First Impressions

I whole heartily disagree with you sir. No way this thing plays like Prologue, and I have A LOT of time playing Prologue.

Fair enough. Slight physics changes mean nothing to me, I played GT5p in all 3 'specs'.
The "magic" grass (and now kerb) traction control is just one of the many obvious
prologue influences here. Based on menu structure, I'd say we'll get the PP system too.

You might be happy with GT5p track/car/physics addon, I am not.
I just keep telling myself, "It's just a demo".

I will say that I did play Prologue for a bit last night, and it wasn't hard at all to switch back to those physics. So the difference is not as big as it seems.

My first impression of the 2010 GT Academy demo was a dissapointing one. It looks good (although in my opinion the shiny-ness of the cars paintjob is a bit to much...) but the handling/physics of the demo aren't my thing.

But then Again, I loved GT4 already more than GT5p physic-wise... And this demo seems just another step down to me :( (At this moment I'm hoping it's just the 370Z that drives horrible instead of it being the game)

Oh and the grass does seems way to slippery to me to, what's up with that?

Physic modes, tyres and assists will be fully configurable in full GT, don't worry.

I'm a little late to the party.

I didn't have time to make a full comparisson but my "First Impressions" are:

Car now feels like it has more weight.

But where is the rollover? Does this mean there will be no rollover in the final game?

Where is the damage?

Tires don't have this rubber feel that I get from Shift and Forza. And tire sounds are still lacking.

None of the things that I felt most needed to be fixed are there:
1. Rollover
2. Damage
3. Tire feel and sound
3. Engine sounds

In the final game will there be any telemetry? Tire pressure, temperature, and wear?

I was expecting the demo to be a taste of the full game including damage and rollover and full tire model. Were my expectations wrong?

Yeah, the demo's purpose was really just to showcase GT5's new physics and recruiting new GT Academy drivers. I don't think it's even showcasing the visuals.

Compaired to previously released photos of the game these visuals are not even close.

First post btw.

Ok you lot, I don't really know what is the matter with you all.

I had to put up with a twelve year old beating me silly in Tekken just to do half an hour of GT5:TT. He even laughed at me!

Don't you ever make me do this again, my vengeance will descend on you like a hammer!

So, my own first impression:

This demo is all about discipline. Full stop. Get the bloody corner entry speeds right, learn to work with the track, you'll manage to put in a clean lap. Clean first, fast second.

The controller is ok-ish, the graphics are (720p, 24 inch LG) really executed to a very high standard because they work tremendously well on an almost subconscious level. All those little bumps and chassis movements - all there. Track is exciting, apart from it being dull and not that technical, you can really work with it.

I didn't come to terms with the tuned version yet, but the stock bugger feels bang on.

Mess around, drive dirty, off you go.

My verdict: great fun, very well done. The philosophy suits me 100%. I don't want to wrestle the car, I'll do my drifting in PGR thank you very much.

Really, have you lost your sense for fun and utter enjoyment? The replays are just so marvellous I could have watched them all night long.

I'm just an inch away from getting a PS3 tomorrow just for this demo. I'll have to have a good nights sleep over that.

Rollover could be in it, but there's nowhere you could roll on that track.
Damage isn't required for this demo, and it's still being worked on.
Tire pressure and all that are forms of damage.
Engine sounds are fine.

The whole game is still being worked on... there is no shortness of people reminding us that this is not represntative of the final product... damage was already shown in unfinished forms at some demos... doesn't seem a major reason for it not being here...

Yeah but parts of it are worth showing off, parts aren't. The damage isn't at all required for what this demo is intended to be, a time trial challenge. The physics were.

I'm in love with the demo. The physics and sounds are on a whole new level compared to Prologue. The only things I'm kinda worried about are frame rate and loading times. The frame rate is not rock solid, and thats with only one car on the track! :scared:

I think I'm done with the demo for now. Every time I get on I just get frustrated.

I'm just gonna play Prologue for a while.

First impressions with a wheel:

I don't know what to think. Other than I suck.

That happened to me too. Don't worry, you just need to get used to it. You'll only need the barf bags to deal with all the spinning in the first week or so

I can't count the number of times I have spun out so far. It's gotten to the point where I just let go of the steering wheel and let the car do whatever it wants. Now, don't get me wrong, I can't wait for the full game to come out, and I do enjoy the new physics. But being under pressure with this time trial just isn't helping a first time wheel-er.

I've dropped to 15th overall in the standings and I assume I'll drop down into the mid-20's before the thing is all said and done. So be it.

I was shocked by how easy it is to spin out with a wheel at first. It's all about not being able to reach full lock in a split second as you can with the controller. Anyway, practice and soon you will be catching the hear end like a pro. I even managed to drift instead of spinning when I hit the grass once, and I'm not even close to 15th overall!
