Paul Stoddart has revealed that Ferrari are subsidised by the other nine teams on the grid.

The Minardi boss made the dramatic disclosure in an interview that appears in the latest edition of F1 Racing magazine.

Asked if he thought the FIA were under the thumb of Ferrari, Stoddart replied: “No, I just think... Ferrari are special.

“Why do all the other teams pay money, real chequebook-out money, to Ferrari every year, under the Concorde Agreement?

“Why on earth, with our tight finances, do Minardi, for example, have to pay money to Ferrari every year? There’s no good reason for it.

"The answer we’re given is that it’s ‘in recognition of their historical contribution to the sport’.”

Stoddart is also unhappy with the influence that the world champions have over the sport’s regulations.

He said: “There’s talk, and I can’t say if it’s true or not, that the 2005 regulations were written by, among others, 18 people from Ferrari.

"It’s only paddock talk, of course – but then again, Max has openly conceded that the FIA consulted Ferrari, hasn’t he?

“I’ve got a lot of respect for Ferrari, particularly for Michael (Schumacher), but if a team are totally dominating the championship, and have done for years and will do so for the next few years, then it adds insult to injury to let these people write the rules because it’s fairly obvious they’ll write them in a way that suits them.

“Believe me, Ferrari are going to win the 2005 and 2006 titles, and there’s nothing any of us can do about it.”

Oh no, that is such a controversial statement... :irked:

Can someone give a brief description on the concorde agreement?
'Yes I think its where the teams agree to stay in F1 for a certain time period. Its like a contract. Word is Ferrari singed one with FIA to stay untill 2012. Not sure though let me try and find the article.

What the hell is going on up in here?Teams pay money to Ferrari. What for? What bullcrap. 👎

Old-ish news, I find it hard to believe though. And hopefully other teams will be able to beat Ferrari!

Well if (mostlikely) the Williams look like the one in your 'tar, they won't beat Ferrari. McLaren's will be blowing up again. BAR will be competitive If Renaults second driver is ahead of Fernando. His b/f Flavio will order that driver to pull over, stuffing up the whole race. So no. Ferrari will win. That's my proof.

I find the whole Stoddart outburst quite surprising. I know that Paul has always said what's on his mind. Whilst I think that that's refreshing, I also think that he might often do better to have a little think about what he's going to say before he opens his mouth.

And the 'dossier' that's on its way around the FIA at the moment, which Stoddart sent, seems to indicate to me that he's playing the pawn role at the moment.

Stoddard has every right to be pissed off, i mean come on he is struggling down there at the back of the grid the last bloody thing that i'd want to be doing is paying the top teams who can afford what ferrari's budget is...damn what is it something like $450million wasn't it or was it $350million...don't ask me i can't remember :dunce: .

About ferrari winning the next 2 seasons, its hard to tell cos in last years off season testing the MP4-19 times were promising but it blew up all the time and was way off pace in Melbourne. Ferrari are still the strongest contender for this years title, but im going to hang it out. I'm only 16 so when shumacher, Todt, Byrne and Brawn retire ferrari will start to go downhill and go back to mid field runners like they were in the 1980's and williams and mclaren will be battling for the championship just like the good old days. Those key personell are all that's holding ferrari together. Williams have a young driver Webber and a new technical director Sam michael who is pretty young. Mclaren have the best driver line up this year i dont care what anyone says. The only possible thing is that when schumacher retires Alonso goes to Ferrari but all of the key team members wont be there and alonso would have a hell of a job holding that team together.

I think Ferrari is very strong, but it's strength is also its Achilles Heel, as soon as the people who are holding Ferrari together I believe they won't be able to continue their momentum. Although this continuity is their strength now I believe it may be their downfall in the end, as they are not flexible enough to cope.

yeh but shumacher might go off the boil and retire early, you just cant look into the future like that, especially into formula one. Like Murray Walker said "IF is F1 spelt backwards"

His contract ends after 06 anyway, I'm aware he could get another year with the snap of his fingers but would he bother?

Blake

It depends if he still enjoys racing. He still does now while he's at the top but if he started dropping down the order he might change his mind.

a little off topic but where abouts in NSW do you live Blake?

Ferrari have stated that there's a contract there for as long as he wants it. I had also heard a rumour that he can quit at any time, but he has to privately give the team a year's notice.

Yes I read that he had a contract aslong as he wants it. It also heard he could quit at anytime, but I never heard anything about a years notice, it seems a bit much.

Blake

And without looking at that interview, I could have told you that Ferrari are going to win. Only a disaster like Shumacher breaking a like a few seasons ago will stop that from happening. Not that I want that to happen or anything :mischievous:

Another reason why Alonso won't win. Flavio and the team built a special car for Fernando. This one has two seats, so as you can see it's gonna be heavy, But that second seat located behind Fernando, is Flavios seat. He will be accompanying Fernando in Grand Prix races. To save the tinniest ever bit of weight they drilled a hole all of the way through Fernandos seat. It's about 2-3 inches in diameter. I shouldn't have to explain more. Surely you guys can see where I'm going with this :ill:.

yeah. totally.

what ever happened to that arrows 2 seater? that thing was badass.

Stinky Chicken
Why would TGF need convincing? He's been racing there since '96 and he's had nothing but success.
It tok him until 00 to win a championship, he did have more success than Ferrari had for years but he didn't look like he had what he had with Benneton. He finally won the championship in 2000, lucky for him too, if he hadn't Ferrari would have given him the boot.

He joined for the 1996 season, took the championship to the final round in 1997, then again in 1998. Broke his leg in 1999, then won Championships in 2000, '01, '02, '03 and '04. It's a reasonable run of success in anyone's book.

You know, 2-3 inches custom helmets are not difficult to make :) ( with a visor of course )

I still wouldn't call it "Nothing but success", considering the team he joined though I guess it could be seen that way.
