Really does look a little subdued compared to the previous gen. I do kind of like the more boy-racer look of the last gen.

I do not like that tablet thing on the dash and they seemed to have added a bunch more controls and buttons. The previous car was super basic compared to this. Not that that's a bad thing, just an observation. Except that screen, that's a bad thing.

It definitely looks a lot more tame than the last ST. The front is miles better than the old, but the rear is worse if you ask me. Wings tend to look silly on hatches, but the previous gen pulled it off, this one they made it smaller and less aggressive looking. (not that a Fiesta is very aggressive to begin with )

I like it, and I really like the wheels.

I'm curious about the new engine, too. Since modern four-cylinder turbos all tend to sound the same — largely unimpressive — a triple might be a move up. I like that Ford isn't chasing outright power either: engine stats look just about identical to the outgoing model, and if it's lighter, it should still move the game on in terms of performance.

Ford's promo video had the snortle and pop that makes losing a cylinder entirely worth it. Here's hoping the potential weight loss off the front sharpens handling even further.

Speaking of, hopefully we don't get an actual four-door. The sedan had some of the worst proportions since the Echo.

I would assume the US is only getting the 4-door. (5-door?)

I assume @GTboyz meant a hatchback with an extra door per side. But nope, the 5-door variant will be entering other markets. In fact, the 2017MY Fiesta ST can be specified with 5-doors in the UK now.

I always hear 4-door hatchbacks referred to as 5-door, and 2-door hatchbacks as 3-door. Continent to continent confusion I guess.

I really like the way this car is shaping up to be, just not in the literal sense. I hate how the back has started to remind me of the C-Max too. Blegh.

Looks about 6 million times better than the previous, overly-fussy-and-yet-somehow-still-generic-as-hell model. 3 Cylinder turbo sounds nice and rorty too. Might have to give one of these a spin. Might be a nice replacement for my tepidly-powered Mazda 2....

I've heard we aren't getting the new Fiesta in the US.

All hail EcoSport!
Yeah, I suppose it hasn't been confirmed yet, but I dunno. I'm not sure how well the last ST even did in the U.S., because how often do you even see them on the road? I've seen maybe 2 or 3 ever other than my own.

Honestly, I've seen plenty of Fiesta STs in the area that I live in. I usually see at least 5 Fiesta STs within a week, I honestly see them just about as much as a VW Golf GTI or Focus ST.

Disagree entirely. Given the old car had an infotainment screen about half the size of an iPhone mounted a foot into the dashboard, a big, up-front screen is a massive improvement.

The flat-bottomed steering wheel on the other hand is completely daft.

I certainly hope that isn't the case. The Fiesta ST seemingly hasn't been a huge success up here — I probably see more Focus STs — but the lower trims are reasonably common. That sector is a big market, it'd be a shame for Ford to abandon it in favour of one of its most unfortunate-looking models (even if I realize that tiny-CUVs are big business now too).
