Singer and songwriting duo Nico and Vinz have stormed to number one - becoming the first entirely Norwegian act in nearly 30 years to top the UK singles chart.

The last all-Norwegian band to claim the coveted title was boyband A-ha, who spent two weeks in the top spot in 1986 with their single The Sun Always Shines On TV.

Nico and Vinz's single Am I Wrong zoomed 51 places to the peak of the Official Singles Chart.

And the Scandinavian duo were delighted they nabbed the top spot. They told OfficialCharts.com: "Wow! Thanks to all our British fans for making Am I Wrong the number one single.

"Growing up in Oslo, we always dreamed of being at the top of the UK chart, so for this now to be true is completely surreal.

"We are extremely grateful to you for making that happen and can't wait to come and play it for you guys live very soon."

Other chart-topping bands such as Abba and Aqua have included Norwegians, but some of the members hailed from elsewhere.

What a love about the song is that is totally sounds like Sting from 'The Police' days, like it literally fell off one of their albums. Also different from all the other pretty generic stuff in the chart at the moment.

The Nordic countries have been producing some great UK hits for the past 10 years. 👍

It's quite popular in the US, too. Everyone I've been around when it comes on mentions Sting. Even I said that when I first heard it.

Except that the horrifically executed auto-tune has either strangled a good voice, or done a half-arsed job of saving a bad voice. For me it's hard to even focus on the human voice behind the sine wave.

Auto tune is very much in vogue at the moment on the back of the 80's revival we are going through, so even people who can sing well have been processed to give that computerish sound the majority of people expect from a current hit.

Awesome.... but wasn't a hit in the UK because I would have remembered it
