Final Quick Match Races 2-7-18

It'll likely be the Miura if the GSXR isn't allowed there but there are some also ran cars like the KTM, 111R and RX8.

There are plenty of other cars that can keep the above cars honest though. They may not stand a chance against the good drivers in the regular choice 500pps but they'll give a good challenge to the less well driven ones. A surprise and well earned win is so much more satisfying than winning in a car you're expected to win in.

Anyone tried the Roadster event yet? That's the one I've got my eye on. Approximately 800kg, 250hp and while it isn't my favourite track, one make racing on it should make it more than bearable.

I spent way too long trying to get into the Miata event. Seems it'll be fun. Failing to join, after a while I went to my garage and tuned it for a bit. SH tires are perfect for it. Tried to get back in numerous times. Nope. I noticed when I started there were all the little figure icon things lit up but the second time around there was only one. Lame.

Full to empty sounds like one of the network issues that have plagued them lately and the first day of new QM's is always a nightmare to get a slot as it is.

Hopefully people will settle into their goto event quick and even the load.

The Roadster event lives up to its promise - mixture of good racers, and those that drive way too fast into all if the corners and lose loads of time! It's great fun to watch them coming up fast behind you as you brake, and then disappearing into the scenery......

Lots of fun fast cars at the 500pp Roma race! Make sure your cars have Sports Soft tyres so they show up in the "Change Car" list as "Eligible Cars".

Tamora by Arrakis Speed Shop is an easy drive. Super light. I loosed the LSD as I'm comfortable with cars rotating a bit more after the 480pp Death Valley seasonal. Brake bias 3/3 instead of 3/2 also helped me get into the turns a bit better.

Dino 246 GT from another Matterhorn tarmac seasonal, originally at 450pp. You can max out the power and could even do oil change, as it stops at 497pp without one. Again, I loosened the LSD but only for Acceleration - adding nearly 100bhp made the outside rear spin a lot when I mashed the gas trigger!

This is a very dynamic car, a much harder driver but slightly faster lap times. An optimised lap would be quite a bit faster than the Tamora. I couldn't really battle other drivers with the Dino. Generally I just brakes early on-line, they dive to the inside and run wide. I follow the driving line and it has mega grip, also a different tyre noise to help understand where it is.

I haven't heard this different tyre sound when you are on the grippy line before. Is it unique to this event or track?

GSX-R/4 can be used but so far I can drive faster than nearly all of them. Huge variety in most grids, only one GSX-R in general. One race I saw a high 1m12s by a GSX-R which is a time I cannot beat with the Dino. But they were 6 seconds behind due to a lap 1 mistake and finished 4 seconds behind.

EDIT: Ignore the Indianapolis race. There is no penalty for ramming, so it's a ridiculous demolition derby where laggy players just drive through everyone. Anyone who tries to ram them back simply ghosts through. (Also, SRF forced on.)

Just when PD seemed to be getting the hang of clean AI in the Seasonal races and driving standards were improving in other Quick Match events...

Maybe this event is a 'honey pot' to attract all the dirty drivers to keep the other events clean. I hope it works, rather than inspiring bad players to re-learn how to trick the penalty system in the other events so they can ram the increasingly clean racers.

EDIT2: 600pp race cars around Brands Hatch Indy is a very short, fast race using Racing Soft tyres. Cr.500,000 in 3m21s when I won in a grid with just 4 cars.

TS030 with @SW__10 seasonal tune plus @Mini Stiggy ballast from Apricot Hill. Possibly tweaked a bit for Willow Springs seasonal by myself as I've put "Willow" at the end of the tune sheet name.

Could increase the LSD acceleration because there's so much grip and G force.

EDIT3: Mazda Roadster Touring Car around Cape Ring is actually good fun, once you loosen it up a bit. Adding about 100kg of ballast allows more power. It can be used to slightly change the weight balance, although too much just causes wheelspin.

Sports Hard tyres mean the hairpins are very, very, very slow! The inside kerbs are made of superglue so brake early, turn early and enter on the kerb at a tangent. Lifting off the throttle can turn the car better than touching the brake, even lightly.

I've got no interest in the MX5 event, I despise Cape Ring. I'm not a big fan of Indy either, but I enjoy the LFA too much to care. SS fit them well, much better than the last event using SS at Tsukuba, when they should have been on CS. I'd still prefer SH though.

Took me almost an hour to find a lobby. When I finally got one, I started with 5 empty places in front of me at the very back of the pack.

I've just been in a full race room with Mr P's 500pp Roadster (tuned down to 464) and the car seems so well suited to the track. A full 500 would have served better but it's still fun to throw around what used to be a dull track for me. It was just waiting for the right car.

Got my time down to 5:41.9 (high 23 laptime) in that but the gearbox is miles out. I've got 4200 final but I'm still messing with 1st and 2nd gear for a better standing start. No idea what to do with the diff but I'm guess it doesn't have to be that low for the amount of power.

Yes I've been using this tune too - works really well. I've just dropped first gear all the way to the left, moved final gear to the right a bit, acceleration diff settings to 20, and front anti roll bar to 3.

Others must be doing as per BenMillard above, adding weight and increasing power, as I've had people making fast getaways and pulling away on the straight, but you can usually catch them up on the twiddly bits.

I wish it was the longer Brands Hatch track. My first time on it I plowed through most of the cones where they have the full course blocked off, lol.

@Kossie this is what you can do at Brands Hatch if you try... so try!

Cheers

HEY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I remember that race, lol. That's me in 4th. I got punted a few times into the sand traps by someone.

I would like to be racing in these events now, but I don't think the servers want me to race anytime soon. Good luck to the lucky few who get to race.

