Final Quick Match Races 2-7-18

Route 7 is dire. Mindless boredom. Accelerate, brake, accelerate, brake, sprint for the line.

I've seen a pretty good standard of drivers at Mount Panorama though. Pure bliss after the HSR madness, more than 6 corners to go round and a whole 4 laps of them.

I've just talked myself into turning the PS3 back on.

8:23.957 after the second day and I'm finally driving through The Dipper instead of falling through it.

The only good thing about Route 7 is that so far, it seems like half the people cant tune their cars so you seem to have half the grid sitting at 200mph on the straights being overtaken by people who understand final drive ratios.

Otherwise its sheer stupidity.

Also a lot of people who pick inappropriate cars like the Caterham 7 and Xbow.

Daytona is pretty fun, First race 1st place this morning :sly: But come on PD 4 rounds?! 2 or 3 has been enough....

I'd be even happier with 5 laps. Plenty more track time instead of waiting on the next race. Works wonders for getting some consistency going and it gives me 3 chances to beat my lap time...traffic permitting.

You don't get many chances to go for an overall time over at bathurst unless you're in the top 4 grid slots but the challenge of overtaking from a back of the grid placing is seriously addictive. Especially without any contact. So little room to do it on this track and I still haven't won a race from back there but I've had a few 2nd's and 3rd's. Hard work but very satisfying.

I'm hooked.

You did pretty well from what I saw earlier today... but I found the room had quite a bit of lag and it made passing cleanly even trickier. Still, gotta agree with you, it's addictive and I think I'll going back to this one more often than the other choices. I think I can find a few more seconds overall with more practice.

Cheers

I did Daytona a couple times, pretty good. Started me 16th on grid both times even though there were only 10 or 12 in the race lol. I managed a 3rd and 4th but they were distant, I was slow, lots to figure out. Dirty drivers sent me to the grass plenty of times but the shortcutting isn't too bad...

Encountered a new network failure mode though. Race finished and then we were stuck on the race results screen with the cars idling along in the background. I was on my second post race lap when I decided to just turn the game off, no other way to exit. Would have been pretty crappy if I was counting on that money!

Nice job PD, 1 ridiculous event you can use your own car, or three courtesy car events to choose from. Two of these QM's were just done, not long ago.

Oh well, I'll be able to get some other things done with my free time until next month. It'll be rare for me to bother with any of these events, although Daytona is fun, I'd much rather use my own cars.

Yep, I agree, I won't bother playing this garbage and I was just really enjoying, getting good and low good controlled lap times on the other 2 previous QMs with my newer account to see the new QM stuff last night I was very disappointed. I tried the stupid route 7 and Uuuummmmm NO. Guess I'll go click and clack around on the moon lol

Did my first ever QM today at Bathurst! My internet is a bit slow so it was a little laggy, mostly just the shadows and other racers. I finished in 4th. It was a good time!

Yeah whats with the courtesy cars? On a short race I can understand it but if its 3 laps of Daytona, 4 laps of Bathurst which is equivalent to 6 laps of any other race you'd kind of want your own cars.

The Bathurst event is pretty fun if you're good there.
It's a great track, difficult to master, but fun when you get it right! I thought this event was just a copy of the last Bathurst one, but it's different - the last time the Audi R8 was the fastest car, this time it's the Nissan GT-R!

They balance the GT3 courtesy cars pretty well from what I've seen.

I've seen the SLS, GTR and the Corvette all break 8:20 but they all drive differently enough to match a driver's preferred driving style.

I've got used to the SLS now but I'm still stuck on 8:23.5. Practice makes perfect but I think 8:20 will be about my limit unless I get a tow. I think that's the only way I'll get into the high teens.

I look at it like as a replacement to Shuffle races. Only you get to pick your car. I guess.

What I found interesting was all the car choices had weight added. None are as is (all have blue arrows pointing down). And have large PP and HP differences. They could have left the Benz alone, added 10kg to the Nissans, 30kg to the BMW, 40kg to the Audis and 140kg to the Corvette.

Non one?

What/where is the Bathurst event I keep reading about that's seems to be getting compared to Daytona QM? Is that what I'm reading?

Awesome thank you for the clarity. That is a cool track. I stand corrected Kossie sorry I read somebody say that they would prefer it be five lap so I get it now lmy bad

They're always the same with the GT3's. I think it works out quite well on levelling them out but I think the track's playing a bigger roll in this one. Light and nimble for the twisty bits (and maintaining the speed) or plenty of torque for the long straights and the climb up the mountain. I've gone down the middle and use the SLS and I'm having some success with it but I'm not good enough to get the best out of the others unless I change my driving style.

Have you found a car better suited to the track or do you think they're similar enough to be able to choose any of them?

I've only tried the BMW a few times. Won once, then second place to a Corvette then killed on the straight by a GT-R and got second again. BMW has them going down the mountain and late braking in the end but that's it.

Bathurst is fun. I don't mind the loaner car thing at all. I haven't got the time nor inclination to bother with tuning so to jump in and drive suits me. I tried the BMW first but kept getting done on the straights so switched to the Nissan which seems to work well. The standard of driving was ok generally, a bit dirty at times but no idiot wreckers. I hope to bump into some of you guys (not literally) on track.

Yes, driving standard has been OK so far, although I had forgotten how easy it was to get a penalty on the first corner at Bathurst! Had a good few races today, and only one problem with a brake-checker - luckily I had a feeling he was about to do it, and just managed to swerve at the last minute. He went from first to fourth as a result though!

Not seen anything other than the Nissan win yet, and the Schultz one seems to be faster, although I would have thought they should be identical?

I think this is the first touring car quick match where the beemer has a clear disadvantage. I can keep a higher average speed over the other cars on the mountain but I lose it everywhere else. The Corvette is a good alternative but I find it a bit understeery.

I figure with seeing GTR's (both), the Corvette and the SLS in the mid to high teens total time (2:03 laps), they all seem to be equally capable. The people who're getting those times seem to be neglecting the R8 so I don't know how they'll fair. They don't seem to suit a bumpy track from what I've seen though so maybe that's why.

I think the only time I didn't get a penalty was when I started on pole. Honestly sometimes I think if you're not at the front you might just as well let them all go, then try to find your way through the mayhem of crashed and and ghosted out cars at turn 1.

I haven't tried the R8 here yet but from what I remember it's pretty tricky to drive with the stock settings. I would imagine controller users would have a particularly hard time.
