If it's not in the car for grip, then why do manufacturers spend extra money to put in the GRIP sections of steering wheels?

One example of hundreds out there:

I really like the feel of the Performance rim ;P
Drove a few weeks ago a 135i with the complete performance package and it was great compared to the original setup.

Don't drag me into whatever the hell argument you're having, lmscorvette.
I was arguing for practicality.
I'll basically draw it out for you in crayons since you obviously just like to make assumptions about me.
Here's MY priority for a rim:
-sweat resistant
-wobble resistant
better materal used in the threads (these got stripped easily on default shaft, causing said wobble)
-button placement
-looks
-grip
-size

Grip is at the bottom of MY list. I didn't dismiss it, it just had lower priority for me.
Just like you don't have a problem with sweat, I don't have a problem with grip. I bet those t500 owners would never complain about that either. Rubber grips insanely well with bare hands. Something you've conveniently chosen to ignore. I won't be as arrogant as you and call it a fact though.

Once again, I'm arguing for practicality. CSRE is a forza wheel, yes? Most of these types of players aren't hardcore enough to put on racing gloves, racing shoes, racing helmet...
I don't give a flying toss what they use in a real car. Those guys don't need to have easy access to keys on a keyboard.

Drag you in how, I don't see your name anywhere in my post. You're only dragging yourself into arguments which seems to be a bit of trolling. So you jumping to assumptions and then saying I do is quite funny and ironic. You should think about becoming a comedian. Write it out in crayon for me, when no one hasn't been arguing with you since yesterday around this time. Also where does anyone say racing shoes or racing helmet? You going on that rant is just making this some extreme. There may not be a use for you however many use gloves, yet you make it seem like it's a redundant idea to do so.

This is just too funny, I think we'll give up on talking to you. You only make yourself look ridiculous by saying all this and then running a double standard. You want us to respect your choice, we do. Yet you don't think we should have a full vote because we use gloves and now not have access to this subject just because we want realism. Better yet, may be you should try dictator of a small island it might work for you. Thanks for the laughs your double standards will open the flood gates of satire.

Even if I had a leather wheel, I would still wear gloves for races over 30 minutes. In a 90 minute+ race, nothing is sweat resistant.

Exactly since most races here on GTP are nearly an hour not counting practice and qualifying. My hands tend to get sweaty as well and leather gets quite slippery.

Funny thing tho if this poll were posted at F1 2011 forums then you'd get Formula rim votes... At rFactor or iRacing it would be closer to a tie or Formula might win. rFactor has a huge formula rim crowd.

But at a Forza 4 or Gt5 forum of course GT rims will win easily. No point in Formula rims being on the poll. forza has no open wheelers and GT5 has only 2 which no one hardly drives

I'm guessing that most rFactor or iRacing players don't have an Xbox and are waiting for the CSW, which will cater for all tastes in Rims.

Forza and GT5 both have LMP cars, I'm sure that some players of both games would like to have both rims.

If there was a poll at F1 forums, then I am sure that the formula rim would come out on top, as I'm sure that the GT rim would win on a Forza forum.

It would be great if Thomas started a thread on his blog similar to the "Community test for ClubSport Wheel: Round 3 thread" with links to many forums that were holding a poll, this would give a more accurate result.

I think that the majority of CSR Elite owners would buy an additional rim, just to add the finishing touch of quality to an amazing wheel, whether it be formula or GT.

From what I've seen of LMP car interiors they are more akin to GT just that they are missing the middle piece. I refer to cars like the Audi R8 LMS & Acura HPD ARX

Audi R18 cockpit is more like a Formula rim

I agree, but most or all (guessing) are not round, whereas GT wheels are mostly round.

F1, LMPs and any Formula cars are usually driven in game with less than 360 degrees of rotation, so a Formula wheel is fine for that. Most other cars can be driven in game using 900 degrees of rotation, where a round wheel is required.

In Forza, I use 900 for most of the F-A class cars, then change sensitivity to OFF for the rest. The faster cars are too hard to correct an error (my opinion). I feel I get the most out of my wheel by doing this.

I personally think that there are more people in the sim racing world that would benefit from a GT rim.

@Raitziger,

Um, perhaps you missed the photo I posted above where the buttons are arranged differently too? So you want me to saw my fanatec wheel rim and redo the electronics? If I could do all that I'd order a real racing rim and install an SLI-PRO myself. And hell I'd try to sell a few too on iRacing forums too 👍

How the hell these sim hardware threads seem to end up like this, I'll never know.

Anyway - main reason I want a GT style rim is because it's more versatile; I can drive a full on race car with a GT style rim, and be happy. I can't drive a road car with an F1 rim and be happy - fwiw; if you put out both styles, I'll buy both - one for F1, the other for everything else.

But if we're voting on "one rim to rule them all"? GT style, all the way. Alcantera or leather, me no care, but it's just a more versatile format.

Leather and Alcantara I can understand. Rubber however, if you want a rubber rim just get some nitride rubber gloves or a condom for that. I mean not as an insult but if you are spending a TON of money on a sim racing wheel I want it to at least feel real.

GT5 actually has 3 formula cars- the F2007, F150 and Polyphony's own Formula GT. But I get your point.

Also an F1 rim is useable for LMP or even GT race cars (look at the new paddle shifting GT500 Nissan GTR, for example). Here's one from the 908HDi:

So, 57 votes in and the GT Rim is well in the lead.
Anyone know if there are other polls on any other forums ?
