Final Quick Match Races 2-7-18

Finally a pick your own vehicle event! In the first race I connected to (third attempt) the penalty system actually worked well for once. A GSX punted my Ram way off track, losing me about five seconds, but I think the Gixxer got a ten second penalty. Coming to the checkered flag in first, thinking to myself even though the servers have been out for awhile in GT Sport, at least I can play GT6 and dominate in my Ram, apparently not even needing to worry about the inconsistent penalty system...
Then this happened

Why can't I just play a GT game smoothly online, is that too much to ask?

This write will definitely be off topic and I only can hope nobody really minds.
You'll see though that I've got a good reason to post this here ( yes, we already talked about it ).

I had my first two GT Sport sessions. I'm not in a hurry and started off with doing license tests, missions, track experience - I've not been racing online yet in Sport mode ... and there's a good reason for this too.
Driving physics, though still GTish, have changed noticeably imo and what's more, DS4 input is far from good ( you might have read about some of the issues ). So all in all I don't feel confident with my driving, things that have easily worked before are blown ...
I will not enter any OL race as long as I don't feel prepared.

So what am I here for ?
I am missing you. I miss tech talk, exchanging info and experiences with people that I know and trust, who are known for being excellent drivers and racers. Miss the fun too btw.

So, again, it would be great to have a thread for us over in the GT Sport section. If one of you GTPlanet experienced guys has an idea how to start that ... go go go. A bit unsure I am ...

Hope to see you soon on some track, and chat with you here on the GT Sports forum :) !

A big hole, same feeling here... like the lonesome cowboy crossing the desert... or just after seeing one of the last videos of MOPARbarrett5 ... whispering eeh aah ! :guilty:
Thank you RJ, now I feel less lonely

Of what I saw @Mwerte , and @Daduce1947 are working hard on GTS :dopey:

I'd read about slow inputs from the DS4. Is that what you mean? I have to use the highest (7) setting on the DS3 so it sounds like it would cripple my driving.

Is there anything like QM in it yet?

If you want to make a new thread over in the GTS forum, see the "post new thread" button over the page numbers? Click that and away you go.

...and even though you GTSer's are (mostly) living the dream, if you've still got your PS3 set up, the Megane QM is excellent on Tokyo reverse. Use the same set up's as Bathurst and it's a lovely drive. Hard to pass when you're up against decent players but there's 2 or 3 places where you'll be driving on your mirrors. It also seems that running Tokyo in reverse ruins the wall riding shenanigans, judging by the weird crashes I saw last night. I got my total down to 9.6 with a pole position and 3 tidy laps but 8's should be possible. Low 41's for lap time but I had a few drafted high 40's thrown in.

I put the DS3 sense to 7 with the GT5 RB challenges and used that for a long time, reduced it to 5 a year ago.
My DS4 is on 5 too but I sat there many times thinking 'Why doesn't it turn in ? .......... ah ... now ! Too late :irked: !'
The slow input is only one in a long row of weird things though. Some might be for the better in regards of a sim character, but there's many I just don't understand. I remember you talking about the fun to be had in your BMW M3 CSL ... unimaginable atm.

Hey mate, whatever I read or saw, I always thought that's QM on a bigger stage. Ok, there's scheduled races, qualifying, DR and SR and I don't know how this turns out, but if you've enjoyed OL racing against other human drivers, it can't be all wrong ;) !

It's not that I can't find the 'Post New Thread'-button ...
You sure are aware of what a wonderful thread this is here ( it's the people ) - and I want that again 👍 ...

Thanks for trying to pull me into QM again, but you know how a new baby can attract you. Btw GTS is beautifully designed, one guy called it a piece of art, and there's a lot of truth to that.
My PS3 still is set up though ;) ...

It sounds too frustrating at the moment then. I wasn't expecting a radical difference from the physics we have with GT6 so there must be an issue somewhere. Kind of glad I don't have to spend time getting used to how it is now only to relearn it again when it's fixed. Felt weird not pre ordering this time around but it looks like a got lucky for a change.

As for the racing, I'm not sure there's anything there for me yet as it seems to take itself a bit too seriously. Don't get me wrong, I love racing but sanitising all the randomness out of it is a huge departure from the QM's. An old dog, new tricks thing.

Yeah the physics are different and as @ROCKET JOE mentioned, and there are both DS4 and wheel problems atm (same in the early days of both 5 & 6) but, the randomness is still somewhat there. I've only done one race online myself starting 8th and was nudged out of 1st on the final corner to finish .1sec behind in second. In my race, and many others I've watched online, the spread of qualifying times has been huge (10+ seconds on a short lap). The biggest problem for all of us in this thread is that the servers are area specific, so although I haven't raced any of the people here in ages (health issues have been the main cause), I probably never will again. :(

By the sound of it, maybe the game shouldn't have gone gold yet. Weird controllers, weirder match making and no worldwide races. I imagine updates are incoming as it really doesn't look as though it's the full product yet.

Localised servers sounds crap too. Are you supposed to write off two games worth of friends lists and start afresh?

Pretty graphics and sound aside, there's not a whole lot there for us (very) casual players.

