Engine Swaps

The V6 from an NSX into an S2000
Viper V10 in a 300C
Viper V10 in RAM 1500 4x4
SVT Mustang Cobra or even the GT 5.4L V8 in Mustang GT
Legacy 3.0R Flat-6 in Impreza WRX-STi
Any Mitsubishi 4G63 in the Pajero Rally Raid
Lexus SC430 V8 in a Toyota Tacoma, Supra, Corolla Levin,
RB Series Inline 6 in 240SX and the list goes on and on.

No! I don't think PD should ever go down that road, this game offers enough in terms of variety to keep everybody happy, maybe just refine the tuning/mods part to give more options. Gran Turismo is supposed to celebrate the beauty of how automobiles came to the market, not some wild zoo of hybrids racing around.

In real life, I'm actually cool with swapping, I'm in the process of stripping down my S13 to prep it for an LSx engine. I'm gonna guesstimate 3 years until completion.

YES!!! why??? Because it's a GAME!!! Let our imaginations run WILD, i say!!! It should not be about RESTRICTIONS & LIMITS & "You can't do this.". Or "You can't do that.". PD should learn the lesson of what happened to the NBA Live series. Sloppy programmers & poor quality control & too much "sitting on their backsides 'coz they're King of the Hill & doin' nothing.". NBA2K anyone? *SIGH* PD, don't become another EA.

I would love to see REAL WORLD SWAPS. You know, stuff that has been proven to work already.

1.8T from a Mk4 Golf GTI into a Mk1 GTI for example. An amazing real life swap.

How about changing the position of the engine?

Then we could re-create the legendary Honda Del Sol LM racing car from GT2 💡

Unfortunately, games are, by definition, restrictive. They have rules!
The important thing is the illusion of freedom (and / or the distraction from it), to prevent people from wishing they had more of it.

Anyway, engine swaps would be interesting, but I'm really at a loss as to how to handle it properly. I think an engine bay "volume" and "shape" vs. engine "volume" and "orientation" thing is a good start, although still borderline arbitrary given that in real life, there's always the option of cutting and shutting, and to make use of the vast array of fabrication skills out there. Then there is limiting the engine choice to those that wouldn't just tie the chassis up in a knot on the first pull (X2011 engine in a Lotus 7 chassis? Not a chance...) - one way would be to use the maximum torque / power of each engine matched to a similar figure for each chassis.

As for maximum power, well it's sort of pointless without the real-life penalty of potential long term damage and failure of drivetrain parts etc. Say if the minimum distance before rebuilds is somehow dependent on the state of tune, maybe that would be a nice middle ground (assuming the rebuild options are better / more sensibly priced.) You want to run at 3 bar boost, fine. I'll say a prayer for your gearbox and half shafts. :dopey:

The tuning system does need overhauling first, though, in my mind.

Lol, PD is not even close to becoming EA Studios, look at Codemasters to resemble that kind trend if anything. This kind of nonsense engine swapping is not GT's style, I mean really, how can anybody be unhappy with the amount of car selection. I understand that it'd be cool to have your favorite car with a nice V6 or V8, but this would end up being too much research for PD to implement for all cars. I doubt it's as easy as swapping values within the physics engine as far as simulation goes.

If we're talking engine swaps, then why not displacement changes and drive layout changes too? NSX engined MR layout CRZ, like the CRX LM from a previous GT outing, 3.0L rebored R32 GTR, Ford Focus RS with the running gear and engine from the Escort Rally Car?

If PD want some real inspiration they should head over to engineswapdepot, I'd love to have the classic '70 Skyline with the R33 engine. Also, How about the Suzuki Escudo engine in the GSXR/4!?

I wanna put Wankel rotary engines on every car! Just like in real life ;)

HuskyGT
I would Hemi everything!!

These are my dream 'mad scientist' swaps I would love to see in GT also. But I love to see these types as well.

A 2.5 or a 3.0 Boxer in a Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution.

A powerful 4g63 rebuilt and around 500+ hp or a Legacy 3.0L in a Impreza WRX STi.

A RB26DETT powered MK4 Supra with a AWD chassis.

AE86 with either a 1UZ-FE, 2JZ-GTE, F20/F22 from a S2000 or a LS1/LS2 engine from a Camaro/Firebird/newer GTO.

A 5.4L supercharged engine from a Ford GT in a Mustang GT.

