I'm going to dig in to this soon and check it out. What all did the update change besides the commander creation? Do you ever really see your commander? I've been going in spurts with ED, I'll play for a month or so pretty heavily then take a break.

You do, especially with the new interior views. You can literally control you ship using Interior views like the pics Moglet posted. Mainly this update is about multi crew, more on that in post # 408. Also in this patch are improved textures everywhere, planet surfaces, more detail on stations ( really noticeable when you are flying through the slot), and better audio too. I think the non-flashy thing is the most important....the game runs so much better now, barely any lag when bringing up the galaxy map, system map. Frame shifts are also shorter now, so are transitions between normal and super cruise. The game is just silky smooth now. Also the Dolphin was added, which is a new light class passenger ship with good internals for customizing it how you wish. It can also make a good explorer or smuggler from what I understand, 36ly jump range too.

I forgot about the Dolphin. I did a quick search and it's available to buy a couple of jumps from where I am. I'll get one tonight after GTS beta racing. I like the look of it.

I bought one, so far I love it. I just engineered the Frame Shift Drive with a grade 5 mod last night, I'm just a hair under 36ly now, a very respectable jump range. I could pull more out of it but I don't think it will be necessary. I bought A-rated thrusters for it too but still need to see Professor Palin for the Grade 5 Dirty Drive tuning then I'll pick up a VIP passenger and head out on a passenger mission.

I do not own the Beluga or the Orca passenger ship, they honestly don't appeal to me that much but I really like the Dolphin so far, it's a fun ship to fly.

With these ship names now, it's super easy to tell who will be "wanted" in your contacts list, before you even scan them. "unspeakable nightmare", "bloody doom", etc. Basically any ship that sounds like it was named by a 13yr old picking out a name for a band they are starting, will be a wanted ship.

I customized my commander, that's kind of cool I guess. It looks like the same old mission board, I really wish they would come up with something new for that. That's a part of the game that's severely lacking in creativity. The game does run a lot smoother, I enjoy that.

Also, there's still no challenge for me in my Fed Vette, at all. My shields rarely ever drop one ring. I kind of hope when these Thargoids come out, they are a challenge. I really doubt they will be though, last year when they first come out with the engineers people were throwing a fit because the NPC's were "too tough". I thought it made the game way more fun and challenging, especially running a trade ship.

Still waiting for the PS4 release here :indiff:
I'm looking to get the Thrustmaster Hotas 4 for this, but I'm not sure yet how I can comfortably use it on my couch.

Lol, a dinner tray maybe? If you have a lazy boy style chair, you could make a couple of U shaped mounts out of some MDF that fits over the arm rests. Or, if you prefer the err, stick between your legs, instead of off to the right, you could make a rig a bit like the one on the attached picture. Only make it so you sit on it with a mounting plate forward of your thigh gap to attach the stick too.

Now all I need is a pre order link on the PSN and a pack of cards.

It is available to pre order on the PSN. £19.99 for the standard version of Elite Dangerous and £39.99 for the deluxe version with Horizons and a commander pack which has a collection of items to customise your ship.

I peordered the digital pack. Reeeeaaally looking forward to this game.

I watched tons of youtube videos over the last year or so, for satifaction and to prepare myself.
I highly recommend to check out CMDR Chaos Wulff's last "From zero to hero" season and CMDR Codger's "Elite Adventure", aswell. Both are very informative and entertaining.

Codger's Elite Adventure: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLfWbIi9YGRbdxeiOWS9Pkxnxp4FboSQm6

It's happening!

Full digital version pre-ordered.

I'm really hoping this hits the spot that NMS failed to do and also brings back lots of nostalgia from playing it on the BBC Electron in my youth (1984 - damn I'm old).

Pro tip. Hit the tutorials first and practice docking. A lot.

I spent my first night with Elite Dangerous just practicing take offs and landings, I was really horrible at first, comically bad. I've played plenty of flight simulators and this game has one of the steepest learning curves I have ever encountered. It's sim-heavy with a whopping dollop of Sadomasochism, grueling in the beginning, Draconian in it's enforcement of space laws, where death is the answer for most of your crimes (in most cases). If you're lucky you'll only get a bounty on your head. But once you emerged from the chasm of that deep, dark, dank learning curve, you are victorious; it's a very rewarding feeling when the training wheels first come off and you get to experience the vast freedom this game offers.

In order to prepare myself for the PS4 version I've given up my custom controls in favour of default controller settings which match Xbox one settings.

Update. Elite Dangerous is now visible on the what's Hot page of the PSN. Granted you have to tab across twice to see pre orders but at least casuals browsing can see it easily now.

2.4 update- Thargoids Return, new types of weaponry and armor, looks like we will be fighting them too, let the alien battles commence.

Today we’re excited to announce that Elite Dangerous 2.4 The Return will launch Quarter 3 of 2017, and you will be in direct conflict with our insectoid friends. These fearsome creatures are unlike anything you’ve come across before in Elite Dangerous, meaning that you’ll have to discover new ways to fight, work together, and defend against their new types of weaponry and armor.

PS4 Pre Release Live stream this evening at 7 PM.

It's the Pro version which has performance or quality graphic options. The PS4 standard version will be live streamed on the 27th for people who haven't made their mind up yet. They go though the control options, Trophy's and Ed cocking up. Everything looks very good and nothing seems missing at all from the PC version except the specific PC type stuff.

Well I finished Mass Effect Andromeda, and I'm 96% complete overall, going to start another playthrough but first, it's time to return to Elite. After a month off, I missed the piloting part which you can't do in Mass Effect. I also need to check in and see how the PS4 release is going, hope everyone is enjoying it.

It's downloading, as I type this, on my PS4. Still one day and 17 hours and 49 minutes until it's playable though...... :ouch:

There's a cg in for bringing Rares to Lave Station at the moment. You never know, it might be possible to get in on it once the PS4 version is live...

My steam version is 25GB. The PS4 version is 15GB. I wonder if the day one patch is 10GB?

I'm not playing it at midnight, work, but I'm quite interested in playing in open just to see all them gold sidewinders crashing into the station, going though the letterbox sideways, unside down or backwards, landing in the wrong landing pad, landing backwards in the right pad, forgetting to lower the landing gear and then boosting instead. Oh wait, I'm remembering all the stuff I did.

Seriously new players. Go to training mode and practice docking before the servers go live.

aaaww ok thanks Fryto that sucks :( I was thinking about getting the ps4 flight stick and playing with my ps4 buds but I have it on the pc with head tracking and a okish flight stick and a button box + its runs sweet in 2k @ well over 100 fps I'm just to lazy to relearn all new controls the keyboard would have really helped:( and after watching ObsidianAnt new vid I think il pass and wait to see what the community thinks of it.
