FITT Old Vs. New Hatchback Challenge

Which pair of cars is the best looking of the bunch?

I think dropping the fords is probably for the best, the ST170 is too fast and a lot of us have already got a '13 ST tuned and ready to go from the Ford challenge

I'm not sure if changing the old Mini for a new one is a good idea, I suspect it would end up in the same trouble as the Fords with two modern (virtually identical) cars

I will run some laps later and see what the numbers look like, I might also try the 106 s16 if the Peugeots are off the pace as I remember it being a bit quicker through the bends 👍

No tire increase will help the Life Van, but I'm okay with that. It's a fun(ny) car to tune and drive. Don't drop it. I'll give er all I got! :dopey:
You are a brave man indeed.. Admirable and perhaps a little crazy for going for this car but good on you :)

Cheers for fixing the video. That is some nice driving with a decent time in that car. I can't remember how my lap in that car looked, but I can bet that there was a lot more smoke, and it wasn't as smooth!
Funnily enough, most of my tunes create smoke.. lots and lots of smoke in my hands. I am too impressed that there was no smoke or tyre screaming going on there in his video replay.

Apologies for double post..

I get your point about two new shaped Mini's. I can see where you are coming from but if the 1.3i '98 mini remains, I for one would not feel happy using this car for the competition. I have a feeling I am not the only one who would leave this pair alone based on the slowness of the older car.

My own personal car choices are diminishing quickly here and I may end up tuning something continental european at this rate.

I too really wanted to tune the Minis. I had a 1977 Leyland Clubman so have always like the old ones. It's too bad that the '98 Mini is so uncompetitive.

How much more power would be needed to bring the '98 mini inline or is it nearly maxed out?
I am not logged on to GT6 at the moment but if the 1.3i could have an extra 30-40 BHP, it would be able to take the fight to the other cars. Does that sound about right to the other tuners who have tried this car out already?

I would be cool with a bump of the old Mini. What does 425 PP look like?

The 500 has the same problem as the Mini unfortunately, its a fun little car to chuck around but its just not competitive on this track (Panda '90 perhaps although I'm not sure if thats an upgrade )

I'm looking around the garage but there just aren't many good European options, does anyone know if the Mini Marcos is any faster than the normal one?

Quick time with the Vans (30min) and we all know they will not be the top, but adding PP or tires is up to MCH.

For me tire/pp on the Life will not matter. Adding PP to the Odyssey might give the tubby family mover some entertainment :dopey:
It took 30 min to do a lap? :) I didn't realise it was quite that slow.

I was going to say that 30mins was pretty quick. Does that include loading and unloading of all the kids and the soccer equipment? Don't forget the groceries in the back!
He probably parked up at the bottom on the hill to yellow flag that part of the circuit for qualifying, so noone else could achieve a better time... That would explain it. This in addition to the kids being let loose and picking up groceries on the way round.

The figures seem right. It breaks the 2 minute mark now I am guessing? If so, it may be a contender once again.
No, around the 2:03 mark for me with a FC Trans and a light diff tune, the Focus was the only one that I think I could get under 2mins with the same level of tuning but it would need to be a good lap. I'm going to do some laps in the other cars and compare but the general target is between 2:02-2:04

The Focus ST170 may need some restrictions. It's just oddly fast. We already did a FITT competition using the 2013 Focus ST, so maybe we should drop the Ford's from this competition? 2003 is the newest of the 400 PP cars.
Firstly, if you ban the Ford ST170, that will make the field a bit more even, however, it would be even if you set the PP limit at 375PP? or 380PP. Not sure how you or anyone else taking part feels about that. If these cars are removed, I have lost my backup cars.
I picked the overpowered pair right off the bat, dang I'm good. I haven't tested any other cars but my best time so far is in the 2:03s, so I wasn't sure if the ST170 was that overpowered or not. At least its early enough. ;)

Dropping this pair would really even things up.
This may just be for the best with already using the Focus once and the ST170 being overpowered.

I am obviously not as fast as you. I may be able to scrape a 2.06 but 2.03s. Wow, I am impressed with your skills. I can tell that the car feels better with 440PP but it is up to Hami to decide if this car is given that much of a boost.

On another note, I achieved a 2.00.193 lap time with the ST170 so that car is definitely faster than nearly everything else in the field.

just read last two pages and now i would like to know if the ST170 is banned???
Feeling like i've just tuned a car for no reason....

This is supposed to be fun so everyone chill for one evening and let me make some decisions. If making a change on day one is going to ruffle too many feathers then we can just all tune the Focus' and get on with it.
24-48 hours is more than enough for people to chill and allow this to get sorted out. I for one have not had the opportunity to start tuning so am unaffected. Having more than one group of cars tuned is the goal, so everyone please give Hami some time. It will be more enjoyable for all in the end.

Yes, yes I can, blue fin or yellow tail, skip jack is blah.

I agree with both of these statements. Motor City Hami has my full support. Fun is the key word here! If there are any ruffled feathers here...I would like to point to My user name. I for one am not interested in seeing a rehash of the Ford Focus Challenge at This time. Like I said before Hami, its your sand box. I will be there. Weather we are racing skate boards or Ford pickups backwards!!!

Here I was looking forward to some mini tuning fun little cars to toss around.
As I've not been able to tune I am unaffected as well so I will hold off till the cars finalized.
I would love to see the current line up with adjusted pp levels to allow them to be equal. And if the vans won't hold up maxed out them give them a boost. Might have to full tune them to get it right but would be worth it.
