Yes, but had it not been in Most Wanted, and gotten the fame it did, it most likely wouldn't have been included in the game.

Good point. Without the Original Most Wanted, it wouldn't have been in the NFS Heroes Pack, nor the DLC for NFS 2015. And I wouldn't exist either.

When it comes to road legal race cars, the AM DBRS9 is an example. That car is a street legal car but retains the race car look of the original DBRS9 GT3 car. The interior has also never changed.

Are there any more street legal race cars but retains its original race car look?

The only NFS game on console that I completed (Not counting NFS Nitro on DS; that game is an abomination) was Carbon, but I have to go with the M3 GTR in Most Wanted. The E46 M3 is one of my favorite European sports cars, and giving it race car performance only makes me love it more. I still have to complete the game at some point. :/

Well, in Illinois at least, for a car to be street legal it needs to have functioning head & tail lights, fixed licence plates front and rear, rear licence plate illumination, side mirrors (and an in car mirror), seatbelts (I imagine racing harnesses also suffice), windshield glass (helmet must be worn if there is none), fixed fuel tank and it must use road legal tyres. There might be some other, more specific, criteria but that's what I've been able to find.

So I imagine most touring and GT cars would be road legal if they are given racing slicks although some (such as modern GT1 racers) might not be due to lacking a rear view mirror. I know cars like the Saleen S7-R and Lamborghini Murcielago R-GT use a screen in the car hooked up to cameras in the rear bumper but I don't know if that's a legal replacement for a rear view mirror. I'm also pretty sure all open wheel race cars are illegal unless they have had some major changes, and even then the legality could depend on your area.

As for cars from the factory, I imagine any of the original GT3 cars (2006-2010) would be road legal as well as any cup cars (like the Ginetta G40 and Porsche 911 GT3 Cup) as I believe they don't use full racing slicks and meet all the other criteria listed above. It's also common for people to build replicas of classic race cars that are completely road legal.

This is a good example of an F1 car (1997 Lola T97/30) modified to meet UK road legality regulations:

Speaking of iconic cars, I love how NFS The Run's car list is studded with homages to all previous NFS games. Heck, it even has the RWB Porsche and predicted the future NFS 2015  Despite making bad games for their last few years, I can honestly say The Run is a fitting end to Black Box's legacy 👍

You know what car I don't see people talk about much? The Integra from the first race sequence in Underground. Not the most iconic or recognizable car from the series, but it does have some significance.

True, but remember, not only was it in Most Wanted 05, it was also in NFS Carbon (Also from 2005).

It might be possible to take a race car and convert it to make it road legal, so the M3 GTR in NFS could be street legal, but it's not likely.

It kind of is Street legal, but when you go over a speed bump, there goes your front bumper. You can raise the ride height up to fix that problem, and it might look like the original M3 from MW 05, and less like the M3 from 2012, and 2015. The car itself is like... over $60,000 USD I think, I don't remember.

I like the Most Wanted 2005's BMW M3 GTR E46 Touring Edition, it's pretty cool since it does use a real life body kit from the German Touring Car league, and I got so mad when Razor just destroyed the M3 because he just wants it, and I remember that vividly.

The others from the games should be mention the Integra Type R from Underground 1, such a good widebody... And, I guess Caleb's GTO is another mention. There are much more that should be on the list, it's hard to choose so I defaulted to the Most Wanted M3 GTR.
