Fanatec Opens Limited Pre-Orders for New CSL Elite McLaren GT3 Wheel

Those rotary encoders are not the main reason that all want this wheel...it is Mc Laren replica design, great size and even Xbox compatible! Racing titles will evolve very fast...btw one of the reason to do not work on all titles is that those titles see the Fanatec wheel, but don`t have implemented encoders in its profile.

How is it okay to pay a lot of money for a premium product that doesn’t do what it was advertised to do? You just buy stuff, wait 3 months for delivery, tolerate two more for a delay, and the finished product finally gets there and doesn’t work (by design) and you just “let it go”? Anyone who works hard for their money should be upset when they are ripped off.
Wow, seems to be really eating you up inside. Let it go man.

I see this product like future proof one... there is no way all racing titles to update at same moment in the name of this rim...what about CSLE PS4 wheel - officialy licensed product and wasn`t supported in GT Sport - which is Sony title in general not 3rd party...sometimes things need time to setup correctly!

I assume the discrete rotary switch positions are seen by windows as inputs of some kind, right?

In that case it should be fairly trivial to create maps to keyboard strokes (or combinations like ctrl-1, ctrl-2 etc) using third party software. From there you could use macros to achieve brake balance or fuel mapping.

For instance, if the game has a 'reset' brake bias mapping option, for every position you just map "reset bias, down, down, down, down" to whatever position you want.

Even if there isn't a reset functions, you can achieve the same by moving the bias to an extreme (forward or back) and then reverse to position you want. For instance, assuming there are 10 bias positions and you wanted to set it 2 positions from full rear, you would macro the following "down, down, down, down, down, down, down, down, down, down, up, up". This probably could be shortened with trial and error, but this is the basic principle.

Possible third party program is https://joytokey.net/en/.

Not as good as direct game support, but it should allow at least some mapping.

Future proof is good. And I do appreciate everything else about the rim. I know you guys think I’m crazy for obsessing about these switches but being DOA leaves a huge ergonomic hole in the center of it. Lets all hope the dev support comes sooner rather than later.

Nope, joytokey won’t work because I believe windows like on my sli F1 Bodnar board will see them as axis which can’t be mapped to individual buttons.

SLIMax manager Pro on the other hand does and because it’s a Fanatec wheel you get it for free. You still have the same issue that it isn’t real support where you can set different pre-determined ABS or TCS levels though.

In practice rotary switches aren’t half as useful as you’d think and a simple rotary encoder is all we need as sim racers.

The MPS (multi position switches) work with iRacing and many more games will follow. It is a chicken and egg problem. The game devs will not support it if there is no hardware and we cannot send a wheel to the game devs if the firmware is not finalized.

In this case we need to set a new standard and there are three more Fanatec wheels in development which will feature MPS so we are confident that the game devs will support it.

Not meaning to rain on your parade but remind me how much they were selling for, €180? That’s an absolute bargain and certainly not premium in the sim racing world, not even in Fanatec’s own line given it’s a CSL rim.

That’s cheaper than the Heusinkveld handbrake I just bought! If you ever do get into premium wheels you are in for a shock because the real premium stuff is handmade, at least 4-5 times the cost and you need to wait for it to be built.

Sure it might be a bit annoying initially but how often do any of us actually adjust ABS/TCS mid race and how many simulate the engine map? Pretty sure in the real world they are for the endurance races to keep the same car balance as the tyres wear and minimise traction loss which would wear the tyres more and the same with engine maps; again how many people especially on consoles do races long enough for that to be a factor?

Yeah.. Thanks. You guys are better than this. You don’t need to rely on promoting cool features that you know at least half of potential buyers will not be able to currently use without telling them. At least put an asterisk next to it. (..currently not supported in most applications) Unless that would take up too much ad space- or sell a few less wheels..

Offering a promotion price (they stated it would likely go up) was in exchange for pre-paying and putting up with possible delays. It is not an excuse for false advertising. Why is this such a difficult concept? I am not ready to leave Fanatec as a customer, but if they screw up to make a few more dollars Im gonna say something, and so should you! Its not really a bargain price if its most distinguishing features dont actually work. I never said it was over priced, just sleazily marketed.

