Forcednduckshn's CLEAN, FAST, SPEC RACING LOBBY - "SPA TUESDAY 25TH!"

Great to see your series back up and running Nick 👍
Hopefully I'll catch a race soon :D

Heck ya, look forward to having you!

Here's what you stumbled upon the other day:
https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showthread.php?t=222236

It's not GTP_ exclusive (although that lobby was 13 deep, all w/ GTP_ tags), so feel free to check it out.

That sounds wicked cool. I'll definitely do some races with you guys!

A real race car driver eh?
Why am I not surprised :sly:

Haha! Autocross, Carting, Just started Time Attack/Time Trial. It's fun :)

Would be nice to get paid to do it... ;)

Amen to that 👍

See you online.
** We are going to run a Spa race for the series a week after NA gets the track.. I'll keep you in the loop.

Good stuff Nick 👍 I assume you still have the S2k? Funny thing is, I'm about to sell my E46 so I can pick up a S2k myself. I actually went out and sat in one (a 06' AP2) today to reassure myself that I could fit reasonably well (I'm about 6'/185lbs), and fortunately the thing fits me like a glove really. Of course I would like a bit more elbow room against the door, but it's really not bad at all if you keep yours hands on the wheel like your supposed to.

The S2k should be fun as hell though, especially once I start throwing some nice mods at it :sly: It would be great to meet up with you at a time attack or NASA TT sometime in the future!

TTYL, and hopefully I'll join you for some GT5 next week

Thanks Brock!👍

I actually just missed winning the SCCA STR Solo National Championship by .002s in Lincoln this past Sept! Have a look, I made SCCA.com ->> http://www.scca.com/news/index.cfm?cid=46250 :) In a field of 64 drivers I was leading after day one by two tenths, but hit the last cone on the course on day 2 to cone away a nearly .7 s win! Too bad, but it was a blast, and finished 2nd beating 8 former national champions :) Here's a little article on SCCA.com, and that pic is of me in the s2000 I was competing in (which was a borrowed car, first time driving it... haha) Here's the pic:

Actually, I sold the S2K in April, but I want to pick up an s2000 CR model this winter (hehehe) for double use as an autocross and TT car. I love FR like you I guess (though s2000 really has that in-between FR/MR feel to it that is a ton of fun!) Yeah, I'm about 6'0, 215 lbs (lost 10 lbs and going strong!) and I could fit in it no problem. The height of the driver is the big thing. anything over 6'2 i think would be pretty bad. Plus the steering wheel is not adjustable, so that's kind of a downer. Still, I loved the car and daily drove it alot. Not the easiest car to get out of though. And yeah I never had a problem, when you're in the zone and keeping both hands on the wheel, you never run in to issues with elbow room. I did turn the wipers on by accident a number of times in autocross runs though..haha

The s2k is a BLAST when modded. 12k/10k rates are a good start, and get a VAFC or some other tuning equipment to lower the VTEC engagement point (a huge deal on the AP1's especially.) They are absolute monsters to drive both on the autocross and track layouts. Good luck and let me know how I could help out in your evaluation process if you find one that you like!!

Get your ass online next tuesday for Spa!!! haha:)👍

Wowww...congrats on the accomplishment man! That is truly something to be very proud of, although I'm sure missing out on the Championship by the slimmest of margins has to be somewhat bittersweet, especially for the competitor in you :ill:

Edit: What the heck is up with you getting shafted by the slimmest of margins??? First it was missing out on the semi's of GT Academy by the most miniscule amount, simply because you got stuck in the fastest region...now you lose out on a auto-x Championship because of some quite uncommon mistake (at least I'd imagine it is for you). WTF!!!!

Btw, are you still gonna persue auto-x'ing still or have you moved onto the roadcourse for good?

Thanks for the advice. Regarding the VAFC, I think I will be doing a set of the BC stage 2 N/A cams pretty much right off the bat. For the money the gains are pretty damn impressive (like 15rwhp without any tuning...with significant TQ gains in the mid range). I'm not sure if I will bother with the VAFC though, as I'd like to get the OBX individual throttle bodies (supringly they're only like $700 or so ) which would entail the use of the AEM EMS (maybe I could find a used one for cheap) and a custom dyno tune. Those two mods would really transform the characteristics of the motor and make the response razor sharp, with an incredibly captivating soundtrack and driving experience :dopey:  Ok, I'll quit pervin now lmao

I have nothing to add other than I'd give my left ball for an S2K.

That is all.

Oh yeah; S2K's are how Mazda should have built the Miata. :)

Thanks Brock! I am proud of it, but more-over, just happy to prove to myself that I can run with, and outpace the very best in the SCCA when I drive to my potential. Regarding it being bittersweet, it absolutely is. Even worse, I held the lead until the very LAST run on day 2. It was rough, but I know what happened; I took a slower car to a .6xx victory, a car that I have never driven before, and a car that was making a lot less power, minus hitting the last cone on course, with no time gained at all, just a momentary lapse in concentration.

