Switching from Renault to Haas in the middle of a season was a HUGE mistake, it's completely different to drive and all the R&D went towards Drag and Engine :scared:

Surely in a better way?! Unless you developed Renault to be better than Haas?

That's because it's not carrying the same amount of speed into the corner.
They are pretty close. Max downforce on Ferarri I have to brake at about 150-125 where balanced on the HAAS I can get away with 100-75

Yeah it's quite tricky hey? You go to soft in the throttle and you loose massive amounts of time, to hard and tyres are gone. Torque distribution helped me with this issue massively.

@nascarfan
I can't drive the haas quick at all, hate the back end on that car.

Torro Rosso went into 3rd in team performance on my career! Even though their drivers arnt reflecting it hehe...

I found that when I upgraded my car it took a few races for my teammate's performance to also improve - that could be the case for the other AI as well.

After doing mainly shorter 25% races (and a full weekend of binging the game :D) I'm a fair bit into the career mode - a season plus a few races in, so been able to explore some of the mode's possibilities/limitations. (Will put in spoiler tags in case anyone just wants to find out for themselves)

More career details:

Nearly at the end of my 2nd season now. Still no evidence that a team's performance can move backwards, but they do move forwards at very different rates so the grid really gets shaken up, which is great to see. If you haven't come across one already there are special R&D events that occasionally pop up where teams make big jumps in performance. Just seen Force India get a huge upgrade at Spa and they went from 5th to 2nd best team!

I've also fully upgraded my Renault in 1 + 2/3rd seasons, which is probably the quickest you can do this give or take a few races. This put the team's performance considerably ahead of anyone else. When you've purchased all upgrades that's it - nothing more to buy, and no resets in upgrades (unless you switch teams I presume). So if you want to have more gradual progress up the grid with a single team, be frugal in spending those points!

The Renault is nearly Red Bull tier in my game now, if you do all the programs and complete all objectives you progress the R&D super quickly

Some more shots, just finished my first race. Felt happy with 16th :dopey::

Loving the voice controls with your engineer through your headset, really innovative. There's a lot to master in this game and i'm loving the steep road ahead. Atmosphere is top notch and the whole package seems very well thought through.

I guess this really is another example of the new breeze that is blowing through Codemasters studio, after the excellent work they did with Dirt by listening to fan feedback.

Still not able to assign my h pattern shifter and clutch to work in dirt, but change it back to paddles and it works. Swap it for PC and clutch and h pattern work fine so I've put dirt down in disgust tbh. Focussed on "no man's sky" in the meantime until f1 came out and now assetto corsa. Finding time hard to fit both in lol.

Teams don't move backwards this was confirmed ages ago. They just move forward at different rates.

I suspect that part of the issue is that I am using a controller rather than a wheel. Nevertheless, I'll try your method; where will I find the torque distribution settings in the set-up?

I use the function available during the race. It's in the same place as where you can change your brake bias. On ps4 I believe it's square to bring the function up. Try turning is down to about 55/60.

Well, I softened the suspension and loosened the differential, decreased the toe and eased off the brake pressure. The car feels horrendous, like it's driving on jelly, and it's about four seconds a lap off the pace, but the wear metre swings back to the middle in a straight line. There's no way I will use it outside practice, but at least I can get the development points.

have you tried keeping the setup that suits you and just altering the torque distribution on the car itself while your driving it? Made the car a lot less snappy for me. And just tailored it to suit various circuits. Plus I also generally run quite stiff or hard suspension and "marry" it in with the sway bars. Make them take the pressure instead so the stiffer the spring, the lower sway bar setting. In previous f1 games, this allowed me to run a lot less wing and have the advantage on the straights as well.

Yeah well everyone's setup will be different. But I was really struggle to get the power down on slow corners and the torque setting helped a lot. How about ride height? Have you played around with that?

I have found the sweet spot with the throttle, at least around Albert Park. In the end, the key was to turn the vibration back on. You get feedback when you have more than one input, but you get a moment or two before the wear kicks in.

He raises a good point in this video, there is some sort of hidden aid that magically aids you to recover the car, when you should be hitting the wall or spinning out (from 05.00 onwards):

How much are people getting virtual safety cars vs. normal ones? I've had a handful of SCs so far but seen no VSCs yet.

Iam getting quite a bit of both. Almost one of each per race tbh. My cousin who is playing it on Xbox is at hockenheim now and has only had two safety cars and one vsc. He can't understand why Iam getting a lot of each. Is it coding or the randomness of how chaotic is race is coded randomly if you know what I mean? Like there's a number of races coded for each track trying to implement as many different scenarios as possible and it's just random weather you'll have a chaotic race or a peaceful one.

Argh, getting frustrated with the AI. There's apparently no spatial awareness.

I qualified seventeenth in Melbourne, but for some reason I started twenty-second. I don't recall getting a penalty for anything.

Anyway, when I started the race, Magnussen tagged me in Turn 8. When the safety car pulled in, Palmer turned me around just before the second sector. So I restarted and tangled with Nasr when he pushed me across the grass, and then Palmer turned me around again, at which point I rage-quit.

Ive had a really good run in the Manor recently - points finishes in Canada,Baku and now Austria. I came a great 6th in Austria, crossed the finish line and the game hard crashed on me!!

So i restarted the race straight, and did even better and came 4th! The penulitmate lap i had both Mercedes fighting each other in front of me,Hamilton trying to get past Rosberg like in real life, great to see the AI doing this. But i took advantage and went past them both as they squabbled hehe! Kyvat finally won the race,Torro Ross starting to look quite strong! The A1 Ring is a great circuit for racing. Lovely setting aswell.

First time on Baku, and i liked it - the 3rd sector has some great high speed flat out corners but its a circuit which is very hard to master - you really have to nail those apexes. But an 8th finish is a very good first result - there was a long safety car period which helped me a lot. And quite a lot incidents - a couple of retirements on the actual straight.

I agree; it's fantastic fun to drive. I especially love the left-hander outside the presidential palace; it's really deceptive on approach, but you can make up a handful of time if you nail it.