I just saw a guy pull a 1.22.9XX in the Roadster QM...crickey. I'm using @Motor City Hami's Roadster setup to the tune of mid 1.24s.

I had a few races against you tonight but I was using my Digtater account. Some good racing go on in there.👍

Still messing Mr P.s tune I linked earlier but I've got my times to the high 22s and a 36.6 total. The supercharger route with (I think) 97kg of ballast got me into the 22's as I was losing too much time waiting for the turbos to spool up on the slower corner exits. The amount of ballast doesn't affect the car too much and it helps get the power down off the grid. I think I got the holeshot in 90% of my races tonight from the 5th row and up. It felt like I was hacking.

I saved the replay to watch the lap so I'll be admiring your handiwork and anaylizing your lines...so if your ears start burning, you know why.

I'm managing high 1.23s now and yeah I think you're right about the supercharger being the way to go...those poor souls who haven't figured it out though...

I try to be as clean as possible in these QMs but damn, some of them make me feel like I'm playing a destruction derby sim.

I've now gone the supercharger route too - it's 1 second a lap quicker for me, although the extra weight does make the car spin easily when you're in one of the 'destruction derbys'! Does help by getting you off the line quickly, hopefully ahead of the trouble.....

Low 1.24 for me, but I've been seeing the drivers running 1.22s too.

Yeah, the car's on tenterhooks mid corner with the weight and especially if you try and get the power down early. I haven't touched any of the suspension settings (to compensate for the weight) as I'm clueless on that and don't want to break what I'm just about coping with.

Same here......

Where I am with the tune now:

Power 91.6 with supercharger and 90kg of ballast. 229bhp and 3.86kg/bhp

Praiano's suspension: 140/90, 11.15/8.15, 4/7, 7/4, 4/6, 0/0, -.05/0 and 5/12/5

Gearbox 5500 initial final and 112mph then 3.020, 2.151, 1.672, 1.390, 1.133 and 4200 final gear.

Easy 5:37-8s and low 23s with a sloppyish lap but I've had it down to 22.5 on a tidy lap.

Still working out how to take that last bend as I think you'll really chop some time off with a good exit. Stopping the front right sliding out is doing my head in when I try for an early exit.

anyone know what's the best car for the Rome track?

I'm doing low 1:10 most of the time with the Miura ;)

Never saw someone in the 1:10 so far.

Other notable cars i've tried:
GSXR/4 - low 1:11
NSX-R Prototype - mid 1:11

The fastest driver I saw was a girl doing low 1:11 with the HSC, dirfting every corners, faster than mne at the start but after that the miura is faster in long lines. The problem with those drifting drivers is they have to use the exact same racing line to take the corners as fast as possible only for trying to follow me but that is not fast enough for the miura. Plus with all the cars everywhere on the track they it walls when they are not starting in the first row.

If you see a Canadian with a shiny yellow miura doing 1:10. It.s me ;)

I finally managed to get onto the Roma match last night in an M3 GTR and came up against an Elise and 6 Miuras. Came 2nd in my first race (to a Miura surprisingly...) and promptly got hate mail off the badly driven Miuras behind me. One player even told me to go back to Morocco to play Mario Kart. Kids huh?

I love the last couple of corners on Roma reverse but the other four fifths of the track are yawn inducing. I was bored after 2 races. Why they didn't go with CS/SH I've no idea.:yuck:

Just tried the Miura prototype, @SW__10 tune from a 500pp seasonal time trial around Eiger Norwand. (Same track as the recent rally car time trial but dry.)

First try with it, got a front row start and clear run around first turn. 1m17s first lap, 1m12s second lap, 1m11.5 final lap.

Easy drive, tonnes of traction and agile too. Mopped the floor with a GSX-R while hardly even trying. I can well believe 1m10s are possible with this OP vehicle. Cr.20,000,000 will only take ~40 wins to earn back with 200% bonus.

Don't know if someone else notice the Roma match, sometime SRF is on and sometime off???

Was wondering why my car was slower when I exit corners, was thinking my engine is getting older.
Now I have the answer, SRF. Go figure!!

BTW BenMillard, the British Lightweight-Special Stage Route 5 with 200% bonus give you over a 1,000,000
Using the McLaren MP4 is an easy win ;)

The GSX-R is capable of high 1.09s in the right hands. It is more than a match for the Miura. Just saying...:D:cheers:

I've done 100s, if not 1000s of laps at Bathurst and I'm still struggling with turn 3. It compromises my speed all the way up the hill and I reckon I'm losing at least a second because of it.

I thought I would have clicked on that corner by now but it's rarer than rocking horse dung when I get it close to right. I know how I want to go through the corner but my ham fisted throttle control scuppers it. One day I'll get it...maybe.

watch that video over and over again. from 0:51
you turn in to that corner much earlier than you think you should
and don't drift wide on the exit, you maintain middle of the track and keep turning in tight for the next one.
It's easy to drift high to the right and there's just no grip up there.

The last hairpin after the Dipper has to be my favourite. Especially with someone being annoying behind me as I Scandi flick the car going into it and drift round it......

I've given up on the GTR (8:17.5)

Stop drifting and drive it properly.
that corner is the key to your terminal speed.
slow in, fast out
look at how soon those GT3 guys get on the power, it's before the apex, and it's totally blind.

I know how to take the corner but my ham fisted throttle control (DS3 and auto) makes it difficult to follow the exact line I want. I did mention that.

I also said that last hairpin was my favourite. I know how to take it properly and I also know it's a lot of fun drifting it if the person behind thinks racing is a contact sport.

To be honest with you, I'm not one of the "must get quicker" crowd and have bad habits on practically every track. I don't really mind as long as I'm still having fun.

Thanks for the tips though.👍