Still, taking a bad beat at Solo Nationals, and the whole debacle with the GT Academy has made me stronger. It has completely lit a fire under my ass to work even harder to improve and get better, and I have been tremendously succesful in doing that. My pace in GT5 is extremely quick right now, to the point where I am able to run with, and outpace with some regularity the very best in the U.S. I am no GTP Time Attack, :) but I am now at the point where If I am off the leading pace at any track, it is not more than .5, and it is either because I am making mistakes, or not taking a proper line through a corner. I am then able to analyze it, fix my line and technique in each corner to get back to meet or exceed the ultimate pace. It's knowing the secrets of the GT5 physics engine, how to feel where the grip is and "how to drive in GT5" that I was not yet an expert at in the GT Academy. I know that if I was as fast then as I am now in GT5, I would have surely made it through to Orlando in any region. But, it wasn't meant to be, and I think everything happens for a reason. Another year of practice in the simulator and real-world, and at 29 years old, I have reached a new level in my driving IRL and in the simulator, to the point where I think I could have a legitimate chance at winning in Silverstone, if I ever made it. I could not say this about myself last year. 👍

Anyway, yes, I plan on doing autocross, but mixing in TT's through the year. I want to take a Solo national championship next year in a car that I will build and drive all year, while improving my TT/Track experience. Would love to do a TT with you some time! Of course, the wallet is still the biggest factor, and the bang-for-buck experience of Autocross is tough to beat.

Well for sure, rock the AEM EMS if possible! I was thinking about budget power, lol :). The car will be a monster with that setup, 250whp on the right tune, if not more. The sound would produce multiple ear-gasms. :)

I agree the S2000 is a great car. I just wish it was 5-600lbs lighter like it should have been.

Agreed. But, the chassis is very rigid, and safe so I like that for a street car. Race car? They can get under 2600lbs pretty easily, Sub 2400 lbs with a little more work. A 2000lb s2000 would be epic :)👍

Hell yeah. Imagine if Lotus built it? Would be rigid as anything and 1900lbs LOL.

I'll have to catch up with you in one of your lobbies soon; I'm looking forward to some good runs.

Good fun last night guys - I'm quite fast at Spa already, but Pierre was laying it DOWN last night there, HTrio as well. I was just as fast everywhere else (I'm always good and finding the right line in tighter technical sections), but your line and speed through Eau Rouge and the right hander (Turn 9/Turn 10 complex) was perfection. No surprise, these corners are probably the most critical to ultimate lap time since they are high speed, but more importantly, have long acceleration zones after them (like 5-7 seconds) so any mistake or exit speed is magnified. The line through Eau Rouge especially is a little weird, since it is off of the rubbered line at entry. It doesn't seem right, but I'll have to practice and force myself to place the car there at entry. This is one of the "simulator specific" things that I think you need to beat in to your brain. The T9/T10 complex is a decreasing radius right hander that is tremendously difficult to nail, but when mastered, is worth .5 in exit speed, the same if not more for Eau Rouge.

And the cart track race, a BLAST! hahah! :)

The only thing I have to say that I am dissapointed with is PD's ongoing failure to implement proper penalties for running wide off course at Spa. They got Eau Rouge right, but nothing else. In particular, a lot of drivers (both the fast guys and mid packers) were intentionally running wide to drivers right, outside and over the rumble strips in the last wicked high speed left hander hander before the chicance. This is easily worth 5-10mph of exit speed depending on the car and tires.

There is no way to police it, so I may end up just telling people it's ok to run wide there. It's a shame, as it turns what should be a challenging corner into a much more low risk one. Oh well, I'll take what I can get, I guess.

It is disappointing to hear of people take advantage of that. While it is difficult to enforce other than relying on driver's reports of the violators, I think that allowing a free-for-all on the runoff areas there would be detrimental to the 'real-life' seriousness of your rooms.

That would make me livid. I don't succumb to these tactics. So I usually leave a room with track stretchers.

I feel for you.

Join us Capp Cup guys this week for fun on Spa. Bring a race modded Cappuccino.

I could not make it, lobby was full when I logged on. Well it gave me more time to test the Touring Cars and learn spa, which is in my opinion the hardest track to get right especially La Source and Pouhon corners.

Will try to get online earlier next time to race with you guys . :)

Owens, Garvey,

Yeah, it really stinks. I feel like I'm sort of caught between a rock and hard place with it though, because some great, clean, fast drivers are doing it; I don't want to come across as this nazi and start booting people, but people don't seem to be responding to "warnings." I also just want to focus on my own driving and having fun, with minimal to zero babysitting and without having to drop the hammer on these folks (many of which are my friends and I've had good battles with for a while now.)

