All I know is that the NAT has something to do with firewalls and stuff. If it's NAT1 You have nothing in the way at all and connect directly to internet meaning you will have less compability issues. NAT2 seems to be the normal way and seems to be able to connect to each other and NAT1 guys. NAT3 though seems to only be able to connect to NAT1 hosts. I have no real idea why it works that way but that is my experience of things,

Here is an explaination on NAT types...

NAT Type 1 is when you are connected directly to your modem with your ps3 by Ethernet cable. This is the best way to see if the problem is your equipment or a ISP or sever issue. So always try this first to see if it corrects your issue. If your problem is solved by a direct connection to your modem then the problem is somewhere with your router/ps3 settings or your equipment is starting to fail. If it does not correct the issue then you need to contact your ISP about the issue for help.

NAT Type 2 is when you are connected through a router into a modem. Now you can have three types of NAT type 2, open, moderate, strict. These are associated with router firewalls, ports and upnp settings. Best way to get open is to set your ps3 up with a static ip address in a DMZ in your router. Explained below.

NAT Type 3 is port restricted. This means by default specific ports an options like chat, video, etc are disabled. This is usually associated with a combo DSL modem/router setups an/or your ISP is blocking the ports. If you have this setup, the guide may not be helpful to you. If so you need to contact your ISP for help or possibly buy your own modem and separate router, so you can have access to your own router admin settings, that a DSL combo modem/router usually prohibits you from having access to.

From the experience, NAT is also ISP dependent, I have a friend from overseas who played GT5, he had NAT 2, wired and his PS3 connected to a router. He changed ISP to get better speed, and all of a sudden he got NAT 3, he had the same old setup, with static IP. He tried to fix it by resetting router, PS3 to no avail, and in the end he gave the ISP a call, they said it's the way ISP does his connection, and told him even with direct to modem connection, there's now way to change it to NAT 2. Strangely though, he almost never had any incompatibility issues, just random disconnection and black screen.

This is only true if you have no control over your router. You can easily switch your NAT type by changing settings on your router. You can add the physical port that your PS3 is connected to the DMZ, which means that your PS3 is directly connected to the internet and your router isn't doing any network address translation (NAT 1). If you have all the correct ports for PSN forwarded, or have UPnP enabled, your router is taking the network traffic coming into your external IP address and routing it to the correct internal IP address, which is NAT 2. NAT 3 just means that you don't have all of the correct ports open or your router doesn't support UPnP/doesn't have UPnP enabled.

As far as my race goes, you can find a lot of reasons for a 'measly' 3rd place... maybe it's just me cracking under pressure (not the first time), maybe the fact I couldn't focus on driving when in a pack, maybe my way of braking early into corners which allowed Carracer and Phuochyoughuchuoughg to catch up easily... but one reason was certainly that there was no night vision whatsoever.

The night vision was no problem as long as you kept behind someone else.. then you had double lights. It was only once I passed dylan that i had real problems with darkness, but that was only one lap and I could take it pretty easy after dylan made some mistakes. :)

I just want daytime racing next time. :|

Preferably in an FWD of course. Not sure what is my view on the Cube series (bet I don't have that car either) but it could be good practice for my NASCAR career. :D

The Cube series probably won't be much practise for anything, except maybe your intelligence, when to make your move and such. :P But it's great fun, and don't require hours of practise. ^^

"Subcompact Yaris @ Deep Forest Econo-Enduro"

Who here is available for this possibility?
Sunday 2 September @ 4pm US EDT / 9pm UK BST / 10pm CEST / 20:00 UTC/GMT

Yaris U Euro Sport Edition (J) '00
@ Deep Forest

same everything else as this (time frame, settings, etc.)
(I think the same Vitz can be a substitute?)
(They're both Sunday Cup prize cars and easy enough to get.)

I thought of this because back in the spring, my sister came to visit and she decided to go "economy subcompact" for a rental car, and they gave her a Yaris and she said ti was the most awful rental she ever had!
When she came back to visit in the summer, she got some kind of standard size Chevrolet because we planned a road trip and she said no way would she want to take a road trip in that Yaris.

It's a good beginners nascar. :D

That sounds great and the time is good for me, i just have to ask my girlfriend if she can stand another sleepless night ;)

Anyway, i've driven a Yaris, they're not that bad? Much rather have a nice little toyota than a chevy :P

Agreed 👍... Unless the Chevy is question is a 2004 Lacetti saloon or 2009 Cruze CS . (I own a little 1.25 Fiesta '98, my first car and it's perfect :D)

Well she was talking about comfort & power. (My sister that is.)

I forget what Chevy it was. But it had a bit more "go", and was definitely more comfy on the tushies.

I've really started hating chevy cruze since they have been so dominant in wtcc. Just can't stand them. ^^

True for connection through a router, but he also tried direct connection from PS3 to modem, same thing, and the ISP admitted that they intercepted his outgoing connection, he tried to run namebench to find the fastest DNS, it failed due to ISP interception.

I have my PS3 connected to my laptop, it shared the internet via ICS. My laptop is in direct connection to modem. I have no issues with other online game, PSN download or game update could reach ISP max speed, and I have NAT 2, I tried direct modem to PS3 once, also still NAT 2.

And BTCC/STCC :sly:. The Cruze is a top notch car and will go down as one of the touring car greats 👍.

How could you hate that . Anyway yeah the Yaris race sounds fun :).

That's not in the game is it?

And yeah, I'm doing the bspec sunday cup in an alternate acct right now to get an unmod'd Yaris.
For some reason my Yaris had window weight reduction. :boggled:
How embarrassing is that? I must've used it for something!!!

I was sorta hoping you'd have turned independent by now... able to join anything if it's OK for you ;)

Yeah I know.. really hate it :P Probably a little bit Yvan Mullers fault, that arrogant bastard ;)

That sounds... kinda odd... and probably has a double meaning... :nervous:

I hope we can still be friends (and possibly teammates) though. :(

I never have double meanings in what I say, how could you ever think such a thing about me?

Would gladly be teammates again, if you find me a good championship to be it in. ^^
