Here some thoughts
I didn't follow the GT academy events/ live events in the past. What I know is, there wasn't this DR-system existing like now, which, after all, represents the racing skill of a player very accurate. Therefore, with all the FIA seasons at home -even with the disconnects and so on- the truely very best players have made it to the regional events.
I am not aware of a significant amount of superfast players, who didn't make it there due to disconnections or other unfair things (yes, we know, my Brits friends,
@mclarenLB especially, its unfair that you have just to many fast players

👍).
@Tidgney, yes, the events had the many discussed issues which lead to a mentionable luck- factor. But after all, all the big names ended in the front places, like yourself. The only very-top driver what is in my mind right now who didn't made it to the WF in Nations is
@ZokyCRO, but it wasn't bad luck, he said that he just couldn't nail the both qualification laps (but good that he is there in Manufacturers).
What I want to say is, the world champion in 2018 will be truely
the world champion. Since the events got also better by lowering the luck- factor from time to time, there is no way that a even-slightly-not-very-supertop skilled driver will get the trophy.
An another point,
@Tidgney, I am sorry but I don't want you to win.
Why?
Simple answer, if you win and get a contract as a real driver, you cannot live- stream anymore !!! Who will we watch then ?!?!?! You cannot do this to us !!!
