Fastest Car In Your Family?

Wow this thread is back eh?
Well in terms of immediate family....
My Dad: 2006 Mazda Tribute 3.0L V6 with about 200hp
Me: 1988 Mazda RX-7 GX with about 150ish hp? I mean a K&N filtercharger, straight pipes, no cats and two cherry bombs must atleast up the hp by two? Haha. So I guess I have the slightly faster vehicle.

Dad: 2006 Dodge Charger R/T
Me: 1994 Mercedes-Benz (320TE is easier to type, and sounds better!!) E320 Wagon

Acceleration? I no can has. But the changing of Intake runners at 3000 rpm is a neat trick. It's even neater under acceleration. I blew the doors off a pathetically riced out CRX (poor Honda..) when merging on Alt. US-69 back home in Kansas.
It's not "Fast", but I'll get better mileage at 85-90 than the dodge will. :D

W124 = Highway cruiser.

I win.
Koenignogseggseggseggggabbaseggviking cc8s.
0-60 really frickin fast.
Some relative in LA owns it.
next is my uncle's Viper ACR.

and the best is my uncles ute that runs 10's
holden hk ute with a hk monaro engine (crashed the monaro and put the engine in the ute) detroit locking diff, mikey thompson tyres, tubbed massively and a dry shot nitrous system.

I win.

I'd like to issue a big, fat "prove it" to the pair of you.

Since this thread has been re-run, I'd like to declare that the 350Z may not be the fastest car in my family for long.

My Grandad and his ladyfriend have decided that, due to old age they'll sell either her Impreza Wagon, his Bora or possibly both, and buy themselves a treat to celebrate old age.

He took me to one side to ask me about a couple of car's he's been looking into from the "golden age" (his words, not mine) of motoring.

He's narrowed his search to a Countach (not sure if he'd settle for a replica, it would work out much cheaper if he did) or an E Type he can do some work on.
I know his chances are slim, but it's nice to think there may be a Lamborghini in the family after long.

Although, I don't know if the 30 year old Countach or 40 year old E Type would be the fastest in my family. Could either of them outrun a 350Z?

That's if he can even find one, they're rare enough anywhere, much less in the sparsely populated villages in Lancashire.

Depressingly, it's probably a Merc CLK Diesel. That or a Golf GT, again diesel (note GT not GTI). Why must my relatives have such slow cars?

Not strictly family but its my girlfriends brothers, and i live with them so meh...

Its competitors were:
Citroen C3 1.1 (girlfriend mum)

Vauxhall Astra 1.8 auto (dad)

Nissan Navara (unsure of model, uncle)

An E-type would certainly be slower than a 350Z, but with much lower levels of grip, yet still plenty of power, an E-type would probably give 90% of drivers a much more fun driving experience.

Early, 30 year old (& slightly slower) Countach's are now going for silly money - brand new F430 sort of price range. Since they only made 400 or so, probably very difficult to get hold of too. A good LP5000qv, which is probably the most common, will go for £45-55k at the moment.

If your Grandad wants something equally flash and otherworldly, how about a Testarossa? at this moment in time they are probably cheaper than they ever will be at £28-38k for a fairly decent one.

Classic & Sports Car magazine is by far the best place to look for 'classic' cars in the UK.

So that kind of "family?" Well, my uncle has a few Porsches from before 1985, which while not too blindingly fast, are really sweet rides. We're also thinking about getting a newish German car in the ~$30k range. I'm pushing for a C320 sport.

Well there's a specialist car dealer near him that had a Countach for sale recently. No clue about what kind it is unless we went to have a look, but this was months ago, no telling if it's still there.
As far as price goes, They should get £10k for the Bora (unsure what year, but it's the 1.9 TDi) and Impreza (2.0, again unsure what year).

With enough effort they could probably make up to 30K, so a Countach may be wishful thinking.

It's really just surface digging at the moment, nothing solid and he only has ideas at the moment. The Testarossa is indeed a lovely piece of kit, but I've heard horror stories about maintainance costs. Mind you, a Countach could be even worse.

