engine rebuild

Alright got a quick question, I want to get chevy 350 engine kit. Does that come with everything that the engine needs? I saw someprices and it was like only 500 dollars or so. But yet a new 350 costs about 1000 to 1500 dollars. Do you really save that much if you build the engine yourself?

Well it matters on what you want. Some kits come with the Engine, wires, etc and some come with just the engine with some exceptions (throttle bodies etc..). It all depends on what you want IMO...

If your going to rebuild your own engine, don't forget about machine shop costs. I'm sure you'll want to have the block and heads flow tested, checked for cracks, very possibly some milling and /or boring will be necesary.Since it is a chevy motor you will need the valve guides redone.Have the valve job done by a machine shop, proper valve grinding is an art.

Also, it depends on the "kit" you buy, some are gasket kits, some are "bottom end" kits that just have the crank, rods, pistons & main7 rod bearings.
Others are complete "PRO " kits that have everything except the accessories ( pulleys, water pump, etc.).
So it really matters what you mean by KIT.
If you don't have any "leftovers" from another engine , you'd probably be better off getting a "CRATE" engine.

if you BUILD IT yourself, yeah, it saves you lotsa money. by building it, I MEAN it. not just buying the parts to build it, but put it together yourself. but of you dont, the savings you get would be little...
