The image above provides a glimpse of a large screen in the dashboard.

At least it doesn't look huge. My main worry was how many pounds it would put on.

As a Fiesta owner, this makes me go, "Hey that looks nice."

I don't really think there is all that much that they really need to polish up to make it a continued success. Incremental changes with the interior, ride/handling (I think we could use a touch more sportiness here in the US), and a proper set of gearboxes (6MT and a 6AT with a torque converter) would be a step in the right direction. I'm just surprised its taken Ford this long to bring out a new one.

Well why replace something that's proven to be so successful? It has to be one of the defining small cars of the 21st century. The platform isn't too far off being 10 years old so to have it still dominating the sector with only minor tweaks shows just how good it is.

All Fiesta really needs is a little more space inside, I drive 2 almost daily, a 2015 and a '16, both hatches. Sadly both have the powershift 6 speed. Normal driving the car is a delight imo, adequate power and responsive handling. It is when you ask them to do things you expect of a hatch that the tiny (even for it's segment) interior takes the rose tint off. I love the cars, but my co-workers prefer a 2012 Versa due to the extra room.

It means I always get to drive the better car imo, but if my co-workers represent normal potential buyers...

Kind of related, but the Ford Figo has been reintroduced as the Ka+ in Europe.

The significance of this is that it is only sold with a naturally aspirated 1.2 engine and is only 20mm shorter than the Mk7 Fiesta, so it has pretty much the same amount of interior space. This indicates the Mk8 Fiesta will be more upmarket to distance itself from the Ka+ and the petrol line-up will exclusively consist of 3-cylinder turbo engines (except for performance models), so the 1.25 engine has finally reached the end of the line.

I hope it's priced lower than the KA because as mustafur stated it looks like a developing nations car. The KA itself looks way more upmarket and stylish with much more character.

Starts at £8995.

They're explicitly targeting the Sandero, so I'd say the old KA formula and this are incomparable - the original was aiming to be upmarket, this is definitely more along the lines of cheap & cheerful. From a real world/sales perspective, that's not a bad thing.

I'm wondering how a decently specced up (the base model doesn't skimp on kit) KA+ will line up against a base model Fiesta. There's a chance sales could suffer. Having said that, Vauxhall have the Viva, ADAM and Corsa alongside each other.

FORD Australia can’t see the plus in the Ka+ and consequently has said thanks but no thanks to a local launch for the Indian-built entry-level five-door hatchback.

Instead, the Thai-built Fiesta light hatchback will be as low as it goes for Ford’s local division as it resists the temptation to get involved in the struggling micro-car market in Australia.

Besides, it is having enough trouble selling the Fiesta lately, with sales of the ageing model down 42.8 per cent this year.

Ford Motor Company is in the process of introducing Ka+ in Europe where it is set to replace the Polish-built three-door Ka hatch that shared a platform with the Fiat 500.

Developed by Ford Brazil, the new 1.2-litre Ka+ shares its architecture with the Fiesta and, consequently, is about 266mm longer than the previous Ka.

In Europe and the UK, where it is due to enter showrooms in October, it will be offered as a cheaper and more rudimentary alternative to Fiesta, which is one of the top-selling light cars in that market.

In Australia, however, cheap petrol and discounted cars from the one-size-bigger light-car class have derailed the micro-car class in which the Ka+ would likely be slotted, giving Ford Australia serious misgivings about bothering with that low-end segment.

According to Ford spokesman Martin Gunsberg, the company has no plans to introduce the Ka+ here, as the business case does not stack up.

So far this year, the Australian micro-car segment is running 27.3 per cent behind its sales tally for the same period of last year. And that’s on top of a 32.3 per cent plunge in 2015.

To the end of May, just 3297 micro hatchbacks such as the Mitsubishi Mirage, Holden Spark and Fiat 500 have been sold in Australia, even though the segment has been given a boost by fresh players such as the second-generation Spark and new Kia Picanto.

By contrast, the light-car segment has achieved 37,087 sales, and while that is down 16.2 per cent, it continues to be the second biggest segment in the sedan and hatch passenger-car market in Australia.

Ford’s Fiesta is one of the smaller players in the segment, achieving just 1199 sales so far this year – well behind the Hyundai Accent (6586), Mazda2 (5908), and Toyota Yaris (5174).

Ford has a new Fiesta in the development pipeline in Europe, but it is unlikely to surface in Australia before the second half of next year.

Eh... it might be rare but it's hardly an outstanding colour. Even if it was available I'm not sure I'd choose it over Spirit Blue or Molten Orange, both of which look fantastic on the Fiesta.

I'm more interested in what happened with that green the US market got but doesn't seem to appear on the website any more. That colour also looked great on the car.

Seeing a hint of the previous Mazda 2 in the headlights. Like a merger of the previous Fiesta and it. Not bad, though I'm finding the weird creases around foglights that this shares with most of the BMW line annoying. The frowny face doesn't really help matter either.

No. Don't follow Audi's lead in this regard, Ford.
