In football it's now a standard procedure that if you take down a player one-on-one without getting the ball you're going off. Poor decision by the South African keeper.
It's generally considered that, unless you commit a foul that prevents a goal-scoring opportunity - which this wasn't - a penalty is sufficient... errr... penalty and a red card shouldn't be considered. If the foul prevents a goal-scoring opportunity then it's a professional foul for which the mandatory punishment is a red card wherever the foul is committed.
