Engine transplants that should be done!

I've been thinking about the stuff they do over at Hennessey Performance Engineering. These guys are known for their engine transplants. Examples include putting an LS9 into a 2010 Camaro, or putting a Viper V10 into a Jeep Cherokee SRT8. I've come up with some ideas on cool engine swaps that should be done.
Take a new Mini Cooper S, and stick a V8 out of an E90 M3. I would call it the Mini Cooper M.
Take a Saturn Sky or Pontiac Solstice and insert an LS9 from a ZR1.
A Dodge Caliber SRT4 with a Viper V10.
And a few oldies with modern touches:
A Cadillac Series 62 from '57 with an LSX from a CTS-V.
And A 1960 Chevy Impala with an LS9 from the ZR1.

These would all be very cool!

I don't think the V10 would fit in the Caliber, considering that fact that it normally had a transverse mounted I4 or V6!

V10 in a Cherokee SRT8 would be a stretch too, since Petersen's 4WD mag is installing a V10 into a Durango, and they are having a hard enough time, including cutting up the interior to fit the engine and transmission.

Well for the Caliber, making it mid mounted could work. And it obviously would be RWD.

And for the Jeep. Hennessey actually made a Cherokee SRT8 with a Viper V10. I know Tony Hawk has one, cause he uses it in the Gumball 3000 Rally.

20B twinturbo in Viper. 4A-GZE in Camaro. BMW 123d's diesel in Corvette. If I ever get enough money to pull these off, I will do it. :mischievous:

I hate how people think converting a FWD to RWD is just a matter of drilling some holes to mount the rear end.

I think the big thing starting now is old bodied cars onto the top of new chassis. Just saw one the other day from one of our customers that cut apart a perfectly good chevy tahoe and used it as a base for an older (70's?) GMC pickup. Same has been done with an old GTO body on a 2006 GTO chassis, etc.

That's where it's at. 👍

I generally like the idea behind the RX-7 engine swap - but I think often the good cars usually have engines that can be worked with.

Since I've seen a :censored:load worth of conversions in my time, I'll list down some of the more unusual examples:

1UZ-GE Supercharged into MX-5.
20BT into a VH Commodore.
Quad Rotor into E46 BMW (Queen St. racing drag car).
2JZ-GTE into a KE20 Corolla.
454 Chev into Holden Gemini.
RB30ET into Holden Gemini.
XR6 Turbo motor into Mk2 Escort (just about finished this project).
4A-GZE into '60's Mini Cooper.
SR20DET into E30 BMW.
FJ20DET into Mazda 808 (normally it's an instant 13B swap into these!).
FJ20DET into Austin Healey Sprite (was Australia's quickest 4cyl for many years in the 90's!).
Lancia 2.0L Turbo into Datsun 1200 ute (Vince Rigoli's car).
LS1 into Suzuki Mighty Boy (CURUPT).
Suzuki 250cc into a golf cart.

There's many more, but I just woke up and that was off the top of my head.

500 cubic inch Cadillac big block into anything with any other V8 already in it. I'll choose AMC Pacer or Gremlin because of the extreme oddity it would be.

It wouldn't work or fit for that matter. The 1.6L 4 cylinder engine barely fits under the bonnet so I can't imagine anything bigger would work. You could put it in the back ala Clio Sport but even then I don't know if it would be big enough.

For engine swaps though, I'm all for shoe horning an LS1 into anything you can possibly make it fit in.

Like the RX-7. :sly:

I'm all for V8 swaps, but I have owned three RX-7's and would never own one without a rotary in it. I REALLY want an RX-3 project car right now.

its not a zr1 motor but the chassi/interior/powertrain came from a corvette c6 👍

I'm not sure which I hate more, that car or the '53 Corvette 'replication'. And like most kit cars, it looks stupid because you're left with the donor car's cabin (windshield in this case) and usually ruins the intended look.

A friend of mine has an LS1 in his S14. 380rwhp in a car that light is pretty damn fast. And the S2000 engine (F20C/F22C) will drop right into my Civic and bolt up to the K20 transmission. Hey Glubags...

The Cooper is too short... even the Clubman would be a near impossible fit.

You could technically fit a Viper engine behind the driver... but there'd be no room for the accessory belts, the radiator, any heat-shielding whatsoever, or the transmission... and it'd still stick out of the rear end of the car.

I forgot which show they did it on... they took the shell off an old Challenger and slapped it onto the running gear of the new one.

An interesting one would be converting a Mini to AWD using a second transverse engine mounted where the Z-axles go. Put a box over it to cover it up and no-one will know. It'll be sort of like the AWD Moke they had before (twin-engined, so that they didn't have to design an AWD system to fit!)

Use two Cooper S engines with the Works package (for a total 400 hp), synchronise them the cheap and easy way by using the 6-speed AT, so you retain paddle-shift functionality, and mount a custom mid-chassis fuel tank, build twin cells under the driver and passenger seat, a la Honda Fit.

The Honda Fit is another interesting car to work with... since the fuel tank is already in the middle, you can do a lot of chopshop stuff with the rear end of the car. I've been pondering if the 3.5 liter Accord mill will fit back there...

Being Reasonable, Ecoboost 3.7 V6 into in a Beanie Taurus, with the 4WD system....Great Sleeper 👍

Also, Hyundai Genesis 4.6 Tau V8 into a Tucson.

And what about my Favorite, Ford Supervan Engine into a Corvette.

also, a Fiat Barchetta with Ferrari f458 V8

Toyota Camry with 1GR-FE supercharged

Oh and a Mazda Protege with a 20B

Ford Police Interceptor with a supercharged 6.8L Triton V10 and a 5speed swap.

Oh wait, it's been done.

Better yet, Power Stroke.

Forgot all about the Fit. There are Youtube videos of some with a supercharged K20. Thats at least 250whp, easily 300+.

I'd like to see a few more twin engine conversions in anything. Here in the uk I'm going back a few years now someone did an old Vauxhall Nova with a front and rear engine the power plants was donored from Vauxhall calibre 4x4 turbo with the conversion kit on the 6 speed boxs to lose the 4WD both engines was also tuned. X2 2.0 turbo. lol Probably one of my best loved conversions ever.