2JZ-GTE engine inside a MR2 SW20 chassis, S2000, Mustang GT, Camaro, Tacoma X-Runner, NSX and even a Corvette. ;)👍

Where I live I've seen people put 700hp engines on their lupos and clio's by engine swapping... This is something i would love to do in GT5 but no I have to settle for upgraded engine stages... seriously a 250 hp lupo is not realistic.

Look PD I know this is for balancing (probably) the cars in the game and not make anything OP but seriously... There has to be a way to implement this.

V-Tech engined Rover mini would be my first swap :) then a mid engined mini like the Z cars conversion kits.

Bro, talk about mad scientist :D

The subaru engines on a Lancer sounds crazy, as well as the Mitsubishi engines in Subarus!

Skyline GTR engine on a MK4 supra sounds wierd, but interesting. Almost the same type of engine.

The AE86 with an S2000 engine is probably your best idea so far.

The 5.4 SC V8 on the Mustang would be killer. Although we already have a similar car with the Cobra R, if you drop in a super charger.

As for the SW20 MR2 with the 2JZ, sounds interesting. I´m just thinking how could you adjust a long L6 in that small compartment. I think I've already seen MR2 with engine swaps, but with the more compact, 2GR-FE. It's a very popular mod. The Tacoma with a 2JZ would be killer as well.

👍

Don't forget people, PD already gave us the impossible with the X2010 and X2011.

:tup:I know I've posted some engine swap scenarios myself, but to be honest I have to agree that this option should never be implemented in the game. I agree that it's far beyond nonesense in a game like Gran Turismo.

But people are just having fun with the possible "what-if?" scenarios.

Midget II with a 440 Six Pack anyone?

There's a fine difference between a fantasy car developed in collaboration with one of Formula 1's best engineers (Adrian Newey at Red Bull) and an engine swap that can be achieved in your own garage if you research and puts your mind and time into it.

Personally I never drive the X2010, but I have a high appreciation for the calculations of the aerodynamics of the car which PD/RedBull claim SHOULD hold true if brought to life. Same goes for the GT by Citreon. These are well thought out concepts that have time put in by both PD and engineers, not your everyday LS1 Miata. It's also different because these a promotional efforts as well. I know GT series had hybriding options previously, but obviously dropped it for a reason.

At the end of the day it's just more torque at the wheels from most swaps, which rarely translates to more better overall performance, specifically cornering (a lot of times slightly less g's because of the heavier engine), so really it's for the fun factor of driving in your favorite car with the added tire smoke and foreign exhaust notes (and we all know PD hasn't nailed those anyway...yet)

I can't see being able to swap a X2010 engine onto say a GT-R or a Veyron as a good idea. Those high revving Formula engines don't put out enough torque to push those heavier street cars.

No thanks.

We need more realistic physics and graphics for next game

With realistic engine change we will get a better experience , i dont know why some people want x2010 engine in a normal its ridiculous .

real engine change like 240 sx powered by rb26 or 2jz

nissan bluebird powered rb20 , 240zg 280zx powered by v8 or v6

what i mean is realistic engine swap not childish swaps .

,,,,what i mean is realistic engine swap not childish swaps .

Exactly, I've seen people saying stupid things like "Viper engine in the Fiat 500F" That engine is roughly the same size as the car you're trying to shoehorn it into! A realistic option would be a larger displacement without having to remodel the car dramatically in order to accommodate it.

:sly: What can i say ?

i dont know what are they thinking about , maybe its a joke haha ok very funny but seriously :grumpy: lol .

THIS is silly,,,

6.4L supercharger Hemi in a Mini

THIS is much more like it,,,
130070602z1971datsun240vx5.jpg

240z with RB26DETT, also tuned to 600bhp!!!

THIS is also silly, but intriguing - Nissan Pulsar with a mid-mounted Ferrari F355 engine!!

My favourite is this spankingly beautiful creation - KGC10 Skyline with an RB25DE engine

Another option in addition to engine swapping (or alternatively) would be a market or area of the parts store that sells specific engines (think Judd V8's and V10's and the BTCC NGTC Engine and possibly crate engines).

You could then easily limit modifications by checking limiting boxes that restrict choices to cars using that specific engine.

Some cars already are given bogus weight distributions and bogus horsepower upgrades, the last thing this game needs is idiot engine swaps.
