My helmet design.

Now that I have had a chance to drive every circuit in the game, I am struck by how much fun some of the Tilke circuits are to drive. Shanghai is probably the only lemon, but I admit that I have only driven it in the wet. And the section under the hotel in Abu Dhabi isn't great, either.

Right now, Brazil, Baku and Mexico are probably my favourite circuits.

So I finished a full length Australian GP in career mode. The safety car deployed on lap 9 after Magnussen had an engine failure, what suprised me is that it had 3 additional laps plus the pickup lap (compared to the pickup lap and one lap on the last gen games). Hamilton got a drive through penalty for speeding while the safety car was out while Bottas only got a warning for colliding with the safety car :dunce::odd:

I was in the lead for most of the race except during pitstops. Rosberg and Bottas both retired due to mechanical problems along the way. Hamilton to my surprise was able to go from dead last to 2nd by the end of the race.

Overall, this has to be the best F1 game of all time.

I'm ready to start career mode, but I am getting frustrated with the helmet paint schemes. I am trying to create a design that I like, but I find the slider system to be counter-intuitive. All I get is ghastly colours, and the rules for the base colour appear to be different to the rules for the highlights.

Also, it's surprisingly difficult to choose a racing number that I like. I have several that I like - #29, #37, #54, #61, #71 and #84.

I only had a few hours yesterday and my first impressions of the game is first and foremost the fact that I need to really ''git gud''. I'm liking it but this has proven to be a far bigger challenge than I ever expected, especially with the pad as I'm clearly not alone struggling with it.

Started a career on pro difficulty with Manor, all assist off and race length at 25%. My plan is to increase difficulty with each season. Only done the track acclimatization practice session so far and gave the tyre management a quick go as well - which just is way out of reach for me at the moment.

My biggest complain so far is the screen-tearing. I hope they can improve the performance, both off and on track.

Can't wait till I get home tomorrow and play it some more though.

When it comes to tyre management programs, I have found that it helps to consciously think about your inputs. Don't turn while braking; don't accelerate until you have the car straightened up. And don't worry about the timer - the temptation is there to go flat out, but that will just degrade your tyres no end. Go slow to start with, and you will gradually find the speed, although I haven't worked out the relationship between lap time and the points paid just yet.

I know it's only a video game, but I think it really puts paid to the criticism that nursing the tyres means that drivers cannot push at 100% through the race. It's often quicker to back off through one corner to nail the second rather than take the first corner flat and compromise the second with a knock-on effect onto the straight.

I thought it was an auto 0 if you failed to meet the target time.

And I switched to Renault to start my career. 1. To get Palmer off the grid and 2. because I value handling over straight line speed. The Manor gets its little bit of pace from the Mercedes engine.

I started with McLaren and the difficulty set to hard, but I might need to tone the difficulty down and start with Manor, Sauber or Renault as I am still two or three seconds off the expected pace in qualifying simulations.

I can just about match Legend atm. Want to work to ultimate.

I set the wheel up earlier, these are really good fun to drive, particularly out of low speed corners. Done some Time Trials at Mexico and Singapore. Getting fairly well up the leaderboards in the McLaren, it's a shame you can't sort leaderboards by car.

I'm doing the championship season on 100% at JB on expert. Beaten Nando twice so gonna try legend next race, although I trounced him in Oz but that was down to picking the right tyres when it rained with 15 laps to go.

Doing the races at full distance is really satisfying, Bahrain was a it dull by it's nice to see your strategies work out across a whole race.

I want the AI cars to drive as close to real speed as I can but I need to get quicker first before I turn he difficulty up. I only really struggle in the traction zones so places like turn 2 and 3 at Bahrain I lose loads of time. Any tips or just keep improving my throttle control? (I've got a lot better but I still can't accelerate as smoothly or as quick as the ai.

Don't try and use all the revs in 2nd gear, gotta shift early and have as minimal steering input as possible when putting the power down. It is a tricky balance to get right though.

Full distance is committed!

It's not just that, fiddle around with the torque settings while driving, it can aid traction while saving tyres. Each condition, tyre, compound and circuit will all be different. This setting helped a lot with my times. The fact you can continuously tune this on the fly to suit ever changing conditions and wear is awesome. Brake bias is another as it can really help in certain corners to set you up for the best and faster line into the next corner or a good run on the straight. Iam playing it on the hardest possible difficulty with all aids of and my hours of testing setups at certain tracks over the years and slightly tweaking for 2016 really helps.

How is the FOV working out? Are there view or seat adjustments available to get the view just right?

I dropped it down to expert.

I feel ashamed of myself. I was sure I would be able to do ultimate going by my pace on other open wheel racing games.

cdkeys.com had the game for $40 for the Steam version so I went ahead and downloaded it. I've enjoyed some of the previous F1 games and it looks like they've made it better this year so I figured I'd give it a chance. Even though I find watching F1 to be brutal, playing the games seems to be way more entertaining for me.

Currently leading in the soming wet at Shangainas JB On Lap 42 of 56 and the Mercs had a coming together with Sainz when they were out of position after pitting. I think I'm going to change to it legend after this race.

14 laps to hold off Vettel for the win, he's just pitted but i might try and make this set of inters last till the end :)

Most of the customisable helmets are pretty horrible. I tried to create one that was emerald green and it came out snot green.

Just so long as it doesn't make the game easier. I hate pre-order and Day One release bonuses that do that.
I must say I do think the old custom helmet choices were a lot better than in this game but quite enjoying the game so far. Gone for #91 as my race number (the last 2 numbers of my year of birth).

Started my career with McLaren as #81. AI will be on expert until I get used to the game. If I start earning consistent too 5s without leapfrogging the top teams in R&D, I'll turn the difficulty up further. Been a blast thus far. Went full race weekend and 100% race distance.

Exactly my predicament. I replaced Button and I can't get anywhere near the times on Hard.

 At least everyone is finding it really hard and not that I suck massively all of a sudden. :P

As for me. I am about half a second off the pace of legend so I dropped it to expert. Still with Renault and still doing 100% etc. Not actually done a race yet lol

I ended up choosing #37 as my racing number, for the Lancia Rally 037, one of my all-time favourite rally cars. #61 was also an option, for the Maserati Tipo 61 "Birdcage", as was #71 for the Lockheed-Martin SR-71 "Blackbird". Then I had #29 because of my birthday, and #84 because George Orwell's Nineteen Eighty-Four is one of my favourite texts to teach.

I'm doing fine on expert but when I switch to legend j have no chance, the ai can brake super late and have ungodly amounts of traction and straight line speed.

My 1st take, as I picked up today - its everything I've sought in an open wheel game. Immesrive, authentic etc.
Really digging the upgrades

I use a controller, so I have to have some assists on to compensate for the way I get less sensitivity in throttle and braking. But I know that I can go faster without assists.

This is where setups come into play my friend. The one thing that drives me nuts so far is when you do a qualifying simulation in practice and you can't choose what compound. I was in worn ss and wanted to switches to softs for the run but every time I selected it I would go out on track with the same worn super softs >:|
