I just don't see how people dislike Monaco. You set the car up right and it's so rewarding by finding the grip inside close to the barrier. You need a decent setup and maximum downforce is always a good start. I've played f1 games way back since the Geoff crammond GP days where setup was vital and since then I've gotten used to how aero simply works and know what to do immediately at each circuit. I know each game and cars handle different but it always puts me in "the ball park" and I just spend the rest of the time perfecting the setup with tweaks here and there. Camber, tow in,tow out, spring rate, ride height, torque distribution, brake bias. All make a massive difference at each circuit and can gain you seconds, literally. Once you perfect the setup to your liking and driving style, you can then play with the brake bias coming into certain turns. It can really help when you want to get a good exit and punch yourself onto the straight. Good Ol' Schumi was a pro at it.

Its more the AI if anything, theres some corners im faster than them as i outbrake them but you just cant get past as its too narrow. Too much reliance on AI behaviour there. You make a good point about max downforce though...will try that tonight.

Had a race ruining at Baku today, 21 laps in I pitted for Supersofts then came out and after a few corners it went back into pit speed-limiter mode for no reason. It even said I was pitting on the menu screen, I got disqualified after 10 seconds for illegal stopping :(

Were you driving for Williams? They deliberately sabotage their cars. [/Maldonado]

So I started my career again on expert. Just couldn't meet the practice targets on Legend. I usually set difficulty at max in racing games and don't usually struggle. Hopefully more time with the game will see me increase difficulty.

Decided on a midfield team, McLaren, so that I would still have some fun in the pack. Practice targets now easily reachable, probably a little too easy, and ended up qualifying 6th. My excellent tyre saving in practice meant I had a choice of a single stop race in Oz, first stint on SS's, second stint on M's. Took a gamble and went for it. Made a great start and got up to third after the first corner with Ricciardo ahead running a little wide at T1. Settled into my race and kept a charging Raikonnen behind me until the first stop. Everyone else was two or three stopping so when I stuck on my medium they all put on supersoft or soft tyres. Lost quite a few places over the next ten laps but was still putting in decent times whilst looking after the mediums. Everyone then started pitting and after the last set of stops Hamilton came out just in front of me and I was in second! He proceeded to disappear up the road on his set of supersofts and my tyres got progressively worse for the last 7 or so laps. Ricciardo was catching me but the gap was big enough that I wasn't too worried. Kept using voice commands (brilliant feature) to check the gap behind. With three laps to go my tyres were really feeling second hand and my engineer informed me that Ricciardo was catching at three seconds a lap! He caught me with quarter of a lap to go but I just managed to hold him of with some good defensive positioning to take a very well earned second place. Probably one of the best races I have had against AI in any game.

I know it's unrealistic for a McLaren to finish second but the gap between Expert and Legend is just too great. At least I was fighting other drivers through the race though. Onto Bahrain!

I need to sweat and adjust the setup to match the pace on hard. Only did the first practice sessions for Australia though, but i'm barely beating my team mate.

Is the AI adaptive in this game in one way or another?

I don't think it's adaptive and there appear to be huge jumps between difficulty levels.

Yeah if i hear your situation it seems like you are falling just in between levels. That stinks but i suppose you could handicap yourself a little like we used to do in GT? :D

Hard seems fine for me for the moment so i can't complain, but we'll see after i finish my first race i guess.

From my experience the race tends to be a little easier than quali.

I saw a weird thing at Russia - Hamilton appeared to have a failure AFTER the finish line as he won the race (on my final lap it flashed up with him out of the race) - but he was on the podium collecting his trophy - it then showed him first on the race result screen BUT with 0 points and a DNF next to his name....

Well i tried Monaco tonight and i hated it.....i just dont enjoy it at all. I dont understand why im so far off the pace,a full second off 21st in qualy, using a max downforce setting. (im not sure if that was the best choice)

Got to lap 5,was 17th and had a train of the backmarkers behind me.... and i simmed the rest - bring on Canada which is my fave circuit next!

2 laps to go, 6th place, I look at the minimap, and total my car, and now i want to cry. And at Canada, too. One of my favorite tracks on the schedule.

