking the snow and ice away from Sweden or Scandia and leaving you with a gravel rally through the forests.

Visually you can yes, it just doesn't seem to affect much, if anything, physically beyond it being a wet rally. I know it would take a lot of effort and work but having the tarmac stages behave more like Monte Carlo in winter and proper snow cover on winter events on typically gravel rallies. Not sure it would be realistic to do all that work in the midst of building the new rallies and what not but we can dream.

Varmland is now a Summer rally in ERC
Would be awesome to see ERC content in the game in the future. We have some Varmland stages in game already, plus Estonia, Latvia, Poland, we have a stage from the Zlin region for the Czech Barum rally, Rally Serras de Fafe uses some of the Portugal WRC stages, Islas Canarias will be developed for the 2025 game/expansion release. Almost all the cars have been modelled, would be a great excuse to add the Clio Rally3 and Corsa Rally4, plus Rali Ceredignon, Rally Rome and Rally Hungary.

Easy, right? 😅

Defo not in any way easy, but doing this kind of thing would massively boost the amount of variety in the game without having to create new stages from scratch.

I’d love to have an ERC livery pack, even if it’s only so I can drive Jon’s car.

Admittedly not a dev or someone who's dabbled in UE directly, but on paper it does seem a fair bit easier to implement icy surfaces this time around. I know there's a couple of variations for the Saint-Léger stage (I can't remember if it was a weather/time factor or the short/full version) as the ice on that road can start and end a couple hundred yards further down or up depending on what you run... it's definitely caught me out before!

It's certainly not the level of precision they were operating on for DR 2's Col de Turini wherein the middle of the ascent/descent would have black ice patches in specific places (shaded sections for example). For WRC '23 (now '24) I would've thought you could calculate altitude markers on a route and have the surface transition at those points (like a paint tool), then squeeze that change into the pace-notes for the winter versions. It does seem like a question of time constraints and desire (as in, if we worked on this how many people would actually "enjoy" it).

Actual ice on Corsica makes me feel queasy at the mere thought of it...

Not been on the new locations that much yet cos I've been on controller downstairs instead of the rig but the few stages I've been on I think are really good. Some of the Latvian ones, you can get some proper speed on ( until it goes wrong lol )
I noticed the in car audio for the Escort Cosworth sounds better, you can hear the popping on the overrun nicely. And other cars seem to sound a bit better too.
I did notice some odd glare from heavy snow at night, a bit too much but overall I think the game has improved a bit