Had a run at the new batch, the 458's at Grand Valley East was reasonably entertaining, the Suzuka East event produced some nice races with some of the usual 'nice racing' suspects, both events as usual featured some of the not so nice racers, but after all, it is what it is.

This write will definitely be off topic and I only can hope nobody really minds.

By the time I get to GTS (and I probably will) you guys will be some sort of GTS Sensei(s) but bon voyage to you all, I will probably be doing QM's in GT6 until the servers crumble into dust, or the kids unwrap their PS4 for Christmas

Ran a 8.3 total with a drafted 40.4 lap in the Megane. I need 3 perfect laps for a 7... Torque seems to be the winner over hp too. You can get 50kg/fm with a stage 2 engine in the 15th Anniversary car and I believe it's 47 with stage 3 for the base model. Consistently in the 40's with torque but added parts on the base model (412hp) gives it a better feel in the turns. The Anniversary definitely feels quicker overall though.

05.2 in the 458's but no idea on total. I chose a white car because they're quicker. Not really but there isn't really much to say about a courtesy car race.

No idea who I wrote that for. Posterity maybe?

OMG I can't tell you how proud I was seeing this ... shouted out to my kids "Look at that !!!"
It's hardly a week that I ran a few QMs on that account but it's almost a look at past times, unbelievable :indiff: ...

My uncle John Doe is a casual chess player , neither you nor me nor anyone else here is a casual.
We might never get a FIA invitation to Paris in our lives but we're by no means casual. We've got too much love and enthusiasm for the game,
we've put too much time, work and interest into it 👍 !
I presume you don't retire from virtual racing ( what a big loss this would be on the tracks of this world ), so why not move on now.
There's a couple of good games available, but if it's GT ... then get yourself GT Sport.
You can't turn back time, right ?

I read it. I've been reading this thread a long time before anyone here knew me at all ... and I still do :) ... for grown relationships.

Did a couple of races at Suzuka East, it was OK, 'grueldrivel' (better than the real name  thanks @kilesa4568 ) showed up and oil slicked his way to a couple of soulless victories in a gsx, rest of those gixxer boys, despite being quicker through the esses refused to drive around me and tried going through me every time, got punted into the gravel enough times that helped convince me it was time to leave, managed to get the trusty Dino into the 58's though, but losing up to half a second in the middle sector to those pesky wasp/bike type vehicles, all adds up in a lap that takes less than a minute.
Switched over to the 458's where I had four really nice races with joyce7....
IMG_20171023_102607.jpg

Ran a bunch of 64.xxx with the two of us approaching 10 seconds ahead of the rest. Not sure what advantage the cheaters and losers have in this one at the moment, it seems negligible.

Whether its GT6, GTS, PC, AC DC ABC etc. Keep on trucking guys 👍:gtpflag:

I had a couple of races in a Honda Element I threw a Guestimatune (tm) on and had it around 230 bhp.

You can see from the times the other drivers struggled to stay on the track, the p1 guy was quite fast but resorted to mucking about a bit when faced with such opposition. Ill take it though :dopey:.

I'd love to have seen their faces when I left them at the start:lol:

I've been grandpa driving for the last year and a half and quartered (at least) the amount of time I now play. I'm the boot cleaner to you lot. If I'm honest, I would have dropped GT6 a long time ago if the QM's weren't in it. Interesting (and talented) people I've met in them have been a huge boon.

Going to stick with the QM's for now as surprisingly, there's a lot of people still playing. Seen a couple of familiar names the last few nights but I've seen a lot of new names too. There's still life in the old dog yet.

I'm still doubting on GTS for now. No legacy tracks, no QM's and a limited car and track roster. It's a radical departure from the GT I know and love. I'll (probably) get it eventually but as it is now, I think I'd still be booting up the PS3 for some quick matching.

Hope you don't get me wrong - I'm fully respecting your decision. Just wanted to goad you a bit.
May I ask how much the 'quartered amount of time' is ? Just for my info ( fmi  ) ...

Boot cleaner ... :odd::confused::lol: [ taps finger at forehead ]

Boot cleaner ... :odd::confused::lol: [ taps finger at forehead ]

Maybe boot (British) = Trunk (everyone else)

Or he would at least see the back of your car in a race, unlike some of us.

At the moment the content of GTS seems a little thin, also the QM's seem to have larger grids since the GTS launch, I have been a rooms with +12 cars on the grid regularly in the past week, at some points its as if the quality is down, other times it is surprisingly good.

I guess I've dropped from 2-4 hours a night down to roughly that amount of time over the weekend. I get tempted into more gaming if it's a track I like or a car I like driving but usually, it's just for the driving itself. Journey preferred over destination maybe.

The boot cleaner is about me playing valet to the better players. "Playing second fiddle" may have been a better adage? Looking at it now, it does look a bit cryptic how I wrote it. Sorry.:D

Fingers crossed, I'm hoping my sabbatical from GTS will eventually see it getting a bit more meat on its bones. Once Christmas and a pesky vow renewal that my missus somehow got me to agree to is out of the way, I'll take another look at it.