Had an interesting start to my second season. I don't know if this is a glitch/bug. FP1 at Australia. I notice a car slow on the track (turns out to be the Haas of Esteban Gutierrez.) He was stuck at pit speed (37mph) out on the track, driving in the racing line. He does not have a puncture or any visible damage to his car. Coming out of turn 12, this happens. After this he continues along out on the track. (I am the #58 Mercedes)

I didn't manage to get the other incidents later in the session on replay, but he ended up also making himself, Fernando Alonso and Marcus Ericsson retire. Not only this but he contributed to a whopping 13 incidents.

Honestly the strangest FP1 I've ever done!

Had an annoying issue at Monaco in my career. I use an Xbox 360 controller but play the game on PC, and even with the setup on max downforce, I genuinely cannot get my car around the hairpin. It just doesn't have enough steering lock. I haven't checked the setups indepth but surely this isn't something you need to manually change just to get around the track?!

Yeh this helped me a lot.
Me, too. Picked up a good four seconds across three laps with a few minor tweaks - enough that I will have to up the difficulty (which I was looking for). Currently trying to balance the advantages of one adjustment against the disadvantage of another, but I am convinced that I can get more by opening them up further. As it is, I am trying to find a way around my driving style; I like a lot of body roll to keep the balance between front understeer and rear oversteer in check. It's a really rally style, but here it chews the tyres up.

I like a lot of front grip too.
Last race I really noticed how much 1 turn of front wing can do. I was running with a little understeer so I set it to up my front wing at the pitstop. I not only got better laptimes but my front tyre wear was helped loads.

My current go to setup is the one posted with the following changes.

Ride height adjusted for the track.
Off throttle diff - 50%
Downforce adjusted for the track although I do like high downforce setups usually.

Also dropped my career difficulty to legend. I can do ultimate at some tracks but I don't feel I am there at them all just yet. I think it will come though.

I like the way there is no one perfect setup. It's something that Codemasters really worked on for Dirt Rally - setup is more about finding something that lets the individual get speed in their own way. I downloaded a few setups in time trial to race rival ghosts, and I found that some of them were downright horrible, even though they were faster than me. I made a few tweaks of my own, and I would go faster than them.

I'm working on the assumption that if you go one way in the setup, there are trade-offs; if you decrease the off-throttle differential, you'll get better rotation and tyre wear, but at the same time you'll get lower corner stability and longer braking distances. So I tend to be less extreme in my off-throttle differential settings.

You are more likely to spin yes but I can deal with a loose rear better than I can deal with a front that doesn't want to turn. I keep the on throttle diff at 70% for traction out of corners.

Is it me or does the steering lock look strange? It looks like the car understeers in almost every corner.

Would anyone be interested in running a multiplayer championship tonight? I'm interested in doing a full season of 5lappers.

Please let me know, approx 8:00 P.M. PST tonight, Friday, 8.26.16 username on PSN is No1Driv3r_ feel free to send me a message or friend request 👍

WHAT a race i just had in Canada! My first points in the Manor....from 21st!

The race started with a downpour, and it was heavy rain for the first 18 laps,i managed to battle my way through from 21st to 10th...i was outbraking the AI in corners and managed in the rain much better than i thought i would.

Next came one of my best calls ever,i came in for Inters at just the right time....i jumped a few cars the next lap and found myself in 5th!! It was Perez and Sainz ahead of me and i overtook them to be in an amazing 3rd place!

I had Hamilton in front and Vettel behind, and i kept pace with them for around 10 laps. The track dried up with 5 laps to go,i had to try and fend off Vettel and Ricciardo at the end on softs, but they easily had the pace to take me. But i managed to finish in 5th in the end! What a classic hehe...Canada always throws them up!

Is it just me, or is the Manor really unresponsive to set-up changes? I have tried running the Renault, Sauber and Manor with the same custom set-up and found that I could barely eke any extra lap time out of the Manor.

Yeah I have but I thought maybe because it's so far back in terms of development that it's going to take a lot more to get anything out of it because you have to over drive it or really wring it's neck to see any improvement in times. I found the Haas to be really difficult to set the rear up to feel as grippy as the front of you know what I mean but the same setup doesn't affect the redbull at all.
