Disagree entirely. Given the old car had an infotainment screen about half the size of an iPhone mounted a foot into the dashboard, a big, up-front screen is a massive improvement.

The flat-bottomed steering wheel on the other hand is completely daft.
Improvement over the old, I agree. The old one is unresponsive and difficult to reach, and without nav in the car, it's almost completely useless. My point really is that screens in any shape or form are pointless, especially when they also include buttons on the dash and steering wheel to perform the same tasks as the touch screen.

Personally, I wish I could have gotten the car without the screen at all is what I mean.

I don't really mind that sort of thing. Touchscreens are far easier and more intuitive to use when you're parked, for instance, and buttons are better once on the move.

I certainly hope that isn't the case. The Fiesta ST seemingly hasn't been a huge success up here — I probably see more Focus STs — but the lower trims are reasonably common. That sector is a big market, it'd be a shame for Ford to abandon it in favour of one of its most unfortunate-looking models (even if I realize that tiny-CUVs are big business now too).

It's not really as large as you think. Ford sold 4x more Focuses last year, 3x more Edges, 5x more Explorers, and 6x more Escapes in the US last year. Hell Ford sold almost as many C-Maxes. Like it or not "crossovers" are the future.

Yeah, I suppose it hasn't been confirmed yet, but I dunno. I'm not sure how well the last ST even did in the U.S., because how often do you even see them on the road? I've seen maybe 2 or 3 ever other than my own.

I think they've sold somewhere in the 15k range so far

I assume @GTboyz meant a hatchback with an extra door per side. But nope, the 5-door variant will be entering other markets. In fact, the 2017MY Fiesta ST can be specified with 5-doors in the UK now.

Yes, far too late for me who is having to change his car sooner than expected. I'd have loved one.

and thus, I HATE the future. I want the Fiesta, not the crummy Ecosport!

IMO the aesthetics looks .... average.

Slap some DS3-esque wheels on it, stick a generic rear tail light cluster on it and add some LEDs up front.

Lazy.

Not digging the idea of a 3-cyl ST. That engine is literally a lunchbox with 3 thermoses and a hairdryer inside.

Ford may discontinue the Fiesta for the American market after 2017:

Watch gas prices go up (which they should, I would be happy to pay more tax to fix our crappy roads) and all these manufactures ditching cars for big vehicles regret their decision.

And they're basing this on the fact they dropped 20k sales in one year on a car that needs a refresh anyway? Give us the new one and I bet the sales go back up.

It's shocking that many Americans refuse to buy small cars and favor SUVs and trucks still. Sad to see the Fiesta go (if it does).

Go big or go home. They'd rather have a lifted diesel truck. 'Merica.

And there might be a saying about "bigger cars are safer" or something...

I was actually really excited about the new Fiesta. It looks miles better inside and out than the previous car. If it doesn't come to the US, that is a real shame.

Wonder, though, if they do keep the Fiesta here will they bother with an ST version? I don't think the previous one did so well sales wise in the U.S.

I could definitely see Ford, if they were to keep the Fiesta in the US, make it a three-model lineup. The standard Fiesta S/SE/Titanium, Fiesta Active, and ST staying on-board, all hatchbacks... No more sedan. Even if it has "only" 50k sales annually, that's still a good number given that the base of the car dates all the way back to 2008. Giving away that many sales to Honda and Toyota just seems like such a bad idea, particularly when we already know the EcoSport won't exactly be all that great of a comparison to the HR-V and C-HR later next year. Small car sales are shrinking, but there are plenty of people who don't want to give up good fuel economy, a good chassis, all available on a car that's sold at a very good price.

Ford Fiesta Facelifted for 2022, Virtual cockpit now available as an option while the ST can now be specified with Mean Green paint options and has 30Nm/22lb-ft more torque than before.

Yeah, it’s just not going to make sense, FOR ME, buying an ICE car at this moment. Just waiting, keeping what I have now and seeing how things look in a few more years.

Just like the starter home, the idea of a low-priced new car is quickly dying.
Which...made sense like a year and a half a go when interest rates were basically zero and everyone had stimulus bucks laying around. The automotive industry always seems to be releasing products 2 years out of step with reality. I'm not sure anyone is going to be moving a lot of cars in a year's time when interest rates for new car loans are above 6% and tons of people are out of work (if those prognosticators are correct anyhow). Everyone has priced in the party but not the withdrawal to come.

Ford confirms the death of the Fiesta after 2023, and it's successor will be an electric Puma CUV.

It's frustrating how keen manufacturers are on flat-out discontinuing small, affordable cars. The Fiesta, even in spite of the CUV boom, is still a very strong selling car and the the sixth best selling car in the UK as of last year. I guess high sales = profit margins.

Ford Fiesta is now officially dead as planned from last year

The final Ford Fiesta will roll off the production line on 7 July following the company's decision late last year to axe the popular supermini, Autocar can reveal.

It brings 47 years and eight generations of the Fiesta to an end.

The final two Fiestas will remain with Ford. One will join the firm’s international heritage fleet, based at the Cologne, Germany, plant where the model was produced, and the other is bound for the UK heritage fleet.

I think I’d rather have a Puma anyway, especially in Ohio where it snows and I prefer AWD on a daily driver.

The only Puma with AWD isn't what I'd call a daily driver.

I've not seen many with the 2022 facelift but the Fiesta is still a relatively strong seller here, only beaten by the Corsa in the supermini segment this year. The Puma just about tops the pile though and with the Fiesta's demise I can see a higher percentage of current owners opting for the slightly taller/roomier sibling.
