Glue dries fast, one of the elbows on the right monitor stand is turned down and the result was a visible arm.

still a work in progress, but coming along nicely. the thing is rock solid and monitors are very stable. the wood blocks are there temporarily so when I remove a side monitor there is no weight shift.

Couldn't you put everything in a single post instead of 5 in a row?

How much did you spend total on the PVC piping?

Now that its finally done iw anted to post a pic for you all. Took cues from a little bit of everything I researched on the web. Thanks to all.

For mine at least, around $90. You can find pictures of it in this topic. I have since added a keyboard/mouse arm that I haven't taken pictures of yet.

Thanks. I may go to the hardware store this weekend and try to price things out a bit further now that I know it's worth it.

Okay guys, I'm very much interested in trying to build a rig like slow eddie and simul8r's. My only concern is I'm a large guy, 6' 3" and about 290 pounds or so... I know I can adjust for my height by making a few changes to the design and extending it, But I'm mostly curious if the rig can handle my weight over time, or if I should look for another design? Any suggestions from you who have made one already or have a similer build to myself that have made one? Thanks!

I bought a game racer rig before I saw these :(
My friend though was going to buy a rig until I showed him these posts. We built one for him. Where we were concerned about the weight / rigidity issue we filled the pipes with building cement (sand and cement for bricklaying). It makes the Tubes solid and gives them more strength. Adds quite a bit of weight though. You need to block off one end of the Pipe. We used some heavy duty polythene sheet pulled tight over the end and taped up. We mixed the cement quite runny so we could fill the pipe without getting air gaps. Stand the pipes upright on the blocked off ends and fill them with cement. Leave them a good while like this for the cement to dry. We thought about filling all the tubes but in the end just did the seat mount pipes and the longest uprights. After this we did a weight check. If we had filled all the pipes we wouldnt have been able to move it!!! When we then drilled the seat mounts we found it best to start on the PVC tube with a normal drill. Then Switch to a masonry drill bit to drill the solid cement inner.
We are both tradesmen so had the tools and cement "Kicking about" If you have to buy these extra though they will up the cost by about £20-30 for sand, cement and a masonry drill bit.

Ps Filling the seat tubes also gives the advantage that you can really tighten the seat down without crushing the Pipes :)

What about building a stand to be used with a standard living room recliner with a GT3rs & CSP? Any plans for this sort of stand?

From the rig I've built with tips from this thread, you can make a pretty good "recliner rig" by using the front portion of this setup, deleting everything aft of the "T"s used to make the seat structure. In place of the seat, run two tubes from the vertical T's used to hold up the wheel, and slide those under the recliner for stability.

My rig, as currently assembled:

I'm a fairly tall individual, so I modified the steering wheel holder to get it higher without affecting the seat-to-pedal length. I did this by adding 45 degree couplers and going vertical with the "H"-section SlowEddy has in the plans. Depending on your comfort level and the recliner being used, just lengthen the pipe off the top of the 45 degree couplers to adjust the height of the wheel holder.

Additionally, you could put a "I" post in the center of the front pedal spreader to keep the structure from tipping forward.

I used 3 1/2" - 4" hose clamps to attach the wood panels to my structure. They're strong enough to hold things in place, and don't look as nasty as the fence u-bolts. Just cut or drill a slot in the board, thread the strap through and secure it to the pipe.

this rig is awesome...can't believe you haven't stamped and sold this thing! I'm working on a NASCAR roll cage mod to it, i'll post pics when its completed!!!! thanks for the inspiration!

Does anyone know the lenght of the inclinated side tube for the gear box?

I'll start mine but I couldn't find this measurement.

Thanks in advance.

Might sound lazy, but anyone have a list of how much of all i need? Like how many foots of pvc pipes? And how many 90°elbows do i need? Etc

I started mine yesterday and it is almost completed. I bought things considering doing a project but I changed it a little and now I need one extra 45º elbow. I'll buy it this week and finish the project next weekend.

Didn't need to glue it. The parts and the final cockpit are very solid.

Then I'll have to paint it matte black and apply CF vinil. Also need the mdf/wood.

Now I'm also looking for a fiberglass seat. I may have found one.

It's looking great, thanks for the plans, Eddy! I'll post pics when everything is done.

Mind putting up a shoppinglist? ;) i really suck calculating with foots and inches :S

I'll do that tomorrow! But my project is a little different in the front part. A little improved, in my opinion.

EDIT:

Mine's has the back of Eddy's project and front of Simul8r's project, basically, but I put two more tee's in front to hold the mdf/wood so I can put a TV monitor, the wheel and a mouse pad. Plus the keyboard next to it.

For all of the sizes and the complete list of parts go to post #2. I also want to add that I went with this design and it is rock solid and I love it.
