I myself have always used the Joystick method, have tried the Triggers, and recall that starting with GT1 I had used the X and □...
Just curious to see what the rest of us use....

I'm a GranTurismo's primordial player so i'm for X , square , circle, triangle ...

I can't use the triggers due to an issue on my left hand , I don't have sensibility to some fingers and this forces me to use TCS on many cars in GT7 more than in any other previous GTs (DS2 and DS3 had the sensitive buttons .. this feature was removed in DS4 and DS5 too)

Triggers.

Curious though, how would you left foot brake with the joystick?

I used to use the buttons but for a while now I have used the triggers, it's sooooo much better and since I can use the throttle AND brake at the same time they are far superior to the joystick in my eyes. Only that the joystick for steering is so far in the middle is a small problem for me when driving with a DS Pad. I'm a bit restricted with my left thumb and this makes braking + steering a bit difficult for me.

A. I can modulate acceleration and braking better than any other configuration. Plus, it’s pretty much like using a slot car and radio control car trigger.

I use the joystick because it's what I've been using since GT3-GT4 days.

Plus, I find it hard to adapt to the triggers, because I would have to use 4 fingers atop of the controller (R2+L2 for brake/gas and R1+L1 for shifting) almost all the time.

I use the joystick for throttle/brake, R2+L2 for shifting, L1 to look behind and R1 for DRS/Overtake/Nitro.

I do recognize however that if you do get used to the triggers, it's the more pratical and faster way.

... You don't... :)

So basically, it is a disadvantage, but, left foot braking is not going to give you any significant improvements. It will, at the higher levels, it makes a difference to get that extra tenth or 2, but not more than that and especially at "lower" levels.

Since I've been driving with a steering wheel, I've been driving with both feet, so I brake with my left foot as well. I've NEVER done that in the car because it felt wrong... well, when I'm driving really really fast, I use both feet in the car... then it kind of feels right.

Triggers - standard default controls.

The only thing I changed was to put the wipers on the Triangle button instead of reverse, as you can just shift down to reverse with square.

How the hell are you guys using triggers for both throttle/brake AND shifting?

I started with pressure sensitive X and square and triggers for shifting in the old days, but since they removed pressure sensitivity I swapped. The feedback is so good on PS5, I'm reluctant to go back to the wheel. For shifting I use X for upshift and square for downshift. No need to have 4 fingers in the back.

Also if dual sense gets an attachment like this:

That'd be great.

I wish I could use buttons like the good ol days, but the buttons are digital, unlike the PS2 and PS3s Analog Pressure sensitive buttons.
This means less throttle control in areas which do require it.

I use:
LT = brake
RT = throttle
L1 = handbrake
R1 = boost/nitro
Left stick = steer
(The above are all the same as I use when playing Rocket League, I use my 2nd fingers for the triggers so my 1st fingers are always on the shoulder buttons)
Right stick = MFD
Square/circle = gear shifting

Lack of pressure sensitive analogue face buttons is a huge loss to those of us who used them. Apparently the majority found they felt weird, spongy, and of no benefit. I miss them all the time. (negcon ftw)

Triggers for throttle control.

I use X and Square to shift up and down respectively.

Still use X and Square for throttle and brake on GT1 through 4 tho

Fair enough! If your driving style suits it, more power to you.
It's not 100% ideal but I got used to it a while ago and it just feels like there's more travel with which to modulate throttle, at least on PS4

Bought Gran Turismo Sport with the PS5 only to train for GT7 and the Triggers, coming from RH Stick waaaaaaay back on GT4.
Was a painful (like real pain gripping the controller differently and mental pain to get new muscle memory), but in the end total worth it, change.

R2/L2 for throttle/brake
R1/L1 for change camera / look back
X for shift up, square for shift down
Circle for handbrake

And that's about it.
In the PS2 Era I used the right stick for throttle/brake with R2/L2 for shifting and in the PS3 Era I switched to the triggers for throttle/brake. Back then I originally used the right stick for shifting, but switched to X/Square for that after some time

Started using the Joystick when it came out back in the day. Always reminded me of old school RC Remotes.
In addition I've also mapped the brake pedal to L2, using it for trail braking and burnouts :) /EDIT: essentially left foot braking.

L2/R2 = Brake/Throttle
L1/R1 = Nitro/Change View
Left/Right Stick = Steering/Look Around
X/Square = Gear Up/Down... Back buttons for both my controllers mapped to X/Square.

Always thought the PS2 controller had the better analogue face buttons, more control than the DS3. Long time ago, could have imagined it.
Used to use the R1/R2 for gears on the DS2, only thing I did with my left hand was steer & occasionally look back with L1, was damn fast with that controller.

Sticks from gt1. Tested the haptics and all on gt7 and after one day went back to the usual setup.

When I use a controller I use triggers. My friend, on the other hand, has ALWAYS used the X and Square buttons since day one in all Turismo games.

I use triggers on a controller these days, but prior to PS4 I used the sticks and prior to purchasing the original Dual Shock on the PSX I used the buttons.

I'm on p4 pro I've always used triggers L2/R2 for brake/throttle, X/O for shift down/up square: change view, triangle: boost

Using anything other than the analog triggers for throttle / brake is simply the wrong answer, unless you have a physical condition preventing you from being effective at them. They are objectively better.

Out of interest and clarification I would like to see the GTS DR total and best qualifying times of those who advocate triggers over stick with such certainty. Can any A+ circa 70k DR top 30-100 qualifying time players say here they use triggers and find it a benefit?

Watching the top 10 replays through the years most of the time they aren't using brake and accelerate at the same time. It's more about gears in GTS and GT7.
