I hate to be completely blunt but, I suppose sometimes the truth hurts...

...PS4...
... Fanatec to create a firmware that works for a specific game and this would need to be done in collaboration with the game developer. ...

#1 - Fanatec needs to create the firmware.

Correction...

Someone to create a firmware that works for a specific game and this would need to be done in collaboration with the game developer. ... Fanatec emulates it.

#1 - Someone needs to create the firmware, Fanatec emulates it.

I went back and forth on whether or not I should posting the above and finally decided to. FULL compatibility for that CSW requires Fanatec to develop their OWN drivers for PS4 and work with game devs to do it RIGHT.

As for XB1... good luck to you.

Yes, It is not about firmwares it is about game supporting the wheel as many have said. Fanatec needs to send their top engineer to PD Japan. And only leave when PS4 with GT(development version) is running fine with the wheel. Then sony needs to send all related code to all developers interested in driving games on PS4 platform.

Yeah, that's not very likely. They might license it for a price though. These guys aren't doing their jobs for attaboys, ya' know, they want to make money.

@mrbasher - Yep, they had a good (free)ride, but these are the things that can happen when one leaves themself at the mercy of another's whims. The luck just ran out.

Why is it so difficult to make your current Xbox 360 wheels compatible to the new console?

Several people have raised their concerns and we understand your disappointment but we also hope you see that there is nothing Fanatec could have done to make your wheels compatible to the new console. Technically it is probably possible to make an adapter but any device connecting to the Xbox 360 or Xbox One (incl. this adapter) needs to have a security chip module which can only be purchased from MS. So without the permission of MS we could only "crack" the security chip and this is not only illegal but would certainly ruin our relationship to MS and other platform owners.
And we were not able to "warn" anybody about this as up to this moment it is still possible that MS changes its mind like they did on other specs of the XB1 as well. It still can happen but we want to be fair and tell you that it is not likely to happen.
We never claimed that the wheels were compatible to Xbox one and please remember that all peripherals of the first Xbox did not work on Xbox 360 either.
But even if we were able to make such an adapter, the development costs would be significant as the XB1 uses a different force feedback protocol and in our wheels the Xbox protocols and PC protocols are separated and use different communication (wireless vs. USB). Given the limited market for such a device, such an adapter would be quite expensive.
Microsoft has good reasons to skip the backwards compatibility as this allowed to implement a completely new and more powerful communication protocol. Of course they are happy to sell new controllers to you and earn money on licenses but keep in mind that a console is about plug and play. MS is very strong to provide a clear standard for controllers and make sure that all controllers work with all games of a certain genre. On other consoles it can happen that your brand new and official controller works only with one game because the communication protocols are not clearly defined from the beginning.

The only thing we can offer is to develop a wheel where you can at least use your peripherals so you don’t have to buy a complete new setup. And when this wheel is ready, we will make an attractive upgrade offer for all existing customers for sure.

This was a pretty long post with a lot of inside information but I hope you can understand the situation a bit better now.
I really appreciate your support and patience.

Best regards
Thomas

Just got that same standard reply from fanatec also (they must get tons of mails complaining about this); appreciate them communicating within one day and explaining the situation, but i feel like a bit of a dumb*ss just having bought a CSR + pedals a couple of months ago.

Anyway i will still enjoy GT6 and FM4 with it ;)

Wonder one thing, I have only money for the CSW base right now, I am thinking of buying a rim later, but is it wise? Consider I won´t be able to detect if there are some obvious defects with the unit as I am unable to use it without a rim.

Upon receipt, the customer must inspect the goods immediately for flaws, condition and quality. In the case of apparent flaws, these must be reported to us in writing within 10 days after their discovery, the same is valid for latent defects. Otherwise the guarantee for these defects does not apply.

I really want to buy it now becuse the CSW base might get sold out and I don´t want to wait 3 months. :nervous:

It makes no sense to buy only the wheelbase. You have to pay for shipping twice. I would not bother about the obvious defects and warranty because i think they mean thing you can see right out of the box. Stuff like damages or broken parts.

I would advice you to wait at least another week. Next week it's black friday.

I bought my CSW on black friday last year and got a free formula rim

I forgot to mention I won´t have enough money to buy the base and rim until next month, and black friday isn´t that only relevant to americans? I have set my profie to show I am from Sweden but for some reason it don´t work.

So It´s not some specific store in US? Nice. Hope the offer won´t be that I have to buy a CSW unit and a rim to get a special price.
Thats exactly how I remember it, CSW and the BMW rim and you got the F1 rim free.
I don't know what the black Friday deal will be this year though.

I got this email when I requested information in regards to a Black Friday offer:
Hello William,

thanks for your inquiry.

We will have a Black Friday offer. Please have a look again on our website www.fanatec.com at Black Friday.

Mit freundlichen Grüßen / Best regards

Now I want a little help from you guys:
I have been sim racing seriously for about 7 years, and been using the Logitech G25 for 5 years, and it's quickly reaching the end of it's life, so after 5 years, I believe it's time to upgrade.

I'm really considering getting the CSW Black Friday special, but I'm slightly worried about the wheel, and its reliability issues. However, I know that it just comes down to having a good model, which I'm just wondering if it's worth the risk.

I currently have saved $350 (soon to be $400), and my mother has agreed to help match me towards my goal as an early Christmas gift, so my main two models in the price range are the T500RS/TX, or the Clubsport Wheel. So I just want your guy's input on what my next step in my sim racing journey should be.

Thank you for your time :)

EDIT: I should also mention that I am exclusively a PC simmer, so I don't really have any need for the console functionality.

If you are just doing PC racing the CSW is hard to beat. You could do TM TX+CSPv2 if the CSW reliability really worries you.

I have had pretty rotten luck with my CSWs. That being said, my experience may not necessarily be indicative of yours or the average experience.

That being said, the CSW is an amazing wheel that is well worth its price of admission.

Oh, I should also mention I already have CSP V1s, and a TH8RS shifter, so I just need a wheel base.

The type of Racing I am going to do:
I am in an iRacing NASCAR league, where we run races that are generally 250-350 miles (I'm going to be in the equivalent of the Nationwide Series)

I also want to do the Skip Barber series, and other Open Wheel cars, and to be blunt, I like the Formula Rim a whole lot more than Thrustmaster's Ferrari Rim.

Does anyone have experience doing NASCAR races with the BMW rim? I watched a video on youtube of a guy running Trucks at it, so how does it feel for that?

The BMW rim is good for stockcar racing. The rim is pretty large in diameter and the heavier weight gives it a good dampening/heavy effect that works well for ovals. The flat bottom may be a little strange for some people though.

The T500RS rim is IMO not that good for ovals. However, you can buy a 3rd party racing wheel (real) and just snap it on. Depending on your preferences that may be a good option.

Hi friends, just bought last week a GT3 RS V2 and i´m loving the wheel ( i have a G27 too).
I´m using the G27 pedals with the GT3, but there's something wrong with the gas pedal, it doesnt fully accelerate in gt5.

This pedals work 100% fine with the G27 wheel, is this a known problem with the GT3 and G27 pedals ?

I have Fanatec csw with g27 pedals, and I have no problems!
I also have csp v2 inverted but I can not accustom to the brake with load cell !:banghead:

It seems like Fanatec has changed their policy about letting the customers change defect motors themselves.

From now on (at least in my country) you have to send the wheel in to get it fixed.
Opening the CSW base voids your waranty.

I had to send mine in too. Although I only had to send it to a Fanatec agent in london. Very fast service, the same day it was received it was repaired and posted back. Had it not been for the weekend I would have had the repaired base in 48 hours 👍