Sorry I missed - do you have one of the GT3 rims?

I am experiencing Deja Vu...

I think it isn't always fair to blame a company everytime for misrepresenting a product feature/price. Consumers should also take responsibility for their own choices. When making an investment, purchase, loan and basically any choice in life (important or not): DYOR! (Do your own research)

When using AXE deodorant women will not flock to you... Hamburgers at mcdonalds do NOT look like the pictures... Red Bull will NOT actually give you wings...etc.

Well, I think Fanatec gave correct info for that rim, however I will disagree with you for the general idea of your post. If you are right - we need to be paranoid investigators for everything. Life is too short to do a research for everything!
Anyway the rim is great and have great features! On the release it is normal to be with features that are too new and innovative. Fanatec is well known with the innovations. Games need to run faster after Fanatec!:)

You don’t need to do extensive research. But even in my business it is amazing how people do not read the price list, which is provided up front and complain afterwards how expensive something is and I am misleading and charging too much.

Ah well... that’s life... anyhow... I am curious about the wheel rims in “development”! Fanatec did recently sign a license agreement with Bentley...

I understand your point now, and as I help with customers to one of the big companies involved in gaming and simracing - I know well. But here is the power of the community - when someone is not right in the complains - to explain to him our points of view.

Krassi that has been my point all along. Unless they recently changed their web page, which I hope they do for others’ sake, it says nothing of the extremely limited support of these switches. By their own admission in this thread, only one game on pc supports them. I would not have gone through the waiting and uncertainty of pre ordering this rim had I known that. You are right. From now forward I have to be a paranoid investigator of Fanatec because that describes what happened here perfectly. Check their website you will see.

If you think that this is false advertising and if you are not happy with it then we are happy to refund you. You do not have to keep something what you do not like.

It was not our intention to mislead anybody and it is actually true that not all functions work on all games and all platforms. It always depends on what gets supported and this is trie not only for the MPS.

So you are pissed that don`t work as advertised? I will buy it on a price you paid if you are disapointed! Jeez, guys - find reasons to be happy instead of being sad or angry for nothing!
Ok lets say you send me 170 bucks but when you get it you realize two more things besides the rotarys aren’t working that you assumed would. Would you understand then?

The marked part - what is incorrect? Do you have those installed on your rim? I believe you have them. Fanatec is working on the new features to be added ASAP. Don`t forget that we speak now for rim that is not released officially. You are from the lucky preorders - that`s why you have it. It is completely new Fanatec feature and devs need time to add it. This is more to the devs corner IMO. They are responsible all decent hardware to be usefull and working on their titles. Unless you think - Fanatec need to have dev team and to build Fanatec patches for all racing titles;)

What you mean two more? I understand you give me just example... I can say that - I understood that I need to wait when I had CSLE PS4 Official licensed wheel and was not supported by GT Sport. I knew that is up to Poliphony to make it work. It is all related to devs - they have the magic power. Fanatec can`t have the control over the sims. The only possible thing for Fanatec is to make in the firmware option - for example rotary clockwise to be possible to be mapped as button from the rim and counter clockwise to other button from the rim ( to be usefull on a consoles). That`s it!

I was heading toward a pc setup anyway so I’m keeping it. My concern at this point is for all the console-only owners. If you truly don’t want to mislead console folks you should disclose this information in the wheel’s features. A footnote symbol next to “Two twelve way multi position switches” would state: “not currently supported in all platforms”. It is reasonable and expected for all of a products features to work when delivered unless stated otherwise. If you truly don’t want to mislead future console buyers, add the disclaimer. Simple as that.

I think you doing storm in a glass of water;) All new features need some time - to be added in the sims.

Please show me where it says those switches aren’t currently supported on any racing game except one. So if I’m reading through that long list of features what other things should I question might not work? You made a good point with the paranoid investigator comment. That is what this is about. I had no reason to think these, or any other, switches wouldn’t work. I personally REALLY REALLY REALLY wanted these particular switches to work.

They work - the proper statement must be on the websites of these sims - "We are sorry, but for now we can`t cover all new and innovative hardware from Fanatec!":)))
