engine swaps

Posted this up in another thread before reading the entire section dedicated to GT5!! (oops)

Its good to see people want to keep things realistic w/ what engines can and will fit in what car.

However, what can an engine be tuned to, is there a maximum?

We now see 1,000bhp M3 engines, 800bhp Evo Engines, 300bhp+ 1400cc Renault 5 Turbo engines!!

What is the limit? And what is a reasonable propsal by creators of GT5 that'll keep us happy!

Only way round this problem i can forsee is updates!

Evo engines can get up to 800bhp, but, on GT4 the highest i got them to was 500bhp, in GT5 i think that you should be able to tune the car to the limit and be able to put a maximum of 4 turbos on ann engine. And you are allowed to tune the turboes and ECU's to increase power!

no offense, to all who have said they want to swap engines... but I really, truly, hope and pray that you can't do it in this game - ever.
agree :)

but surely there'll have to be a limit to what you can do and cannot do. can't be putting M3 engines in civics and viper engines in evos

i think stock non-turboed cars should be able to have intercoolers... like civics and integras, or change the subaru to a front mount... it'd be nice if we could see the intercoolers too

At the end of the day, GT doesn't offer much freedom to tune your car, like induction, you can't turbo a lot of cars, why not, you can in real life. I think engine swapping is a good idea, it should be more expensive than practical but it should be there all the same, a long with drive conversions and so on. Now if your worried about everyone driving 300nhp mid-engined 4wd Mini's ect, just make the majority of events allow cars with the standard engine and drive allowed to enter. Have some that will allow your 300bhp mid-engined Mini too. The key is, give the player the choice, let me do what I want to that car. It'd make Gran Turismo a whole lot more interesting again, because back in 97, GT1 had so many option compared to the other games out then, it was untrue. Here in 2005 almost 2006, other games have caught up and many overtaken, GT needs to start giving the players more choice how we tune and modify our cars.

i have skimmed through the thread. if they have the option. it should be by demensions . meaning the development team would have to work harder to get all the correct engine bay dimensions. We all know in real life you can make just about any hybrid swap happen. its all about space, money, time, etc. some motors would simply destroy certain cars natural balance. others could benifit a car for certain style racing. But it could all be negated by proper suspension set ups.

i really dont think that car companies would feel confortable about allowing PD to add this feature.

some hybrid swaps for u guys

I think popular swaps should be allowed. Like B series into a Civic, or RB series into a 240sx(Silvia). But some off the wall conversion like twin engine DSM or twin engine Tiburon shouldn't be allowed. And the best way to limit these car from racing is limit the HP in the major races. I love the racing restriction they have in GT2, limit the HP is the best way to go.

I see what u mean and i beleive it is the way forward for GT5. Ive seen in the UK a Mk1 Golf w/ a TVR Engine, ill try and find the link. The front end is so much wider to fit the engine, but it does look prity immense.. anyways!

About the balance, a heavier engine in the front would make the car handle worse, however, i quite like drag racing/Quater Mile; Bigger engine means more weight but more power, more torque, more tuning ability as bigger displacment?!

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Also thought, w/ the increased realism brought w/ 500bhp from a B16 engine (example), the unreliablity factor without upgrading internals of engines is high, therefore i think it would be prity cool to have "spare engines". The ability to buy a car, take out the engine and even spend money on it just in case, say if your running in a series race, your "team of mechanics" can try and fit it before the next race.

This could be highlighted farther, and it is possible to "create" in the GT world, taking individual parts off a spare engine and transferring them to yours, for example a worn part. This could also be reflected by a 2nd hand parts market, where it is also possible to buy new items, but used items for added realism and "bargain hunting!"

Furthermore the 'donor car' could be used for spare body parts/panels when u get damage etc.
