I was thinking the other day why don't Ford axe the Taurus and make the Falcon available globally? Thus keeping Australian jobs available and saving some money in the US by not making the Taurus.

In addition to the reasons listed by others, manufacturing in general in Australia is really expensive, and really isn't cost competitive with much of the rest of the world. Add to it being a far flung place, requiring significant shipping and transportation costs to not just ship the completed goods to the rest of world markets, but to ship any needed supplier parts and raw materials to the manufacturing plant in the first place.

Solution move tooling to the US/NA. The aussies will take a job hit but the car will now be at a more competitive price.

Let's hope Ford smartens up that DCT so the car can get up its own driveway.
I wonder if the concept had the transmission from the DP car the engine was sourced from. Also, anyone hear what sounds like an air release when they put it in gear?

Yeah, I'm not sure what the nail gun sound is from. Unless the car has a pneumatic system or air suspension but I don't understand why it would, or why it wouldn't be better muffled. An air shifter seems even less likely.

It could be a prototype body attached to a full on race car, like the Mazda Furai.

Definitely an air shifter.

Odd choice. But possibly lighter/more reliable? If it is, they're probably using it for the active aero as well. Not sure people are going to go for the noise. On a related note, we will be using pneumatics for the active aero/DRS on our FSAE car. The guys designing it ruled out electric operation for some reason. Something about reliability, stability of the servos, I don't know. I think it's probably just easier.

Glad your FSAE team is doing something...unlike mine.

Yep. Im glad I left Subaru and now working with Ford. My DP says Ford will be introducing 22 new models down here. That could mean variants of new cars like this RS, revised Focus ST, New Mondeo sedan/wagon, Mustang GT/EcoBoost, etc. Good times ahead.

Time to see what the ultimate hot Focus will look like... Can't wait to see the final result of this.

Busy times ahead for Ford Australia, eh? But they're also good news by the looks of things, plenty of new models being planned. It could be anything...

Indeed. This year, Ford are releasing the Mustang, new Mondeo and the Everest. Signs posted through the dealership. Can't wait.

The Everest, huh? Never heard of that one before. It's probably some large SUV by the looks of things. It's also good that you will get the Mustang, it should fill the gap left by the death of the Falcon. I know that the Falcon's legacy will be hard to forget in Australia, I understand that much, but at least the Mustang should give you the same thrills.

Well, that answers all my questions. :)👍

I love how the Mustang is on the top of all the other cars, as if Ford AU was saying "Now you can also experience the 'Stang here down under!" This "global" aspect of the new Mustang is my favorite part of it, now many countries can have the pleasure of witnessing a great muscle car such as the new Mustang.

I live in a relatively small town south of Phoenix (about half way between Phoenix and Tucson) and I've already seen 5-6 of the '15 Mustangs roaming around town, which is pretty good odds I think. Selling quite well down here. And as I was on my way to work this morning, a transport truck was dropping a couple more off at the local Ford dealer.

For some reason, I have a feeling that Ford is going to surprise everyone and come out with another Falcon. I mean, I'm most likely wrong and Ford could really be done with the Falcon, but I feel like that could be one of the new performance Fords to come out.

Only if they are going to build it somewhere other than Australia the Factory has already had "orders" for production stop in '16. Companies have to plan this stuff out years in advance due to the sheer logistics of production, outsourcing various parts and transportation/storage to dealers/export.

Well yeah, I figured if Ford would actually hold onto the Falcon, they would build it in the US or somewhere else in North America.

I hope you are right. I would love a Falcon in the US. There is a small market for it look at the 300/Charger/SS sales.

Why would they build the Falcon in North America? They more than likely wouldn't even consider selling it here since there isn't a segment slot of it. Ford already has the mid-size with the Fusion and the full-size with the Taurus.

Very good point. Makes me wonder what has more sales V8 Chargers/300s or Taurus

I hope so too, but I know the possibilities are slim. If it were to stay, if would definitely go up against the Chevy SS & Dodge Charger.

I don't know other than to be a competitor with the Chevrolet SS & Dodge Charger and Ford hasn't had a performance sedan in a while other than the Taurus SHO and the current SHO honestly is not that great in the performance department. Anyway, it was just a feeling a have, nothing more. I'm fully aware that there isn't a real market for the Falcon.

The ATS-V is out there.

It's kind of like the Lotus Carlton. There was no market for it, but they made it.

Ford is making the GT solely to flex their muscles for LeMans. Would be trick for Ford to make a special Falcon Coupe sedan and wagon for racing in sedan series like: Tudor/DTM/GT3/(V12/10/8/6TT/I6TT/4T)Supercars/SuperGT

That's what Australia needs. We need all those 86/brz drivers to trade up to the Mustang. Who knows, Ford USA may have designers here come up with a next generation Falcon.
I'm giving it a couple years for the Mustang's hype to fade, then I may do just that. I'm a big fan of the new look pony car and I have a V8 itch that really needs to be scratched.

I wonder though, when they stop making Falcons, what will Ford do with the V8 Supercars races ?

Edit : oh God that Focus RS teaser got me hyped soo bad. I love the first time the Focus just slides around the corner. Is it AWD though ?

Nice, i can't wait to go to Australia again when the Mustang arrives. I want to see them in person sooo bad.
