. The precedent is now set that teams can go to the FIA and accuse each other of copying designs. Now every car must be picked apart to ensure they are subjectively different enough to be considered ‘their own design’

Wasn't that the Boomer end of the world in 2007?

Which means if a certain design proves to be successful, no other team can copy it to try and close the gap.

Or... teams can't selectively share CAD to their own customers advantage.

This might very well be the end of the sport, because any team that gets a jump start on design basically has their lead protected by the regulations

The token system says/said "hi". Also, evidence of CAD sharing isn't the same as coming up with the same design.

Every team could have done that at any time. This sets no new precedent in that regard.

Now every car must be picked apart to ensure they are subjectively different enough to be considered ‘their own design’.

Not really. It didn't have to happen in this case, for example. Mercedes gave RP the drawings and the parts legally. It was similarly easy for the FIA to find that RP's 2020 rear brake duct differed only marginally from that part and that RP could not have avoided using knowledge gained from the Mercedes design to make it so.

Which means if a certain design proves to be successful, no other team can copy it to try and close the gap.

Nope. F1 teams have always copied other designs. The crux here is that this wasn't a copy, it was a reproduction from CAD.

End of the sport etc. etc., here we go.

I don't get the penalty, they lose all their points but get to keep the Ducts as they are, it sends a mixed message and it's obvious why other teams are not happy.

Just before quali and it seems Hulk's car has some issues again. Coincidence or conspiracy?

Anyways good quali!

Edit: panic for nothing ;) Solved! Good to see Hulk fast in Q1

What happened to Stroll? Seems that he only set a time in the last minute.

edit: Bad for Kvyat, good for Russell

Russell in the Williams is a great thing to see, the car might not be mid-pack just yet but it does look planted. Hope to see him bring that car up the ranks this season.

It looks planted because they put a barn door on the rear wing.

He is talented though, he needs a better car

I wonder if Seb's sand bagging, maybe there's some sub conscious resentment at being fired off by Ferrari? I think he's on his holdidays!

I think this quote from Far Cry 3 summarizes F1 perfectly after everything we've seen this season and the past 5 years:

"Did I ever tell you what the definition of insanity is? Insanity is doing the exact... same ****ing thing... over and over again expecting... **** to change..."

On a side node Hulk P3!

Roo
Apparantly "Jim Clarke" took 3 pole positions at Silverstone.

Yes, facepalm for the graphics intern.
