Are you kidding?
I know this is a little premature, but I was wondering whether people had suggestions for a nice first car?

I did a search but nothing useful came up.:(
It has to be cheap to run and insure, and reasonably good looking. I'm a shallow person, deal with it! :)

That's really all I want from a car. I did have a Nissan Sunny that my dad kept for me to use, but I broke it.

I don't really need much space, and reliablility is not a great issue for me. As long as it runs occasionally, that' sfine with me.

Honda Civic, the same thing I tell everyone. It's cheap to insure, they won't break, they will run forever, they get good mileage, and they aren't horrific looking.

Well there's the obvious Saxo, the possible Fiesta and the Famine-Owned Clio.

There's also things like the Yaris and the Korean cars.

To be honest I've also started looking at what could be a new car. I wouldn't mind a clio or an early C2 but both have some problems. Maybe even a Mitsu Colt though I don't know how well they'll depreciate.

Old Volvo? They're cheap and reliable, and if you want to go faster, you can get a 740 or 240 Turbo.

Plus, I think they're kinda sexy-looking

Honda civic, as was mentioned. It was my first car, and it never had any problems (well, once I had a tube explode and I leaked antifreeze all over the road... but non the less.. it was really old.)

The Honda's nice, but it looks to be a bit dull for me.
Needless to say, I'd still try one.

The Clio is on my list definately, as well as the C2, but maybe too expensive for a first car.
I'd probably get something used, which is why I'm considering the Volvettes. :)

Well all my examples can be found used anyway.

Are there any small volvo that will be cheap and easy to insure?

ExigeExcel
the Famine-Owned Clio.

Oh no - don't you saddle me with that heap of crap. It's my other half's car. I wouldn't **** on a Clio if it were on fire.

Mk"5" (second facelift Mk3) Fiesta is the way to go. Steer clear of the 1.3i and go for the 1.25i if you can.

Heh, go for it! :P
I've been talking to my parents and older friends about the same thing, but most people I know were given or sold "hand-me-downs" that were owned in the family. Like my dad getting his father's Corvair and my mom getting her dad's Nova.

I myself am looking for something cheap but something I can work on and eventually upgrade. I might even consider a Honda, as much as I don't want to, for the reliability and fuel efficiency.

Good luck finding something good, though.

You should get a Corvair!

(That's not a deathwish, I'm one of few people who like Corvairs :dopey: )

Ultrabeat, you could attempt to be as cool as Famine and get an MX3...

I hope you aren't suggesting that!

I've seen the rare CLK-DTM only once, of course, in Monte Carlo, but a car that rare will knock you into insurance debt fast.

My advice would be a Civic or Accord, though the Accord here in the states is one of the most stolen vehicles...but that's in the states.

I bought my first car today (yesterday if you are picky), a Ford Fiesta 1.1 LX, N reg (1996 I think), 74,000 miles, in a dark metallic grey (almost black). It was up for £795, got it for £700. Its a really clean car, seems to be perfect, engine was dry as a bone, so no leaks! The insurance was just over £1400 though, ridiculous amount of money. I will take some pictures tomorrow

Something from Nissan, Subaru, or Toyota will take a beating and last forever...and frankly with respect to Blazin' be 1000% better than any Honda. :sly:

It was a double meaning, you do kind of own it and you did 'own' (pwn etc) it.

I might get a cityrover just to give people a reason to laugh on the many rainy days in Wales.

Great!

I'll get a Rover Streetwise and together we'll have the whole northern hemisphere chuckling.

Is that the Mazda Eunos bubble hatchy thing? If it is, nothing wrong with them, I had one as my fist car. Same size as your Civic, but for some strange reason, Mazda decided a 1.8 V6 would be the way to go. Torquey thing, and it had bloody fantastic steering...way sharper than the Legacy. But the v6+FWD combo made it quite interesting trying to get it off the line in the wet...

get something like a civic, reliable as hell and, for what they are, quite nippy too.

Only problem is that Famine said that there is a Premium on MX3s.

Ford or a Frenchy are the way to go in the UK. And I know that Danny loves the Renault designs :D

Uh-huh!

Very uh-huh!
I'd probably go for a Clio, if I were to make a choice right now.

Solution: Toyo Proxes T1-R.

Something few owners ever realise - and then go "Ohhhhh, right. That kinda makes sense" - is that the MX-3 (yes - AutoZam AZ-1 or Eunos Presso) has passive rear wheel steering.

But ultrabeat won't get insured on the V6 in the UK. The 1.6/1.6 auto would be a different kettle of fish, but still quite expensive for a not-very-quick car.

And plus, they don't appeal to me...
The Xsara on the other hand...

That's because you're an alien.

By the way: Clio = NO. Read my review.

I read your review, and I'm pretty sure I replied that I disagreed/didn't care/didn't understand. Delete as applicable :)

It's bobbins.

If you're in that sector, get something else. Anything else.

Surely it's not that bad.

But if you're adamant, I'll sway my judgement.

How about a Daihatsu Cuore?

Sure. Or you could buy a Black & Decker 12v Cordless Powerdrill - more power, more torque, more acceleration and the added advantage that you really CAN place it to your temple, as opposed to driving the Cuore when you'd just WISH you could.

Mk5 Fiesta or a Yaris.
