This is true. I wrote a very basic algorithm in college for my lego robot. It was guaranteed to find the exit to any maze just by continuously turning right...but make one accidental left turn and you could be doing loops indefinitely.

Of course, the couple forgot the fact that they were in fact surrounded by corn, not brick walls and could have easily just plowed through the corn following the sounds of cars driving past...or street lights (since it was dark).

the maze was located near Salem, I'm not surprised that they had trouble deciding witch way to go.
