engine swaps

I read about that yesterday, around 450Bhp, the old BMW M5 engine. Now thats gonna be some hot hatch.

yeah, think a RB26DETT mounted longitudinally is wider than a CRX before you find a transaxle that would come close to fitting it!

On a more serious note, so the LS1 powered RX-7 sucked in the SCC street car challenge. It will be back!!!

They've fit a V8 in a CRX, why not an RB?... but then you'd need to hack out the firewall. I still think swaps should be limited in-game to what will fit in the engine bay.

V8 = ~4 cylinders long. RB26DETT = 6 cylinders long.

Ah... but the V8 was already through the hood and the firewall. The RB would just move the driver back another foot.

The longer RB wouldnt move the driver back but you would have more trouble fitting it between the suspension strut towers (mounted longitudinally/transverse). Unless you were to turn the engine back around in the usual FR type configuration (like a Skyline). In this case you would also be converting the drivetrain configuration also.

The V8 in the CRX was also a longitudinal mount. I don't know how they did the transaxle either. Basically, it was almost a CR-X funny car. And an RB isn't very wide without its plumbing... after seeing one of the rare RBX crate motors (factory direct... unUSED... awesome) on a showroom floor, I was struck by the fact that it wasn't any wider than my old SR20, and only about half a foot longer (could be wrong)... would definitely be lighter than an ironblock V8.

I never mentioned width as a problem with the RB but if the engine is going in longitudinal then length would be the problem though, where a V8 should be abuit shorter.

👍 true.

how about an RB26DETT into say a Nissan Silvia. My friend Jes in real life has an RB25DET in her Nissan 180SX.

I am all for those sensible kind of swaps.

Sensible swaps would be nice.

20Valve 4a-ge (Corolla AE101/AE111) into AE86, AW11.
B20 in Mazda Autozam AZ-1 (its been done :D )
2ZZ-GE (7th Gen Celica GT-S) into an MR2 Spyder
Rotary powered Miata

Stuff like that. Sane reasonable swaps that people do.

Some of my dream swaps:
-LS2 in a Suzuki Cappucino
-Lexus V8 in an AE86
-Subaru STI 2.5 Turbo in a Corvair
-13B in an RX-2
-6.1 Hemi in a Crossfire
-1.8T in a Rabbit GTI
-VQ35 in a 510

my 2 cents.

I love this idea, especially because it would make it more realistic and piss off more noobs
when they take a big motor like an RB26 and mod it to say 900whp and try to put it into an Evo or something rediculous and think it will own everyone until they realize they just ruined the cars balance, handling abilities, put more stress on the front tires and shocks and brakes.

At least have some realistic swaps applicable like in Forza. Like a K20a2 swap into an ek9 or an RB25 swap into a usdm 240sx, now that would be friggin cool. Hell a boosted MR2 motor into an Elise anyone? and it would totally rock if they did it so you could swap a 1UZ or 3UZ into a MKII OMG that would be hot! as long as they dont have ridiculous stuff like a 2JZ-GTE into a 2002 Porsche 911 Carrera 4S.

i would rather be able to go to a tuner garage and tune the engine up on a dyno than swap the engine. although it would be cool to put a V12 in a skyline like the Skyline Unlimited!

Although the idea of an engine swap sounds great, it's going to get out of hand when every car gets an [insert alphanumeric code here] engine in it. Not to mention, what about making the most of the engine's ability before demanding a 300% increase in power? If you're going to swap out motors for a 20-50hp increase, what's the point? Pick a turbo, or pick an NA kit and keep it simple. There's also going to be lots of arbitrary choices on PD's part.

By the way, PD included a tuning option in all the GT games called "Increase Displacement", but for some reason, they never seem to employ it on more than a dozen or so cars...

In short, it's a great idea that works in real-life, but not video games. I never thought I'd say that.

Im all for engine swaps as long as they stay true to what can be done in real life.

Also, they really have to stop worshipping the skyline so much, yes it's a good car, but it not good enough to hog the diplacement up, let it be done to every car, and please tell us how much of an increase was made.

LS7 in a Camaro or GTO
2JZGTE in an altezza
the V8, rwd focus. (yes ford racing offers all that suff)
one i've always wanted to do: subaru's 3.0 liter boxer 6 in an impreza. turbocharged of course. (for all intents and purposes it should practicaly bolt right in.)

maby that last one is a bit far fetched but i have a slew of these that i'd love to do as well as the common swaps that people like to do. those types of known doable swaps are probably the only ones that would make it into the game but anything at all would be nice.

-> Heh, heh, I'd really like to put a Toyota 2JZ-T (Supra turbo), into a Toyota HiLux reg. cab long bed. That would be sick!