I've tried to steer him towards an early 80's 911, but he's really not a Porsche man. Which bothers me.

I'll suggest a Testarossa next time I see him.👍

Maybe by 2010 we'll have found one for sale. Anywhere. :)

Howz about a Porsche 928? a really good, low milage one will cost no more than £12k. An exceptional one will set him back no more than £16k. They really are a bargain at the moment. Although prices have started to rise in the past 18 months, buy a good one now and the value of it is only likely to increase over the medium to long term 👍 - You couldn't say the same for a 350Z!

Although they're a complex car with plenty to go wrong, they rarely do, they're pretty bullet-proof - many people use still use them as everyday drives, i'd have one like a shot. They are much more comfortable than a E-type or a Countach, and probably more so than a 350Z, which is a fairly stiffly sprung GT.

Well lets see....between my brothers 1986 Chevy Siverado that's broke down at the moment, my wife's 1993 Toyota Corolla, my dad's motor home, my mom's Honda CRV, or my 2008 Subaru Legacy 2.5 GT, I'd have to say the Subaru wins hands down.

In all seriousness, what's been done to the engine? It's running a 327, right?

i havent spoken to him for ages and my grandparents were telling me his engine blew and he built something even better, so i dont know what it's running now

but when he was running high 10's he had the 327 and a dry shot

i can't remember the exact brands of parts he has. but it was a custom made stainless straight pipe exhaust and most the internals weren't stock
it also had a B&M shifter with the 4 speed box, i dont have any pics of the engine but i do have a pic of the exterior but its on my dads phone so if ya want i'll get it

and my dads mazda

My mom's '03 Malibu does 0-60 in probably between 7-9 seconds (can't find the time anywhere), my Integra does it between 7-8 seconds. My car also doesn't have a speed governor (its limited by aerodynamics) so I'd say my Integra is faster :) Her car has 28 more hp than my car, but weighs a lot more.

I like my Golf GTI, reasonably quick.

But my sister, the lucky cow, drives a BMW M3 CSL (2003) :grumpy:
0-62mph - 4.9secs
Top Speed mph - 155mph

Well the fastest on I have ever driven is my grandpa's 2004 Nissan Maxima. It has the 3.5 that puts out 265 horsepower and goes from 0-60 in 6.3 seconds. But in all my family my dad HAD some fast cars including but not limited to RX-7, bmw 2002 turbo, trans am, vette, and a gto. All of which before my time. Also my uncle had an nsx and some other luxury cars with high horsepower. Again before my time, now he has a family but is itching to get a sports car for fun.

I'm not sure to be honest. 2005 Mustang but it's the V6 and is my gma's. Hardtop.

Uhm... I think my 2003 Chevrolet Cavalier LS Sport takes the cake for fastest car though.

Not that it's that fast. Plenty for a 15 year old.

In most countries 15 year-olds aren't even allowed to ride a scooter.

Driving age is governed by states here. And the minimum in any state is 15, I believe. Crazy.

you also have to be 16 to get your permit in Pennsylvania, but that might get switched to 18:ouch:(i am 15 right now so that would suck).
Anyway, my dad has had some fast cars before my time: a green barracuda, a couple mercury cougars, i think he even had a thunderbird supercoupe, a beat mustang. and he had this until i was about 3 or 4 years old, it was a black super bee with a red stripe across the back. he really misses it and kind of gets depressed when you talk about it. i wish he never sold it.
but right now the fastest cars in my family right now are in the following order: Dodge ram 1500 hemi sport(K&N air filter), my brother's 1997 Chrysler Sebring LXi coupe(no mods other than new infinti speakers), and my mom's mercury mountaineer(my freinds and i nicknamed it "the tank",also no mods).

My father has a E46 BMW coupe, a fun little car to drive, especially in the snow. With the right tires, of course.

Next is a Toyota Sienna, and while it has more horsepower, it weighs a lot more.
