engine swaps

Yep this has been covered many times, the general idea's were yes it'd be cool if it was implemented in the right way.

I think it be cool if you could do a SR20DET swap into a AE86 or a RB26DETT into a 240sx or S15. I think there is alot more possibilities but i agree. If used in the right way it would be alot more fun

Yes. That is a great idea! 👍

Another idea: Drivetrain swaps. Yesss. I can picture it now a Honda Accord station wagon with a TVR v12 powerplant and converted to 4WD. That'd be sweet. Because honestly, any FF would be far better off as 4WD. 💡 💡 💡

Don't think that drivetrain conversions would happen. I think if they do it they should stick to realistic swaps. Small block Chevy in a Miata, or the aforementioned RB26DETT into a 240sx.

I started a thread on this some time ago...

A new and revolutionary tuning option

The craziest idea there was an old Mini with a mid-mounted Viper engine and 4WD. :dopey:

Wow..this looks alot like the GT4 forum.....
before GT4 came up!!

WOO WHOO
let's get everyone all hyped up for a let down..
ONE MORE TIME!!

It's been done, a Focus Unibody hacked up to fit over a Mustang Chassis. Saw it at the New York auto show a couple years back. I think they had to move the dashboard back a bit and the driver was sitting practically in the rear seats. Theres also the Dodge Caravan with the Viper V-10 and rear wheel drive.

I've seen a Porsche 3.6 engine mid mounted in an old Mini, basically the driver sat where he was and the engine was a where the rear seats were or therabouts. That one was just rwd I think.

As for Speed 12 engines Accord, not going to happen, the Speed 12 engine probably wouldn't fit much, it's huge with a capital H, so it's Huge.

Yeah it would be nice but I wouldnt like the silly ones like Speed 12 engine in a mini or anything like that. I would like to be able to put a SR20DET in a 510 or 910 Bluebird like I have done a few times in real life, its those sorts of swaps Im interested in.

Is that even physically possible? But yea, I think even PD would draw lines on what you can swap based on not only things like licenses, but on physical limitations as well. You also know car companies, their so anal about everything. They might not like their precious works of art in another chassis. Though they may allow you to exchange engines between different manufactures, who knows. I'm just speculating for now. That seemed to be the case with "Automodellista", you were only allowed to exchange engines bewteen cars of a specific manufacturer.

ex: RB26DETT into a Silvia....yes
RB26DETT into a Supra...no

One of the coolest swaps I've seen was an Infiniti Q45 V-8 swapped into a '70 Datsun 240z. They modded the motor like crazy though, twin turbo and a massive intercooler. The car looked awesome, except for they installed massive 18" chrome wheels. The poor Z looked like a steamroller! Anyways, maybe it would be sweet if they allowed swapping among a manufacturers various cars, but in order to do it, you had to buy both cars, the one you source from, and the destination vehicle. They could add a GT junkyard for sourcing all kinds of different parts! Probably a little too ambitious...

Lexus V8 or 3SGTE into an AE86 is where it's at. Or a Lexus V8 in an AW11 MR2 (yes, it fits). There's a racing team here who last year had an AE101 Levin with a Supra engine and presumably a RWD conversion, its only competition was an ex V8 Supercars Commodore and a GT3 Porsche. This season they're running a Ford Focus with a 4 Litre XR6 Turbo engine in the same class.

I think a V8 into a 240z is butchery, people should have respect for a classic. Chrome 18"s is horrible too, what a waste of one of my favourite cars.

If GT5 is to have conversions they have to be realistic, a V12 in a 4WD Honda wagon is stupid.

I have seen a Fiat 500 (you know that small car from the "60's) with a Honda engine (I believe it's from an EG) mounted in the place where normally the small engine is. That would be a crazy fast car! Most of the weight is the engine, and that engine would at least manage to cranck out 160HP! Imagine! At least 160HP on 500kg! After tuning over 250HP O_O" That would be awesome!

Super Cirrus, I'm guessing you've already checked out the latest issue of Sport Compact Car, but if you haven't get it! I'm putting my money on that LS-1 powered RX-7 to win all the performance categories.

like the idea of a fiat 500r with a 160hp motor.. damn.. put some wings on it and you would be able to fly :D

but it would be nice to swap your v6 against a v8 (is car supports it) needs be be realistic.. u cant but a v12 on a fiat 500r coz that would never work in real life..

Errh... Ferrari used to make 2.0 liter V12s. It's not impossible, but nobody bothers anymore.

I'd also like to see:
Renisis powered Miata
LS6 powered delorean
k20 Elise
LS6 Solstice
some of the more popular honda/nissan/chevy/etc swaps.