Seen the same thing at Tokyo. It's a little surreal seeing the numbers go up when a new game comes out.

I'm still popping in here to see what's going on. I miss all you lot and QMs but I'm going to concentrate on GTS for a while. I'm going to finish the missions and then try some on-line racing. There are some worrying aspects, like region-specific races (I'd hate to think I won't be able to race with my friends from other continents) and the lack of random QMs. The solution may be to set-up friends-only lobbies but then there would be no nutters to play with, unless they're invited . The car selection is pretty dull at the moment but I'm hoping that will change with some DLC. I will report back as I make more progress.

Holy moley! I'm back!

Long story short, since around May or so, I had elbow surgery, a major 1,000+ mile move and some upgrade in equipment. My ancient DF Pro is finally retired for a G29 with a wheel stand. Unfortunately, all I have for a seat is a folding chair which is quite uncomfortable and makes for an awkward seating position. As for whether a wheel and pedal set more than ten years newer, does it feel that much better?

Nope! The wheel is no more accurate and oddly enough, I miss my old pedals. Yes, those utterly flimsy pieces of plastic that have the resistance of paper had one thing going for them. I could be quite precise with my gas and brake inputs. I suppose I'll have to adjust to what I have now.

With new equipment and tons of rust, I drove like a newb for a while before diving into the 458 QM. I want to say I had decent enough competition to benchmark against until I started going faster than them. I don't know if a 1:04.3xx is a good lap but I believe I can do better.

I may buy GT Sport around the holidays but for now, it's back to occasional QM's and seeing how fast I go.

try daytona, had beatiful moments with some non-srf, pretty clean guys yesterday there, and the day before. It's hard to connect to servers, but when it did, I got into room with 14 and even 16 players.

there's actually only one place on that track, where people cut, and imho when they cut they actually go just a bit slower if you go at the edge of correct line :) very funny moments because of that.... they make a move, feeling high, and then you surprisingly appear on the right side, oh my god they're shocked :))))

I've been having a few hours on the Suzuka 400pp, dusting off a few oldies. I've been out in a Datsun 510, Honda 1300 Coupe, Isuzu Piazza, Fiat Panda and i did a couple development races in my MiniMarcos.

The Piazza was the pick in the races I did, coming good middle order after the usual motorbikes, RX500s and Elises if they were in the race. The Panda has good acceleration and top speed (much to the surprise of a number of opponents) but I'm still struggling with understeer and I got the Marcos down to 1:03.3 online .

I've also tried a more sensible Elise 96 with an old @NEWDRIVER2 tune from the COTHO days. It works really well, but I can't quite break 1 min online (about 59.3 offine) and can't beat the good Gixxer drivers but had a few good results. I think the 5 speed 'box is slowing it down a bit on the windy uphill though.

I've actually had a handful of good races, but the track gets pretty boring. I've never understood why PD always put slower cars on the short tracks. :dopey:

@8l23ub should give you a challenge in the Ferrari's. I'm sure I read him saying he's running 4's.

The Megane race is pretty cool as well. The car's well suited to the track and there's a decent crowd of new regulars who've got up to speed.

I'm on a mission this weekend to crack the 39's and 07's but I keep opening a gap in 1st and managing the gap instead. Where's @ROCKET JOE and @Mwerte when I need them?:lol:

Yet to try the Meganes but I'll see if I get a chance at it later.

Dawned on me that I could set the office chair low enough for the stand and that has helped. I think I'm okay with the throttle but I'm not warming to the brake. I've often used my big toe to carefully add the amount of brake I want but that's proving to be hard. Already had too many cases of going off track because I don't stomp the pedal and I only have 60% pressure.

Had one person in the Ferrari run 1:03.5xx and lower which I think I could pull off if I had clear track and enough practice. I did sneak into the 03s, though. I wish I knew whether I would've done the same with my old wheel but I want to say that I'm doing well considering how long I've been away.

I suppose if I squint really hard at the driver list, I can pretend yourself and Mwerte are me catching up.💡

They would cause mayhem in the 458's, the 'I've got to win brigade' would be throwing their cars all over the place

I'll keep an eye out although you maybe to quick for me , had 64.2 from the front in a race then crashed 'all on my own' :dunce: , high 64s are regular, one race a guy did 62.9  then 62.5 , again though, the 458 makes me want to drive it, just let the horses run free and it is fantastic, take a couple of hits every race but it doesn't dull my enjoyment of it.
Unlike the 400pp Suzuka event, GSX's don't suck, it's those crash test dummies who use them

Gave the 458's another try, trying to rein in the daftness and see where my lap time was. Got a 4.7 after 3 or 4 races but then got ganged up on for the next few races. Lucky to finish a race without a tourniquet on from then on. Buggers.

Finally got my 07 (.5) with the Megane though and even had 1 lap where I was on for a 39. Risked it all on the last corner for the best run onto the straight, clipped the inside curb too much and scrubbed a load of speed off. A 40.3... At least 4 tenths lost on the last corner.:yuck:

I'm not surprised, you stand out a mile, not using erm . . . 'traction control'