I don't know, the jury is still out for me. People should just stop being idiots and keep the car on track. PD should have just made a proper penalty system. And the rest are paying a price for it now if you want a competitive driving experience.

I think maybe what I will end up doing is a warning system. 1 warning, then the 2nd offense is a boot for the night. If you're booted, don't take it personal and you are welcome to come back the next night. Unfortunately, this might mean some wicked fast guys have to sit out if they continue to do it. I can see if you make a mistake and go wide. If that happens, hit the brake and fall back in line to negate any advantage, whether you are out in front or behind. It's all on the honor system.

Like I keep saying, I really don't take this too seriously (really, real life racing is wayy more fun, but I have blast doing GT too :) ). But it's just not fun when others cheat like this. It's like exploiting a glitch in a first person shooter like Call of Duty or Halo.... Though I want to keep the competitive fun factor high, which is why I run penalties.

Another anecdote, I mowed the lawn at Cape Ring in the 2nd round of GT Academy. There I was fighting for a shot at living the dream. This is different; keep it on course. If this fails, then I'll just open "all courses elements" as in-bounds. I don't want to, but if it levels the playing field, like I said earlier "I'll take what I can get."

I'll make a decision before the next lobby. Stay tuned.

Nick

You should see the boundary system at Spa in iRacing. It's the opposite, you can't go wide anywhere without a safety rating hit.

Yeah, 2 wheels off is enough to get a penalty, and to be honest, the track is no fun running wide. It is not one of the most renowned tracks in the world for being easy. It is brutally hard to hit all those corners with such varying speeds perfectly every lap. Going wide not only negates the effort needed to do well, but also the overall design of the track.

Sand traps, we need movable sand traps!

Yep, I agree! I ran two official races there last week and my safety rating took a hit; mostly because I wasn't focused and kept running wide (not on purpose). There is one area that has gator backs, then some curbing, then gravel and they still ding your SR if you get too deep on the curbing. Pretty intense.

The problem is Spa is a commitment track and it temps you to push, then you find yourself out in the Wild West.

Patience Lads....patience. :)

Nick,

I know I was one of those guilty of some pretty sloppy/dirty driving (in terms of keeping things on track) last night at Spa so I just wanted to apologize for that. I'm still rusty as hell and don't have the feeling back yet, so I was bit of a mess to say the least (I only did a handful of laps at Spa prior to the RX7 race also...which didn't help) :dunce:

Anyway, now that I got thoroughly dusted last night by quite a few folks, I'm going to put my head down over the weekend so I can try to return to my prior form (or maybe better). I need to get my speed up for the GT500 Championship I'm racing in anyway. And being that this will probably be my last hurrah with GT5 to, I might as well go out in peak form instead of slowly fading away...I feel a bit like Schumacher in this moment (it's either do or die)

No worries Brock! You're a guy that will lead by example so I'm glad you posted, thanks for that. And I'm sure you will get right back up to speed VERY quickly! And stop saying you're going to retire, stay on if no other reason than to run my recomended/stock tuning championship :)

I myself even started running the last corner wide towards the end of the run. I was practicing with it last night; I really don't want to open that corner up but I think it may be inevitable. I am going to experiment with strong penalty on it tomorrow (likely won't be on it tonight.) If the strong penalty cures it, I'll use that setting for Spa.

TOTALLY agreed on the sandtraps. It would cure every problem!

I'm up to date on DLC and 2.01 plus my iRacing subscription runs out next Tuesday, so you'll be seeing a lot of my in your lounge until Christmas. :)

Some of the 2.01 settings help manage the lounge too. I'm looking forward to it!

I went off a couple of times, but I try not to sometimes it just happens :(.
Setting penalty to strong won't help, FAK always puts on stong it just doubles the time from 5 to 10 seconds.
Also Eau Rouge is doubtable for me, specially because I come from a WRS background. In WRS red and white rumble is clean, but ingame its dirty in that particular corner, Brock knows this :P. Its a bit annoying, but putting penalties off isn't a real option either I guess. Although I would prefer it :).

I won't be back till probably next tuesday btw :(.

 Yea, I was beggining to hate Eau Rouge, especialy being that I didn't really know the in's and out's of the penalty system beforehand...and just how ridiculously strict it was :dunce: My race fell apart basically within 25 seconds of the start, as I had gotten a nice run on Trio and Forced going through Eau Rouge, but ended up carrying a bit too much and had to suddenly swerve to avoid contact. Then of course I got the bs penalty for trying to avoid a collision, which completely ruined my race.

Oh well, I deserved it considering how unprepared and sloppy I was
